His wife had been talking to him about some resumes she had been looking over at her job, to fill a position.
(Not related to her husbands line of work).
She stated she was automatically throwing out any resumes from applicants whose applications showed they had previously made a higher salary than the position for which they were applying, because:
"They wouldn't be happy, and would not stay."

Would she also automatically throw out any resumes from applicants if all the lines are not filled in? It irritates me to know the application forms expect you to report previous salary, but if you don't fill it out you run the risk of somebody you will never meet throwing your application in the wastebasket before the interested parties ever get to see it.

I've been with the same company for 26 years so I haven"t been affected by this but I could be laid off tomorrow. Who knows?

There is a bar downtown, called Nelson Blue.

The owner is a skydiver. Many local jumpers hang out there often. Come in and say hi, and drink really great beer (did I mention that), and find out more about the scene on skydivers around here. PM if you need more info. Peace.

Downtown where? Downtown Manhattan? I do love a cold beer, and I wouldn't mind giving a skydiver my business.

i have such combination (without flatlock) and opteka fits perfectly (although it's little bigger than the blackbox on the righ and on top - if you are looking from the front).

so, no need to drill anything..

    Thanks, I appreciate the reply.

  6. I recently purchased a CX100 and Opteka 0.3 lens along with a Liquid Flatlock mount. Now I am thinking I should buy one of those Cookie Composites boxes to protect everything. Does anybody have this combination and can tell me that the Opteka 0.3 lens will actually fit that box, or would I have to do some cutting with a Dremel tool?

The HDR-HC1 was the first HD camera I jumped, and it has produced far and away the best video of any camera I've used. It's the one I would use if video quality were the #1 factor. I recently had mine refurbished; it had a broken flex cable from the door flopping open in freefall.

However, it's also big and bulky, and to get really good video you need a big lens as well (like a Raynox 5050.) So if size is more of a concern, there are probably better choices.

I have to smile when I read comments about big and bulky camcorders.

After reading comments in this forum I went out and bought a CX100 last month. I have not done any skydiving videos in years and the last camcorder I purchased was the Sony DCR-VX700 back in 1995. The BATTERY of that camcorder is a bit less than half the size of the CX100 camcorder.

Everything's relative, of course, and I know I sound like my grandfather "Back in the old days we used to ...". I will forever have etched in my mind the memory of seeing B.J. Worth come out of one of those trailers at Perris with an IMAX camera strapped to his chest.

What does this say about the CReW community in the US?
    • Is this a true reflection of the vigor of the CReW community?
    • Is this simply a reflection of folks no longer wanting “merit badges”?
    • Have I lost what little mind I used to have and am I making a tempest out of a teapot?

I don't think you are over-reacting. I was pleased to receive my 4-stack patch. My first 4-stack just happened to be at night (2:00am) and I submitted the paperwork for the 4-stack award and also the nite 4-stack award. After I received the patches & stickers in the mail did I look closely at the paperwork and read the line that said you can not apply for the 4-stack and nite 4-stack awards for the same jump. I am happy the folks at headquarters decided to send both awards to me anyway.

I have no idea how much it costs to make a run of, say, 30 patches. If they're not so popular they will just sit on the shelf until they do sell out. If I read between the lines of USPA's letter I'm afraid they are saying the other patches will not be available either after they run out of them.

Or it may just be that they have to order a certain minimum number of patches and since they have plenty of the others they can't economically order just what they have run out of.

I don't get to do CRW much anymore but I enjoyed my time in that activity.

The bark caller only works when it is audible enough such as a bark.. He has learned that "whining" doesn't set it off.. He's a smart little bugger..

Then you have to be smarter. He has learned that whining doesn't set it off so at night put him in a room farthest from the bedroom.

Oh, and do all that behavior modification stuff too.

Or you could buy him a friend. Two dogs might keep themselves entertained.

I recently took a quick weekend vacation to an outer island in Hawaii. While driving I "may or may not" have ran over something that inadvertently poked a hole in the oil pan.

There are certain roads in Hawaii that the car rental companies don't allow you to travel on. If the car becomes disabled on one of those roads you're out of luck. On the Big Island of Hawaii there are three roads that I recall are not allowed; the Saddle road, the road to Waipio Valley, and I think a road on the south side going to the green sand beach.

The Big Island is the only one I am familiar with in this regard but the other islands may have similar prohibited roads.

Once in a while, someone comes along who has no business being a skydiver. Call them a freak of nature, but for several reasons like being timid, no self confidence or just shit scared, they belong on the ground.

I was 17 and that “was” me. Looking back, if I ever had a student as bad as me I would highly discourage them from continuing. Someone like that is just asking for trouble. Their ability to react in any emergency is probably nil and they are totally dependent on the main working on each and every jump, that’s assuming they pull in the first place.

And now you have lots of jumps and many decades in the sport. Aren't you glad the people back then didn't think the way you are thinking now? Some students just need some calm encouragement from an authority figure. That's one of the traits of a good instructor.

An AAD does not, I repeat, does not open/deploy your reserve.

Correct, in the same sense that pulling your ripcord does not, I repeat, does not open/deploy your reserve.

Changing the name of that little box from "Automatic Opener" to "Automatic Activation Device" was dreamed up by the manufacturers' lawyers. They didn't want their clients to be hauled into court to explain why their "Automatic Openers" didn't open the parachute. It's a legal technicality.

Interesting. I considered buying from them when I wanted to buy one a couple weeks ago, trying to support the local merchants you know, but all I saw on their website was a cam-eye. Well, my mistake.
