I opened low because i wasn't sure i should open in a cloud.

How/why does that make you a safer jumper?
I thought the question was how to wring out the canopy? I can't do a 270 front riser turn to final (and have no intention before anyone shouts at me!) and i wouldn't necessarily be safer if i could but i would have got a lot closer to the limits of my canopy.
Just my opinion.Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Wow - I know it's cool and all, and i'd LOVE to see it done, but WHY!!??
Is there any practical application of this?! Isn't there a sort of maximum performance WL of about 2.5 or something before you start losing swoop distance and performance and stuff?
On the plus side i suppose he doesn't have to shell out for containers any more because he can just put it in his pocket.....Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Sellers in the UK should also be aware that a bankers draft is NOT as good as cash - friend of mine sold a jetski on bankers draft and it came back that the draft was stolen and he lost the lot. wait for it to clear like a normal check.
(Good news though they caught the guy - it wasn't just stolen bankers drafts he was into....)Never try to eat more than you can lift -
This still going ahead this weekend? I can't find the old thread!!Never try to eat more than you can lift -
I don't think so - as far as i remember, the Bends is cause by increased solubility of Nitrogen in the blood at a greater pressure than normal ground pressure. As you never increase the pressure above 1 ATM on a skydive its not an issue.
of course - i may be talking out of my a**e!Never try to eat more than you can lift -
OK, sorting out the lines is fine, getting all the air out is fine, stowing the lines and getting the container closed, no problem. However, getting it in the bag, hmmmm. I know that it is mostly practice, but has anyone got any tips? I have been shown a few different things by different people at the DZ but thought someone on here might have something that might work for me. (and i don't want to psycho pack just because i can't pro pack very well, i want to make that choice when i am competent at both!)
Would like to spend my next weekend jumping rather than rolling around swearing at my canopyNever try to eat more than you can lift -
I think it is important to report good buying experiences as well as bad.... so,
I'd Just like to say in terms of customer service, three people deserve a mention and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend them all:
KellyF - fantastic container in very short time (about a month) and made any changes i asked for with no problems at all and even put up with my pestering,
Skybytch - for sorting the initial order out and giving me loads of advice along the way, and last but definitely not least:
Joannie from Sunshine Factory for going out of her way to help me source a cypres to go in my new rig - don't know if she posts on here but if you know her then say hi from me!
If and when i get out there i owe you all some beers....Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Ta Daaaaaa!!!!!!
....stuffed with clothes of course!!!Never try to eat more than you can lift -
I pick it up tomorrow night, and if i am really lucky fordy can rig it for me on friday so i can jump it at the weekend! (but as you probably know, he has just come back from your neck of the woods so is pretty busy!) Am itching to see it!
Oh, and its been said before, but Kelly has been so helpful and obliging with everything i have asked for and didn't even seem to get annoyed at me pestering him! Much respeck.
Will post pictures as soon as i have them....Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Hmmmm - would Lodi be a good place to hang out for a couple of weeks holiday...??Never try to eat more than you can lift -

I just watched that on Skydivingmovies.com. dumbest thing i ever saw.... shame he isn't posting on the "dumbest thing" thread really, except he would probably say it was all his instructors faultNever try to eat more than you can lift -
thats one hell of a road trip! might be a bit wet by the time i got there!!!! ..... but i appreciate what you're saying!!Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Thanks chuck - that was pretty much my lines of thinking but it does give a whole new light to watching the few hundred jump people coming in on their small stillettos and xfires etc.
I teach kitesurfing and the problem there is that anyone can buy any kite and there is no DZO or S&TA to stop them, hence 3 deaths in the last 6 months so i do appreciate where your coming from.
Going back to my original question though - when you "learnt" to fly your velocity did it take you longer to reach the limits than on your sabre, or did your extra experience by then mean that you got there quicker? (Or are you not there yet?!)
(I'm just very interested in canopy control and wish there were more courses around)Never try to eat more than you can lift -
No i agree - but i was just curious i would imagine that smaller, x-braced, high performance canopies take a lot more time due to the size of the performance envelope.. just my thoughts thats all.
If it takes 2000 jumps to max out any canopy then presumably there aren't many people out there who should be flying anything much smaller than a 150??!Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Not arguing againt your point particularly - its more a question, but would it not be true that it is going to take a lot longer to max out a canopy like yours than it is to max out something more docile and lightly loaded? Kind of like the difference between a van and a formula 1 car?Never try to eat more than you can lift -
he he - i had someone come up to me the other day and say thanks for being the video man - pretty impressive at my 30-odd jumps i thought, especially as i must have been asleep while doing it!!Never try to eat more than you can lift -
Don't worry too much - I learn't to scuba dive about 12 years ago and then gave it up for 10 years because it hurt too much - i just couldn't equalise and all my mates were at the bottom while i was still flailing around 10m above.
Recently i went to the phillipines and had a friend there who was a divemaster - he took me down REALLY slowly and i enjoyed my first scuba dive ever.
Now obviously you don't have the slow option in freefall and i still don't equalise as well as most others can under canopy but i have found the more scuba and freefall i do, the more my eardrums "loosen up" and the better it gets each time. If you are getting infected then maybe that is a slightly different issue but my ears certainly get better the more i do.
Hope this helps

QuoteThe slow-flight characteristics are improved by the eagle trim, the shape of the airfoil, and the trim fm A-B; assuming a constant aspect ratio.
Brian,
what effect does aspect ratio have on a canopy. I am fairly familiar with what it does on kites so i am just assuming that high AR is high performance and low AR is more docile (roughly speaking) I'm also a little curious about the comment about "assuming a constant AR" Isn't AR constant for any given canopy or do you see it as increasing during the flare?
Sorry if these are dumb questions - it just got me thinking...Never try to eat more than you can lift -
I don't know if its the same, but bump n' jump is kitesurfing gear. If you look for some of the other manufacturers like brunotti, da kine and protest, you will find that some of them do hardwearing pants and shorts in quite funky designs which should be quite good and different to anything else on the dropzone.Never try to eat more than you can lift
