If you believe they are an asshat; you will nonverbally communicate they are an asshat; they will act like an asshat; confirming your expectations.

Exact w/l of my Safire1. Don't know if you had the line trim mod, cause that makes a big difference. W/O Mod - great swoops and with a little wind, could pop it up on the bottom end to flare. No-wind=no flare. W/Mod - flys like a safire2. However, the safire 1 at one size is the equivalent of a safire2 that is twenty square feet less (i.e., if you're flying a Safire1 189, then the safire2 equivalent is a safire2 169)

Realtors and developers- how much for an easement
nightjumps replied to dbattman's topic in The Bonfire
Some questions: Who will pay for the survey update? Who will reclaim the property back to its original state? Who will ensure and provide you with permits, liability insurance, worker's comp and a Hold Harmless agreement in the event something happens to contractors, you, family, or your property? Will you suffer an opportunity if a potential buyer walks because of that easement? If the sewer pipe breaks in the future, who will be responsible? There is a legal term (escapes me) whereby someone's encroaching on your land for a certain period of time "can" make it their property - how would you be protected from that? My question wouldn't be how much can I make as much as how much could it cost. -

Ya know, I've had to intervene on more than one occasion. One time, the guy pressured his girlfriend so much that she went through the training and everything. We got on the plane and she said, "I'm not going." I said, "Really?" "Yup," its his money and what he doesn't know yet is that I'm breaking up with him tonight. I cracked up, the pilot cracked up and we flew around for awhile on his dime. Too bad I couldn't jump on his dime.

All good questions and conversation. Regarding your comment about... We put different color fisbees in the large field and surround them with a paint circle (one of our DZO's actually bought one of those lane painting things that you stick a can in). You can just use a can of spray paint while someone holds the appropriately measured string in the center of the frisbee whilst the person with the spray can walks in a circle. Oh yeah, flour works too, but the damn rain keeps making pancakes...

How many left handed skydivers are there?
nightjumps replied to adrenalinejunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Whichever hand deploys the pilotchute is right. If the main canopy mals, then the right handle is right, then the handle that's left is right. -
I keep hearing this more and more and am not sure what is making it popular. How is a smaller group tracking along the flight line any different than a larger group tracking along the flight line?

Groza, It's not an organized or dedicated thing that is done in the last 25 jumps of the 200 required to get the "C" license. The requirement is done over the course of all 200 jumps OR one should be able to land within six feet of the target (that's a twelveish foot circle) at least every 8 jumps. About the size of a small room. Most of the DZs here in the US have a big white "X" about 6-10 feet long. Over the course of one's progression, we do things to encourage hitting the "X"... We do fun "Hit & Chug" contests Have mini accuracy contests, etc. On a separate note; if you have folks who are loading a canopy at 1.3 with less than 200 jumps who cannot swoop to a stop within the size of a small room; wouldn't that cause you some concern about the size canopies they are using?

Thank You Skydive Airtight!
nightjumps replied to adrenalinejunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It was a pleasure to meet you. I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to take a tandem from Vietnam who may never have the chance to jump again upon returning to his own country. It made me feel good that I had the chance to provide a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity for someone. Who knows...maybe someday we'll have the opportunity to bridge the boundaries of cultural diplomacy by taking the Iraqi people on a tandem ride. -
Yeah, but they do it fast.

Slotperfect gave you some great advice. If you are going to be at a DZ that is predominately AFF, then utilize those Coach skills to teach as many blocks of the generic portion of the FJC as possible. Spend as much time and jumps as possible preparing for AFF. Perhaps you have someone at your DZ who is an AFF Evaluator or CD that you could practice the Cat C & D dives with one weekend day a month until you're able to go to the AFFCC. Should you find yourself in need of an SL/IAD rating, you can always get that later. Getting the SL/IAD rating, but not being able to maintain a certain level of currency and proficiency is somewhat akin to a skydiver who maintains the minimal level of currency. My advice is to get a rating that you are going to use on a regular basis and not get one just to have it.

Technically, yes. PM sent.

I don't know anything about it, is why I asked. Like you, I've heard about it. Right now, I'm jumping an Eclipse with an Icarus and am loving it. Especially, the primary drogue release on my leg for use in AFP. The handle is about an inch or two from where the student's main ripcord/hackey would be on their rig when they migrate to it.

O.K., I can see that. Is the Firebolt too new to be included in this poll?

No vote. I disagree with the implication of a "Most/Least malfunction prone tandem canopy." It's about, 1) maintenance (from the risers to the top skin), and 2) proper packing (line order, line tension and manufacturer packing recommendations). You don't do those two things and any canopy will be prone to malfunctions.

Should GWB drop Cheney as his running mate?
nightjumps replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
I would love to see Powell on the ticket. Hell, I'd love to the man run for the No. 1 slot. But, he has clearly stated that he is done. A shame that we lost out on such a good opportunity. -
DiverDriver.com Accident section update.
nightjumps replied to diverdriver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Both 2004 are still "Server Busy" this morning. BTW, thanks for a site for the pilots. I refer diverdrivers to your site regularly. Especially, the one who recently said, "If I ever lose an engine on takeoff, I'm just going to do a 180 and land back at the runway." No shit. Ya ever just want to bitch slap someone in advance of them hurting themselves or others? -

I would disagree with this statement. There is a "Tandem Progression Method," (commonly referred to as the Advanced Freefall Program), whereby one does three Tandems, then goes to the FJC, followed by a Cat C or D dive (dropzone specific). Since the Integrated Student Program (ISP) was developed, one can take three Tandems with a TI (which all count towards the "A" license) learn a good body position, how to do turns, track, etc. Then, they can do a Cat C or D (depending on how they did) with either an AFF or Tandem rated USPA Instructor. They can also move to SL, in which case they accelerate thru the levels more quickly AND satisfy the two hopnpop requirement for the "A" license proficiency card. There is no longer any reason to segregate SL, Tandem, or AFF. It's all about categories now and tailoring an individual student's strengths and weaknesses using what ever instructional methodology is available. Let's say you have a student who started out on the AFF instructional methodology and is having trouble with Cat D... Hand them off to a TI and have them do that dive. Let's say you have someone in AFF and they smoke the the freefall dive flow, but are having difficulty with canopy control, you can take them up to 8 or 10K and put them on SL/IAD. Jump out after them and play follow me. You can take a radio and say, Let's do a right rear-riser turn. It all counts towards the "A." Since everyone learns differently, we now have the opportunity and ability to move thru the categories utilizing any instructional methodology over the course of 25 dives to help students achieve some level of success on any category dive. No longer are we restricted to saying; you have to repeat dive "X." We can now say, "Here's what you did right on that dive and here's what we're going to do on the next dive to improve in this category towards your "A" license.

Please expand on your comment of, "biodata/consent form." Understanding of anonymity; which I'm assuming there is no personal data to be included on the form other than male/female, age ranges, etc.? Is this for a thesis or is there are shorter time line? edited to add: I'm not committed, I ask cause I'm willing.

Flipping "Skydiving" and "Community" & membership fee
nightjumps replied to nightjumps's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
1. Wonder if placing the "Skydiving" Header and subthreads on the main forums page first, rather than "Community" and subthreads would prioritize (left to right, top to bottom) the focus of the website on skydiving. 2. With soon to be 30,000 members; how long before you charge $5.00/annum to help support infrastructure and how many members would remain. Even if you lost half...
