  1. Does he have any reasonable friends? Talk to his friends and maybe they can have a word with him. Or tell him he is a problem but stay calm, maybe he will react in a way that seems like he didn't get it or care. But he might have a think about it and change over time. Be open about the problem so you don't have to feel you are talking behind his back, so be able to stand for everything you say. I was making fun of a guys accent one summer, it came as a shock when he told me he was not enjoying the place anymore, I thought he was laughing with me...he wasn't. People can change, they can.
  2. I like long risers for many reasons. If you pull frontrisers you will find it easier to pull from a bit higher up. Basically I just prefer long risers. I think it's good to be able to reach the slider without problem but no reason to have short risers if you ask me. How it effects the flight of the canopy I am not sure though.
  3. It's a "fun" distance. It's hard because it's short enough to still be pushing pretty hard if you want. Try to do negative split(run the last half slightly faster than the first half) this takes some experience and planning but a good way to make you think about what speed you should start at.
  4. To watch HD you need. HD camera, HD lense, HD tv screen. I'm sure DSE has a better answer. Basically just to make the lense wide is not good enough anymore. There need to be some better glass and some better engineering in the lense. Lenses designed for HD will have different quality glass in them too, depending on how much you pay.
  5. Me too been reading this and not wanting to comment too much but I must say this. Someone is picking on a manufacturer, they have to defend themselves, pretty interesting stuff. Maybe the guy is going overboard but then the manufacturer can point that out and most of us can see it happening too so what's the big harm? It's not too healthy for people to blindly buying the "human factor". It might mostly be the human factor(95% was mentioned), so if every factor is improved 95% then instructors will cause much less incidents but the outside factors will also cause less incidents. 100% will never happen we all know that I would say it's impossible. I am sure that Strong and the other big company is working at their best to improve their part of what can be improved. When I did my TI course I saw two men jumping out and creating a sidespin on purpouse to see how you can stop a sidespin if it happens, pretty good evidence that they are not only out to make money but actually is pretty damn pro active to keep things as safe as possible.(This was guys from strong I think). Me myself was thought to always jump good gear, never bad gear. If the tandem gear is not well maintained, checked every 25 jumps and if things that are picked up on the 25 jump checks is not fixed, then i search for a new job. I have seen absolutely shocking examles of bad or not maintained gear and I have seen that guys rather not invest a few bucks on their gear to stop a hazard. those guys deserve a picking on I think because there is just no excuse. Find those guys and drag them to the cross because if one of them teaches a newer jumper to do the same then you have guys who think they are doing their best but actually are a hazard. Actually if you do 25 jump checks you will learn which wear and tear is OK and which needs to be fixed soon or right away and you will save in many ways. I have never regretted not jumping bad gear, I might have made more money but I have my pride intact. I wrote this now to any newer jumpers who jump without doing 25 jumps checks. Keep paperwork of your checks. If you look at the paper after a check it will tell you to jump or not to jump the gear. If the DZ don't do them well you can start? Now is there a youtube clip out there on how to do a 25 jump check? Good start for someone who is not sure what to check.
  6. Am I reading the incident forum or the gear and rigging forum?
  7. I'm using the CX100 and when I use it for Handicam there is a noise when I move the arm. Tried to build up tape around the mic so the glove is not touching the holes for the microphone but still un acceptable noises. This occurs on the ground as well as in the sky. Any ideas?
  8. Yeah seems like the hardware does not do it's job sometimes. Not impressive....at all. I "arch" on the ground before boarding the plane to put stretch on the webbing and sometimes it slips and I have to jiggle the hardwear and webbing to get it to lock. Imagine it happen on a small sportrig! Only had it happen on TM legstraps and latherals this far...
  9. What brand gaffer's tape is suitable for taping cameras? I can choose between Nashua 357 and Parmacel. I did search the forums but couldn't find answer on this question. What's the most common brand?
  10. Opteka Platinum Series 37mm 0.3X HD Ultra Fisheye Lens VS Century Optics .3x Ultra Fisheye Adapter for Digital Video Cameras with 37mm Lens Front Diameter Trying to find a comparison between these two lenses? Is the century really 3 times better, like the price indicates? Talking results on a modern hd tv screen.
  11. Thinking more about the result of the footage. And specifically between the Century and the Opteka. Or if the Opteka holds a good standard.
  12. Any more jumps been done with the Opteka .3 lense? I will buy Opteka or Century but waiting for more info on the forums here on dropzone.com. It will be used for handicam. I just bought the cx100 and want a good lense but if the Opteka is almost or as good as the Century I like to save the money.
  13. I think it will be great for handcam, I will buy one. There is no rec light etc so you need the hypeye D pro. By the way I want to buy a hypeye D pro but need some modifications to it first. Does any one know how to get in contact with the manufacturers?
  14. Just what I need, the Mini, thanks! ( I use Sony) While I'm here, whats the name of the tape that I see many people use for their helmets and cameras. The one that leaves no marks. What market is that tape manufactured for, if I would go out and search for a store that might have it.
  15. I want to build my own recording light. Some HD cameras don't have the light now. Does any one know how to build a simple light. Just a cable with a led light and plug that I can keep plugged in to my camera always and tape the to the camera. No other functions, just the light?
  16. So which lens is good for freefly and/or handicam then?
  17. Take a person with a tandem rig, put person flat on the ground, ask him to cutaway, pull the risers up in an angle like a baglock, watch the result. Might be that it will take some force to release, have not done this test but heard of it. I wasn't there for the making of the 3 rings but looks like they are designed for more vertical use, isn't it even important that the loop that goes through the riser is long enough that the rings get the right angle when under canopy? In the case of a baglock the 3 rings will have to release in a different angle, 90 or so degrees different from most cutaways. That is one reason that the tm might need to help the 3 rings release. Or so I heard. This is not new, just seems like its not been passed on to everyone. If RSL is on right side, then clear left first. I would try to do so anyway. it's hard to see the risers on a tandem baglock. I heard that some instructors looking at the 3 rings itself. My last baglock I could only see that the main was not gone and tried to bang the risers. They came off, like they seem to always do, just have to stay cool. Maybe less mid day changing of underwear if the droug had more drag after collapsing, but sometimes there is a knot on the drouge after exit or some shit like that and if you get a baglock then, you might have to help to release the risers.
  18. I get error99 often on my 350D with a Sigma 15mm. However I never had a mal in freefall because of it. Before i put my helmet on in the plane I activate the camera without taking a photo. If there is no error99 I turn it off again, without taking a photo, very important. When I next turn the camera on again there will be no error99. I take one or two photos before I climb out and if I hold my hand on the lense and can feel camera taking the photo, often I can hear it too. Try to switch your camera on many times without taking a photo. Mine seems only to get error99 when I activate it after it has taken photos. This have saved me from jumping with error99 many times.
  19. Where is good to skydive in October? Looking for a good dropzone to visit around that time.
  20. I had a break March 1st and I did my first hop n pop May 31, that was almost a bit early. I did a few jumps like that and then I did camera fulltime for a few weeks and did my first tandem on June 15th. It does take time to recover and when you get back in to it the muscles in the shoulder can ace a lot and the stronger muscles get over use and the smaller ones keep getting smaller.... I have a bump on the bone and the rig was very uncomfortable the first few jumps but that gets better pretty fast. My doc cleared me before I felt safe to jump though.... If you get stuck I had a very good physio and can fax the gym program I have specific for this problem and specific for getting back to tandems.
  21. Is there a Canon camera that can compete with the CX12?
  22. So you are saying that if I wear thick gloves I should not pull frontriser!!?? Untested...well thats why I posted here to hear from people who have used it. And I have seen it been used , by a great swooper and he is not dead, so maybe it did work.... But could not remember what he used. Happens to be that I have an injured hand and before you tell me to build a train set instead of jumping.. I do not dive that hard that I will impact the ground if I fail on my backrisers(actually that happens) and I just use my breaks instead, I fly conservatively but would be nice to have a grip so that I with my slightly weakened hand can enjoy pulling, pushing back risers to get a few more feet out of my swoop and to stay in tune with my backriser usage before I get 100% and can go a bit harder, especially the cold days when I need thick gloves. And yes I can skydive safely with an injured hand, I can pull all my handles and all that stuff. I do appreciate your concern and dont mean to start an argument now, I just think that its OK to try new things, it doesnt mean I will just take some tape and put it on my risers with no thought behind it.
  23. I want to put tape on my back risers for less slippage risk, better grip and jumping with thick gloves. what to use? Anyone done it, any photos of it. I knew some crew guys who put tape for horse ankles on their front risers...any ideas. Should be long lasting too.
  24. Sorry malfunctioning main of course....! Try to cutaway a malfunctioning tandem main higher than 3000 feet.
