  8. it was in the video... ;) and good point! how did this get so sidetracked? Performance is completely subjective, and any conversations directed at comparing performance levels between differing forms of wingsuiting, is just silly. you want to compare performance? go jump with a friend... it truly isnt a dick measuring contest guys... and girls... and, well, others.. I will ask someone who has more time than I do to accomplish this though.. if you really want to talk performance, you actually have to solve the wing loading question in wingsuits. total area of the wingsuit, i would say the best unit of measure would be likely square feet, then take the weight with gear of the person flying the wingsuit... the higher the loading, the faster the suit will fly, when used correctly. Trust me when i say that wing loading has alot to do with total performance capabilities, in any realm of flight. In order to begin to quantify performance data, we need to understand what the information means to individuals. So whoever wants to do this, should do it for a number of wingsuiters at their DZ. we can then begin to figure out what any of this performance data really means... just my 2c.. bring that new suit to zhills butters and well find some puffies... ;) Z Flock #11; Muff #1909; PFI #15, USPA Lifer Commercial Multi-Inst. 9. Sangi~ You may very well be correct, i can only speak to my experience and that is over here in the states, i have yet to make it over to play with cliffs yet, but its coming. 10. Before a jump, I am anal about my hacky location on my BOC, cause, well im a short fat guy. I always make sure that my hacky is tight against the BOC and doesnt flop around, and tuck my pc deep into the boc. I make sure on the ground, and a few times in the plane, that it is as far forward in the boc as possible agains the corner, so it is as close to my back as possible for two reasons. It is out of the airflow, and has less chance to move around, and its easier to reach. Ive actually had a chop becuase i had grabbed wing with my hackey years ago and pitched, and the hack came out of my hand and flopped under my rig, and wouldnt come out. landed the reserve, and the hacky and pc fell out from between my back and rig.. just my 2 cents.. 11. The jumper in the video, had around 200 total WS jumps, and im guessing between 500-800 total jumps. He was flying a new tony X-wing on this jump, and believe he had a number of jumps on a P2 beforehand. In my opinion, This jumper did allow this spin to continue for quite some time, however.... I think he did the right thing... I believe that if the individual had ever felt like he was going to red/black out, he would have deployed his main. Had his ditter gone off, he would have deployed his main. Since he never felt like he got to that point, he was fighting the spin the entire time. The centerfugal force is what kept him from being able to get his knees to his chest, but he was able to keep his feet together. I can honestly say that had it been me in his shoes, I likely would have rode it as long as he did. I wouldn't recommend to everyone to approach this problem in this way, however, I do know that the individual has a much higher awareness of G-LOC and training that most of us, and in his situation, I believe he acted correctly. My intention with this post is to merely allow us all to see just how much RESPECT we all must have for these suits. The bigger they are, the faster you spin. Everyone wants one of these super high performance suits because everyone wants the best, right? At what point does a wingsuiter have enough experience to be prepared to handle something like this? Im really not for more regulation, but I really would like to see a change in mentality in our community. I still hear stories of guys buying suits, putting em on, and going and doing their first jump in a wingsuit.. New jumpers that just think theyre so good that they dont need 200 jumps.... they can do it now. We are all in a place in life where every human dreams to be from the time they are children.. We look at big puffy clouds with a zeal and passion that is unknown to most of the rest of the world; eveyone is seeing this and wanting to be a part of it. We have seen exponential growth over the last couple years, and we can expect that trend to continue, unless.... We continue to allow ourselves to get too big for our britches and put too much piane in the hands of the flight students. The FAA is watching us. Let us have a couple of people go in in a flat spin, and see how much longer we are even allowed to fly wingsuits in the US. Self regulation is the only way for us to continue down the path that we are all so passionate about. let us not forget the mistakes of the past. pchapman~ in regards to the spin itself, it was obviously nasty. At one point, he was spinning in all three axises, and in 2 axises thru most of the spin. you can actually see in the begining of the spin his leg wing tilted in one direction, and arm wings slightly in the opposite. Anyone know what a propeller blade looks like? Flat spin is just the easiest name for it, and it can be the result of various incidents.. 12. Hey there all... Had a couple of jumps this weekend at skydive city and wanted to share a video and start a conversation. I have my own thoughts but I wanted to get a group consensus of what everyone else thought. The performance being achieved in todays newer suits is just plain unreal. We have seen a progression in technology and ability in our discipline through gear and experience over the last 5 years. It's popularity has increased exponentially. The ability of the pilot to fly the suit, and the suit not fly the pilot, is now becoming more of a problem. My only desire in this is to start a discussion, about what kind of experience should be expected to upgrade to a ultra-high performance wingsuit? Everyone wants one... I know a few people who went out and bought a Ducati as their first motorcycle. I guess that is one analogy that many of us can relate to. just wanted to know everyone's thoughts, and check out the video... Some nice cloud swoopage at the end too.. Happy Dads day to all you out there affected by the release of your seed. ;) Scotty http://vimeo.com/12726853 Z Flock #11; Muff #1909; PFI #15, USPA Lifer Commercial Multi-Inst. 13. Fucking Chuck Blue!!!! I just spit my coffee all over the floor here at the charlotte airport when i read that. Awesome. Pure awesome. Justin A Flying Cannonball thank you very much... and remember, I make fat sexy in a wingsuit bitches!! even with my old SM1 with holes in the tailwing from over 2 years ago.. as well as in my new Stealth 2 that flys pretty damn nice... you skinny guys dont understand the plight of the fat wingsuiter. These suits all handle very differently when you load them like guys like me do... go put on 30 or 40 lbs of weight, and mabye take a small pilot chute and attach it to your head, and then go fly... :) gitter dunn!!! 18. +1000000 And if you didnt know, Scott Bland was skysurfing before most of us knew what a wingsuit was... and is one of the only people that I trust enough to follow out the door without even looking. And just in case you didnt get to see it, Heres my post that was removed. I must be careful with my verbage, I wouldnt want anyone to think this is a Personal Attack, because it is not.. Just so everyone is made aware of the current changes in the wingsuit community, someone has been elected to head up the new Central Wingsuit Intelligence Agency, or CWIA. Their lead charge is to ensure that the Names, addresses, phone numbers, and first born of all of those involved in the new terrorist group, the "Axis of Wingsuiting Evildoers", all come to light so the entire community can banish these Tar-babied morons from ever zipping up their suits again! Those Fools who just wont drink the special Kool-Aid. All those evil-doers and anyone who jumps with them should just burn their wingsuits and take up freeflying! oh no wait, bellyflying! Come on guys, are you really serious? oh yeah, and remember, Researchers: "Pigeon flocks let the best bird lead" but "While flocks have hierarchies, they’re not dictatorships. On another note, Birds that wont fly with the flock Usually get left behind pecking somewhere in a birdfeeder, or get eaten by a predator. 19. Im glad someone was able to hear, and agree with my fine resolution to this situation. and on another note I hope everyone was able to see my HUMOURS post before It was removed.. . there was no ill intentions behind it, however i think the Central Wingsuit Intelligence Agency was pretty damn funny... And its nice to be back in the air, on a lighter note~ LETS ALL GO FLY TOGETHER! Mabye then, we can all see Eye to Eye.. :P Z Flock #11; Muff #1909; PFI #15, USPA Lifer Commercial Multi-Inst. 20. Hey there boys and girls~ Just so everyone is made aware of the current changes in the wingsuit community, Phil has been elected to head up the new Central Wingsuit Intelligence Agency, or CWIA. All those evil-doers and anyone who jumps with them should just burn their wingsuits and take up freeflying! oh no wait, bellyflying. Wouldn't want you to have to deal with these evil-doers since a focus on freeflying during the largest wingsuit event of the year is just what the dr. ordered. Come on guys, are you really serious? oh yeah, and remember, Researchers: "Pigeon flocks let the best bird lead" but "While flocks have hierarchies, they’re not dictatorships. 21. Phil, It does seem that there are some grabbing for power these days. I dont think anyone is trying to take anything away from any of the participants of either of those events. Everyone did a great job, no question there. However I was at the BOD meeting. I recall quite a few things about how things went in meetings, as well as how they went at flock and dock. I cannot say that how some people handled themselves was something other than impressive. It sure seems that you take this all quite seriously, considering you were too busy working on your freeflying to join any of us in the sky during Flock and dock, The oldest running wingsuit event around. it seems that there is a large difference in some growing groups in our community, and that difference appears to be a willingness to jump at other peoples events; being an equal oppertunity skydiver. Mabye Im just sick and goddamn tired of all the political BS going on in our community, and the perpetrators thereof. Cant we all just get along? I sure see someone in this thread grabbing for something. its a big sky up there.. isnt there enough room for us all? I dont care to watch these forums anymore due to this very thread. I dont have time to write a book about why we should all get along, but cant well all see that is the best way out? Stay tuned kids... Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
