Is there still a DZ in Mount Vernon, Wa?
TrophyHusband replied to TrophyHusband's topic in The Bonfire
My dad is getting old and won't go across the bar any more so we go up to area Sekiu. We used to fish in 300 feet of water. People said "fuck that", but when we were the only ones coming back with fish, we started to see other boats. We then started going to 600 feet of water. People said "fuck that", but we were coming back with fish. This year there were a lot of people fishing in 600 feet. For some reason there were a shit load of arrowtooth flounder and skate. I caught a skate that we estimate was around 150 pounds. We normally crab in the Columbia, but my cousin lives in Federal way and invited me up for a day on the boat. It was fun, but it was more about drinking and being on the water than crabbing. If I move out there, you'll take me out for TUNA! right? I'll buy the beer. They still sell Hamm's Lite up there, right? "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -
Beer isn't bed either, unless you drink too much of it. Debt has been thoroughly abused in this country and we need to detox. Unfortunately it will take time. Less debt equals a more solid financial foundation both as individuals and as a country. In both instances less debt makes it far easier to weather the hard times. There is no easy or quick way out of this and trying force it to happen sooner will only prolong things. It would be wonderful if every family had $500 a month extra and they probably would go out and stimulate the economy by buying more stuff, but most of them would unfortunately just increase their debt and the $500 a month would go to a loan or credit card payment. In reality the best things the average family could do with an extra $500 a month is use it to pay off existing debt faster, invest it in either a college fund or retirement, or stick it in a money market account in case their financial situation takes an unexpected turn. I've taken you out of the conversation so as not to make this look like a "pissing match". You're looking to advance the debate here so I'm asking you to advance it by providing some actual numbers to back up your point. How many people are actually upside down and would have at least a couple hundred more dollars in their pocket each month if they could refinance? (Just for the sake of advancing the debate, just find some estimates from a source more reliable than alternet.) "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com

Great than buy! But you buying will not grow the economy nor create many jobs. Yes it will. We will not see a true and solid recovery until the housing market recovers. Someone buying a house now is a step in that direction. It also stimulates the local economy a little because people generally go out and spend a bunch of money right away to either fix up a house to rent, or make it "home". When making such a huge decision such as purchasing a home, you must take into account future unknown circumstances. You may get divorced, injured, layed off or fired, or get a better opportunity somewhere else and need to sell sooner than you expected. There is also no guarantee that your home will be worth as much if one of those things should happen. You must accept the fact that you may get screwed. It may suck and it may not be fair, but it's life. I'm not saying you should not have bought as much house when you did, I'm just saying you should accept what risks are involved. Just like when you jump out of a plane you need to accept that you can get hurt or die, even if you do everything right. It would be very silly for the banks to refinance a home that is worth less that the loan amount. You can't blame them for that. As far as helping the economy, the best thing you can do is put yourself on firmer financial footing. If you had an extra $500 a month and wanted to use it to help the country, put it into a retirement fund so it ca grow and the rest of us won't have to pay for your ass when you get old. For now, you can go to a strict austerity budget and put every extra cent you make towards the principal until the value of the home is more than the amount you owe. At that point your options will open up. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com

No kidding about the regs. This last summer I got clams and oysters from Dosewollips (3 times), halibut from Sekiu, crab from Puget Sound, shad and salmon from the Columbia (28 pounder on 12 pound test line and light rod I put out trying for steelhead, too many fins so he had to go back), Kokanee in Yale Resevoir (south of Mt. St. Helens), and an unsuccessful attempt at trout in Coldwater Lake (north of Mt. St. Helens. I've read through the book dozens of times, but there are still some gray areas. Three years ago I would have asked you if you threw that 20 pound halibut back (we would have), but this year we were happy to get 20 pounders. I used to maintain the gyros on the ferries so I've spent a lot of time riding them around the San Juans, but other than that I haven't spent any time in that area of the state. It really wasn't on our radar until my wife got an email about a job there. This time next year we will almost certainly be out west, we're just not sure where yet. If my wife stays in the Air Force, we'll be getting orders to Alaska. If we decide to get out we'll likely be moving to Washington. The two jobs the we'll really interested are in Mount Vernon and Port Angeles. I'm ready to move back home. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -

USPA shows nothing. Google comes up with a few different DZ names but all at the same air field. DZ.com shows a DZ called Jet City but their website says "coming soon". Can anyone give me the scoop on skydiving there? (Wife is looking at a job there.) "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -

Eliminate the Native American Tax Loophole
TrophyHusband replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
After reading this thread, I still can't tell if what they are doing is "technically" legal, but I would consider it a "loophole". I think that closing loopholes such as this needs to be done, but I would move this one down to the lower end of the priority list. I'm not sure if its white guilt from my European ancestry or bias from my Native American ancestry, but right or wrong, I've got a soft spot for Natives Americans. I'm ok with looking the other way on this until we get a lot of other messes with tax law cleaned up. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -

Simple question for the lawyers here
TrophyHusband replied to TrophyHusband's topic in Speakers Corner
Just to appease you, I'll refrain from asking other peoples' viewpoints before cementing my own opinion in the future. Instead of seeking more information I'll just entrench myself in my beliefs based only on what I currently know. Heaven forbid should someone admit when they have a lack of knowledge in a certain area and ask someone more knowledgeable. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -

The reality is that we DO live in a society where the lawyers "parse the commas". I addressed the lawyers largely because the two that post here most do a pretty good job of explaining these kids of things and they usually are aware of (or know how to quickly find) Supreme Court decisions to the topic. Although the answer may not be simple. Is the budget deficit committee and/or the process that has been designed constitutional? I ask because this committee isn't just coming up with recommendations, what they come up with must be voted up or down without debate. I don't know if my representatives' up or down votes satisfactorily represent me, or if I'm entitled to more representation in the law-writing process. I'm holding back on forming an opinion about this committee and process until I know a little more about it. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -

I would be willing to give up mortgage interest deduction on a first home. (Full disclosure: we currently rent, but have spent 8 years making mortgage payments and plan to buy a home next time we move.) I would also give up Saturday mail delivery. I would also even give up all my social security I've paid in the past and end that program, OR I would be willing to keep paying into it, but them be means tested when I become eligible and just not receive it (or only get a portion depending on income) if I don't need it. There is also a current proposal to change military retirement so my wife and I may actually will have to decide if we're willing to give up some of what was promised to us or if we'll move on to the civilian world. Now to stray a little from the parameters you gave. I'm willing to pay more taxes to pay off our debt IF spending is drastically cut. I look at it like this, let's say that one of my kids gets runs up a bunch of credit card debt and is on the brink of financial disaster. If he refuses to cancel his cable, get rid of his cell phone data plan, trade in his car for something with a much smaller payment, move into a cheaper apartment, and stop hitting the bars 4 nights a week, he's only going to get free advice (and he can come over for dinner whenever he wants, he is my son after all). If on the other hand he truly sees the error of his ways and makes deep cuts to his spending, I'll certainly help him dig out of his fiscal hole. Another thing I would be willing to do is pay more state taxes in return for the federal government stepping out of things. Roads and education being two things I've wanted the feds to leave to the states for a long time. I don't like my money going to the feds to then be allocated back to the states. I would also give up quite a number of our overseas military bases, but that is for another thread. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -
F-250 or F-350 Superduty. Lose the catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter. Add a Spartan tuner and a cold air intake. Run the 275 tune (adds 275 horsepower) for daily driving to give you the best fuel mileage and run the 210 tow tune for pulling. You'll be happy with it and won't have a problem pulling anything. Woman gets jury trial for displaying plastic testicles on truck
TrophyHusband replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Here's the key quote at the center of the issue from the article; Well, damn. I didn't realize that was our standard now. Since "offensive" is such a subjective term, an officer has to have some sort of basis at to what is too offensive for public view. "I wouldn't want my daughter looking at it" seems like a reasonable measure. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com -

I don't find them offensive, but I can see where many people would (for example, I wouldn't have something like that where my grandma could see it). I didn't vote because the idea of banning things just feels weird to me. That said, if I stuck a huge red plastic vagina from my differential, I would expect to get pulled over. Would it be a double standard? Probably, genitals are genitals. It's just that far more people are offended by vaginas than a swinging coin purse. One thing to think about though is this, could you get away with displaying a larger than life model of any other genitalia in public? "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
