  1. I live in Reading as well - if you want to do some FS, there is usually a load going on at weston but not sure what levels they tend to be. The teams i have seen have been pretty experienced. (I also don't know if they have restrictions on civilian jumpers during the week. anyone?) Wish i could go tomorrow, but unfortunately took a couple of days off last week to go jumoping so i can't really get away with any more!!! Never try to eat more than you can lift
  2. me and Kris will be there Caz for a couple at least. Anyone else?? Didn't Craig say he was coming? Never try to eat more than you can lift
  3. This year i have different groups of friends going to Perris, Eloy and Space Centre at Christmas, and i am torn - who would recommend where and why?! thanks Never try to eat more than you can lift
  4. definitely - it does make a difference, a particular container manufacturer got my business partly because of that!!! Never try to eat more than you can lift
  5. Mine did the same as opie's - just read 0.0 all the way up, and it was a solo sitfly jump, out of a fast climbing plane from 13k, so nothing there that should have stopped it working. The audible feature was enabled as well. In the meantime however Lara from alti-2 has PM'd me, so loads of thanks to her for that and i am going to try and sort the problem out. Cheers for all your suggestions everyone. Never try to eat more than you can lift
  6. Here's the problem: Brand new neptune out of the box, new battery, did the setup stuff (logs etc) got on the plane. Took it out of my lid once we had cleared 1000ft to see the aircraft mode and it wasn't registering anything at all - it didn't beep as we went through 1000 on the way up (is it supposed to?) and the audible didn't go off on the way down - and it didn't register a jump in the log at all. I am going to phone my dealer tomorrow but i was just wondering if there was something i needed to turn off/on that i might have missed? Oh, and the display was just showing "ground mode" the whole time. Software version is 2.1.3 Any help greatly appreciated (otherwise it's getting swapped for a protrack ) Never try to eat more than you can lift

  8. Did my first CReW Last week - loved it! Got up to a 4 stack except my coach had a mal on opening and had to chop so i didn't quite get my CF1 sticker. Now i know what everyone is going on about (still think you are all mad though!!!) Never try to eat more than you can lift

  11. No - the people behind me were too busy worrying about me rolling round on the floor swearing and by the time anyone realised, he had gone.... And yes, the rozzers were very annoyed. But thanks - hopefully the swelling will go down quickish. Coulda been a lot worse, he coulda run over my head.... Never try to eat more than you can lift
  12. [rant] There i am on my motorbike, on the way into london, minding my own business, filtering through the traffic, when the van i am going past decides he doesn't like the fact that he is stuck in traffic and i'm not so decides to swing over and block my path. I slam on the brakes but nowhere to go, lose the front and go sliding down the road. Said white van then decides that he hasn't done enough and runs over my foot in his mercedes sprinter. 2 lanes of the A4 are now blocked, and everyone has stopped...... except the van who takes one quick look to check i am alive then drives off. Long story short, quick ambulance ride, X-ray, no broken bones, but a foot that looks like a football and serious invalid tendencies, one knackered motorbike and a very pissed off skydiver (who incidentally had just completed my first proper, stable, sitfly jump about 12 hours previous) So looks like i may have to miss my CReW seminar, and possibly the nationals at the end of july as well. Am a little upset about that! Apart from that life's good! (well it did say this was the forum to "vent your angst"!![\rant] Never try to eat more than you can lift
  13. For a newbie, please explain who is in the wrong place!!! Never try to eat more than you can lift
  14. I voted yes but i think I would be more cafreful if i was selling something tiny and want to see a logbook etc or some other evidence - licenses for example. I teach kitesurfing and recently i wouldn't sell a guy a 16m2 high performance kite because he wanted it to learn on. I personally know 1 person and know of 2 others who have been killed kiting this year. Having said that he then took his business elsewhere and the nxt time i saw him he was being dragged down a beach at about 20 knots Never try to eat more than you can lift
  15. I agree, one of the earliest things i saw in my skydiving career was the cameraman who filmed my AFF1 landing his spectre 170 REALLY fast (and he wasn't that big a guy either) He looked way better than one of the instructors who was on a something-or-other-elliptical 100ish. That kind of stuff does stick in the mind.... Never try to eat more than you can lift
  16. No problem - one other consideration that i heard a friend of mine mention, he jumped a pull out until he started jumping camera and then found that with big camera wings on, it was a bit of a fiddle to get the PC into clean air as it would flop about in the burble of the wing. Bear in mind this is only hearsay on my part though - anyone more experienced care to comment? Never try to eat more than you can lift
  17. Pro's and Cons for both. See here...http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=114198;search_string=throw%20out%20vs;#114198 Hope this helps.
  18. Quick question – I was playing last weekend with rear riser turns and flat toggle turns, which would be “flatter” losing less altitude? The riser turn felt flatter to me but it seems the general advice when you need to make a turn a little too low is to use the method in Bill Von’s article with the toggles. Is this better or is it a speed thing (i.e. the riser turns have a slower rate of rotation so therefore aren’t so useful in an emergency?) Cheers for your advice Never try to eat more than you can lift
  19. COOOOOOOL!!!! Anyone know where i can find a progressive dropzone where i can jump one? Think i have enough jumps yet?!!! Never try to eat more than you can lift

  25. Not necessarily - imagine a low time jumper in teh occasionally cold weather we happen to have here breathing out a bit hard and getting an opaque lens 300 feet up under canopy (or in freefall for that matter) - might not be so switched on, might panic etc......
