  1. I live in the key west area and routinely drive to Homestead on the weekends. If you coming down for a business trip your best bet is either drive to homestead or just utilize key west for it's assets. A lot of bars and boozing. I highly reccomend Irish Kevins. 2. I live in the key west area, and drive by sugarloaf alot. Your probably not going to get a chance to jump there. I've only seen canopies twice at sugarloaf. Your better off planning on the other aspects of key west...like fishing, diving and drinking! 3. Bennii, was that pic taken from hafnarfjorder? I spent about 2 years in Iceland with the US Navy and I'm pretty sure the city there is Reykjavik but I couldn't tell where the pic was taken from. Normally I only saw the lights like that in the middle of nowhere on Rt 1 towards Akuyeri or Vik. I do miss the party scene there, especially new years, oh the joys. Plus the Vestmann's was a good time during the first week of August. "I've taken the liberty of drafting your confession, you will be given a fair trial and then taken out back and shot."
  4. 3 Way freefly, Broke off at 9K, pulled at 8K. Note to self, rain hurts at 185 MPH!
  5. If I had seen this upon opening I would have chopped it, no doubt in my mind. As for why it happened. The threads don't appear to be stripped. I did get complacent on checking them, it's been some time since I tightened everything down, my fault there. I think the barrel lock might have been spun loose when the container opened and then the snatch force just bent it out. I've switched to slinks now too but I'm definetly gonna keep this metal link around for a reminder.
  6. a side by side of the links.
  7. I officially bcame the luckiest man in the world today thanks to the 1/8th inch of threads on the metal links attaching my lines to my risers. After deploying at about 3500 feet and doing my usual checks I set myself up and had a nice 270 degree turn and swoop. After landing and moving back to the packing area I laid out my gear and noted the metal link on my right front riser was bent out completely and was only holding the lines on by the threads! I missed it in the sky upon opening and then hook turned in! This story could very easily be in the incidents forum so please learn from me and if your jumping metal links make it part of your opening checks to look or feel the links and ensure they are in good condition.
  8. I disagree, having learned at SDSD and moving across the country and going through alot of DZ's along the way I learned how to eat the carrot and set myself up the right way based on that and not just facing west for final. I took Wyat's canopy course and have learned alot from him, Diana and the rest of the instructors there plus a few people here and there on how to set myself up for success. If you don't limit yourself you will be fine. Yes SD is consistent which made it great for learning but it in no way hinders you from learning how to read approaches. I highly reccomend SDSD for learning to jump due to great instructors, nice reliable gear and a solid set of conditions. I got thru AFF in 1 week and had my A in 3 weeks (damn military giving me duty on the weekend) Set aside DZ politics and what occurred in the last few months I'd still say SDSD is a great place to learn to fly and can't wait to return to jump. I will however be stopping by Andy's new place in the desert. Now for the money part to fall into place. 9. I waited about 12 weeks for mine. It sucked waiting the extra time but now that I have it the quality is great. My HC42 fits wonderful and overall I'm really happy with the end product. I ordered it through Miami and he was awesome. He kept me updated on it's progress the entire 12 weeks. If anyone is thinking about ordering from 2K I highly reccomend him. I couldn't have asked for better service. Now I can't wait to hit the DZ and put a few jumps on it. 10. I got Parabatix about a month ago and damn, Wyat and the guys at Team Evolution put together a kick ass movie. It is definetly worth the money and will impress you no matter what level of pilot you are. Hopefully this will get those guys some extra backing and they can put together some more great videos. 11. Thats what I thought too, but alas just because something is in writing doesn't mean everyone reads it, understands it and actually impliments it. My first trip to the DMV I hade my mil ID, Passport and old DL. They said I was 1 point short for ID. The relief act doesn't apply to Drivers lisences like it does apartments or houses etc, it isn't a get out of jail free card, unfortinetly. The relief act is primarily to get people out of leases/long term rents when they have to move on short notice. For an expired DL yes it is still valid but do you really want to try and explain that to some backwoods sheriff that pulled you over for running the one stop sign in his town thats obscured by vegitation while driving on out of state plates, or in this case foriegn plates? It is always better to have an active DL then trying to cover your ass with the relief act, which again might not always work. 12. The NJ DMV is definetly some ID Nazi's. I had just come back from an overseas tour and to re-register my vehicle I had to make about 5 trips total to the DMV because I either didn't have "enough" ID or had to do something that wasn't available at that location anymore. They even told me that my expired NJ Drivers liscence (I had an active one with no picture) was not a valid form of ID. Who'd have thought? The lady also didn't understand that I didn't have a home address (I was staying with my parents but moving to CA a couple days later) that bills went to. "well do you have a gas bill or phone bill or anything to prove you are a NJ resident?" "I just got back from Iceland 2 days ago, I have no home address, no cell phone, no bills at all. All I have is my car, some uniforms and about 3 days worth of civi clothes." "Well I don't know if we can issue a new liscence then." In the end I had to show this lady my military ID, Passport, SS card, military orders and Icelandic vehicle registration and insurance cards. All I wanted was a new drivers lisence and Vehicle registration. I guess I was just asking for to much. Next time I think I'll just roll in say something classy in spanish like "My pigs are not feeling good today" and just go sit in the picture chair. I'll probably have my new lisence in a couple of minutes and be on my way. "I've taken the liberty of drafting your confession, you will be given a fair trial and then taken out back and shot."
  13. How do you like the mini commander? I've got the full size and I love it. Sometimes it is a bitch to carry in a suit or other really formal clothes/uniforms. Also when I can't carry it on my duty belt because of the intimidating look of it. Nevermind the gun, baton and RCA. The knife is going to put me over the top and could be taken away from me. My other knives are a CRKT M-16, pretty well rusted thanks to many nights on patrol in Iceland but still performs great and the blade on my Gerber multi-tool. Now fixed blades I have a SEAL pup by SOG which is great. Not to big but still gets the job done. I had a SPECWAR by timberline but I gave it as a gift to my friend. It was a great knife but just a little to big for anything other then long trips into the wilderness. Great blade tho. 14. Just makes me want to go out and buy one, 12 ga tho. But I won't, I'm saving for either at Rem 700P or a AR-15 with all the trimmings. "I've taken the liberty of drafting your confession, you will be given a fair trial and then taken out back and shot."
  15. Now for some pics. Please notice the Velocity logo in rig2 and it should put this issue to rest. "I've taken the liberty of drafting your confession, you will be given a fair trial and then taken out back and shot."
