  1. You mean the spreadsheet that looks like this, but you can move the frogs? Solution PM'd
  2. I can see that this upsets you, but I can also see (what I think is) Quade's point, and personally I don't think it's a big deal, lemme explain .. .. The methods you suggest she uses can't really be defined as abuse IMO. I don't think the child will be any more traumatised than if, say, a schoolmate took his\her lollipop away, or the parents took it away because it's dinner time. I personally hate being tickled, and as a child it made me instantly angry and I wanted to lash out at anyone who forced me to react in a way I didn't choose to behave right there and then. The point here I think is why she's doing it. The act itself isn't that bad, but doing it to sell (badly-lit IMO) pictures is not quite ethical, but still, no big deal because I doubt she'd end up selling that much. She's getting exposure from controversy, but people will still buy pictures they like looking at, and who likes watching screaming kids? I think it's unkind, but not abusive, and it will die down soon.
  3. I agree, nobody cares about how my mom's doing, but ... should I avoid making Osama jokes, and avoid mentioning words like 'bomb' in my usual joking banter with my buddies, or don't they care about that either? Do you know exactly how the patriot act is being enforced, and what raises red flags? Edited for a grammar error
  4. Are you implying it's an internal US thing, and if US citizens don't like it they can leave? Funny thing about the US's 'domestic' spying programme, the word 'international' is often used when referring to phone calls being monitored, and a lot of internet traffic is routed through US routers even if the origin or destination isn't in the US. This means I am being listened to, and I don't like it one bit.
  5. This really bothers me. Do you realise this is the WorldWideWeb? Have you ever been to any of these places and sat down and spoken to these people about their troubles?

  7. If it's windows, click 'start' then 'run', then type "calc" (without the quotes) and hit enter. If the calculator comes up, click 'view' then 'scientific'.
  8. Do you think separating the genders is a good idea because of: - The nature of the job? or - The fact that it's still male-dominated now? or ..? edited for spelling and to say you answered my question in the post above Move along please, nothing to see here.
  9. I'll take some convincing on your second point - it amounts to simple jealousy, which I find it hard to believe people are willing to die for. I'm not arrogant or knowledgeable enough to say it's defintely not true though. It's a real pity if it's true On your first point "so it meddles there", would it be fair to say that if the US stopped meddling, it wouldn't need nukes as deterrents? It's a simplistic, naive idea, I know, but I believe there's some way for all nukes in the world to be dismantled, which is a good thing. It won't happen in my lifetime, I'm sure, but eventually, if the human race makes it that far ...
  10. I thought about rattling off a few European country's names, and my original example, SA, but I suspect your criteria of 'powerful' is different to mine. So if I concede that point for the sake of the debate, are you saying that the US has enemies all over the world, not just it's neighbours, simply because of it's political\economical power? .. not many people seemed to really hate the UK (a big world power) until they got involved in Bush's Iraq war. However, the US had enough enemies before then. Why? Why did things like 9/11 happen? Childish jealousy? US foreign policy? ... ? I'm not trying to make implied accusations, I'm genuinely curious why, everywhere I go, a large proportion of the people dislike the US government\Americans.
  11. The idea (of voting 'yes' here) is that you would know after his case has been heard in a court.
  12. In my opinion, the reason is "because the US has enemies". At least one other country has had a secret nuclear weapon programme (South Africa), and voluntarily dismantled it. This country co-exists fairly happily with the rest of the world, and therefore doesn't need military deterrents. If all nuclear weapons-enabled countries dismantled their weapons, there would be no problem, but as long as those who have them remain the US's enemy ... the US will most likely keep theirs (as deterrents, or whatever). If the US government wasn't "the enemy" to so many other countries, there would be no need. So, the answer, to me, lies in the answer to why the US has so many enemies. A lot of other powerful countries in our world don't. I hope it doesn't end up like a lot of conflicts in the world: "you guys did x to us, so we retaliated"
  13. I have no problem with doing that as a visitor. Every country has different customs and expectations of visitors - I was curious what the general expectation in the US is. If I visit the US, I will show respect to you and your anthem in your country by keeping quiet, and even standing, if that's what's expected.
  14. Out of interest, would you expect foreigners to stand and take their hats off too? I would expect visitors in my country to keep quiet while my anthem's playing, but stand and put their hand on their heart? ..
  15. Do you mean "dumbing down" perhaps? Sorry, couldn't resist - you left it wide open
  16. "awesome" - it's lost it's real meaning. What do we say now to express when something really does bring about a sense of awe in us? "extreme" - also used for too much, and lost it's meaning. E.g. "extreme sport" extremely what sport? Extremely dangerous? Extremely difficult? Extremely uncommon? I often see skateboarding on the extreme sport channel ... huh? This one is really a collection of words, or phrases, but I'm including it anyway, cos it winds me up. Probably because I'm too lazy to figure it out: rhyming slang - for those of you who don't know what it is, look here or here. Example: "How about a butcher's?" meaning "How about a look?" because "look" rhymes with "butcher's hook". Clever, but silly.
  17. I was gonna guess Cat Stevens ..but he's still alive I think. Can someone put the rest of us non-americans out of our misery and confirm if it's specific to the US, so we don't waste more time on it?
  18. First in SA? Skydive Citrusdal (near Cape Town) has had a swoop pond for years! ... The farmer just didn't realise that's why he built it

  20. I'd probably take it lying down.

  22. I'm with FallinWoman here. A friend's cat was called 'Prozac' due to it's personality. .. or you could go with something with a sound that cats respond to, e.g anything that starts or ends in 'sk' or 'st' or 'x', etc. My late cat Max always recognised his name. Of course being a cat, he seldom actually came when called, but he knew he was being called.
  23. If it's in the life insurance industry, the person interviewing you will probably think that, according to his stats, you are probably more likely to die while in his employ, than someone who collects stamps, which could be detrimental to your chances. 24. What a coincidence, and I feel I have to bring it up as most of the replies have said how gentle they are ... There is a mastiff two doors down, and just five minutes ago, I watched it go for a little girl walking on the pavement. I heard her scream and the dog bark like mad, and got to the window in time to see the dog get chased inside, and her running away. She's now crying in her mother's arms, while a heated discussion is going on with it's owners. I've seen it before with this dog. I don't know why it's so vicious, and maybe it's the exception to the rule, I don't know. ** I have since found out that it's probably an English mastiff - apparently there are different breeds of mastiff with different personality traits. Apologies for my ignorance.
