  1. Its all about what you want out of your canopy. Personally I want bomber swoops and the rate of turn on the toggles doesn't effect my decision all that much. Although, it is fun to rip on a toggle and fly around. Some folks don't care about the riser pressure at all or how it builds past 90 degrees, but they want some really rapid and aggressive toggle control. same here I don't care about toggle turn rate at all and i don't whip my toggles at all it is much more fun for me to use rare risers with harness if I want to do some quick turns- which I am not a great fan of either and do it very rearly. I quess it comes again: different people like different stuff.
  2. I don't understand why toggle turn rate is so important? I would think that riser turns and their preassure is much more important on high performance canopies. Also I would think that any hp canopy will have a quick reaction to toggle imputs. What is toggles anyway can you fly with them?
  3. Quoteyeah just try to be as square as possible when you pitch..when you pack it dont push the nose in..and dont roll the tail too tight.. but definitely pay close attention to your body position on deployment... reply to piahenzi because the same thraed has been locked in the canopy and swoop section: you said that you like the light front risers and want to move to a big guys canopies later but dont crossbrace canopies have heavier preasure. In other words katana may spoil you? ;) I am still demoing it and getting used to katana will have to make a decision after whats best for me :)
  4. I would like to do that! Count me in I will try to get off of work for that weekend! reserve me a slot agent. Here we go we roll.. nanana set this thing in motion :D
  5. So what do you like better so far crossfire2 or katana? I found that on katana I don't have much end flare as I do on my cf2 also the openings that are being discussed here are nowhere as comfortable as on my gal :)
  6. I encountered froud when I was selling my canopy. First letter from "it" seemed like a regular buyer don't remember how exactly it went but "it" asked what was the lowest price I could sell it for and after replying to "it" he agreed to pay me the original price even though I was gonna sell the canopy for less and "it" had shipping all aranged someone was gonna come and pick it up.. all the BS so it was clear for me that it was a froud. when buying things I mostly relyied on their knowledge about the gear just like you did and telling me where they jump and actually I bought my new canopy from england which was a bit scary.
  7. exaclty! what if you have a mal? I read around here and people say that it works different with different canopies. I think if you are downwind rears and getting small will help you somewhat unless there's too much wind in your face then full flight is your best friend or if just need to make over those last couple trees get on double fronts. Now being long and up wind i was told to go in deep brakes this way you loose least altitude and wind caries you back but this probably best with higher wind conditions. I came back from long and strong up wind spots on my riers no problem.. who nows but I think it is most important to realize on time when your not making it back..
  8. Develepka no need to kick in the balls here I just tried a new canopy out of curiosity and found it way different than my current wing so I stoped here to see what people can say, so the next time I get a chance to fly it again I know what I should try out not repeating same mistakes over and over again till I get fed up. TO sarge I am not giving any advice to you bro because I don't know how to fly that thing. That was only a thought on what I am gonna do next time given a chance to fly KA and I like deep brakes for the same reason plus it lightens front risers. more imputs on techniques used by katana pilots are welcome! share your thoughts on what works best for you! Thanks and again I just shared my limited experience and am seeking for advice nothing more nothing less not trying to judge canopy by making 5 jumps on it.
  9. I just started on a Katana 120, and i'm facing the same issues... Here's some video http://halfer.dk/swaap2.wmv Any input on how to get more speed out of the dive?? Were you useing deep brakes on this one? video started right before it but it seemed like you did. Next time I'll try not to use them since preasure is so light on Katana.
  10. QuoteWhat wingload? What degree of turn? What initiation altitude? What do you consider a decent swoop? I loaded it at about 1.7 to 1. I did 180 degree turns which I think I should have started with 90 and bringing it to 180 gradualy but since I had only one day to play I opted for 180 right away which was not the best choice. I did one too low I started at around 560ft but had to bump it up and decided not to risk and brought it to 660ft which was too high or I just didn't know how to fly it right. Once I'll have a chance again I will try my aproach without deep brakes since KA riser preasure is so light. Anyways next day I flew my crossfire and openings were butter I can't appreciate that enough in comparaison to KA.
  11. I made 5 hnp's today on my friends katana 120. All of the comparisons will be with crossfire2 119. katana seems to dive more, has less riser preasure and maybe for that reason feels less rigid than the crossfire, openings are tricky and wants to spin you up, but what got me of guard was its swoops. It felt like I was loosing speed very fast and the canopy was so steep and wanted to be on the ground and not surf above it. This really disappointed me because katana suppose to be the closest thing to velo which is my future goal. I don't have that many jumps on crossfire2 119 either only 40 and I downsized from crossfire2 139(300+ jumps) it was an easy transition and I picked up on it rather quick but couldn't make katana go today. What I am asking is an advice from katana pilots on how to make it swoop? because logic says if it dives more it should swoop more as well. And light riser preasure should make it easier to achieve. Thanks for any imput! BTW my technique is: deep brakes, double fronts, leting one riser up to get it around, and then double fronts again. with harness imput which I start once on double fornts.
  12. Thanks Blink for the link! I know Aggie
  13. Ups I had you tube link here but didn't show up on here go and look for chiopis or tadinator ;)
  14. Yo Leds while you waiting for your new rig check out what we are doing at the swoop club! Ok, now whoever is going to check it out dont beat me to death I am learning... and its fun!
  15. No worries I'll do my best to stop by at the ranch this season! And show some skill anyhow the trip to florida tought me a lot and now I am a much safer at what and how i do while trying to swoop! Come to ck for swoop club? Both times we had gorgeous weather lil chilly on the first jump but no problems for the rest of the jumps and zero winds going into ~3mph downwinders SWEEEET! got to show nice and even more funny swooop I got during the club
  16. order yourself a demo...what size would you be flying? i dont advise downsizing... I did that a week or so ago got an email saying there's a waiting list and that they need to check my background. Requested katana 120 since i fly XF2 119 these days. Getting impatient maybe I'll email PD again or ring a bell to see if I qualified. if not I'll just buy katana 89 since there's one for sale now don't take me serously for the last sentence...
  17. I got it can't wait to try katana then!
  18. $1500 lighter and a Katana 97 just about to slapped on risers. Point is, I KNOW I will be under a Velo someday...:) Hey have you jump katana yet? How do they compare crossfire and katana similar size? Its intresting because you switched from one to another for SOME reason
  19. It was best times! Weather held on, we had zero winds, then 3-5 mph downwinders, and it was surpisingly warm! Hope to see you all this thursday with perfect weather conditions it will only get better!
  20. I only jumped crossfire2's had 139 and now 119 they fly and open like butter. It felt that riser preasure on 139 was a bit on a heavy side but 119 feels good at 1.7 wl. Today requested to demo katana 120 will try to compare and see which one i like better. Seems like both are wonderfull and fun canopies to fly from what I read on dz.com. And can only speak highly about crossfires. Cheers!
  21. Ok dude i see you know everythink. i am out of this ciao!
  22. define light? what do you want me to define? Sorry my English is not the best ;) Are you trying to say that being lower under slower wing will give you as much time as being higher under faster wing? I would have to disagree with you. You can finish the turn still being high and just keep on diving seeing everything and having time to react on smaller wing. While on the larger wing initiation point is lower and time to react is shorter. One reason shorter recovery arch another risers build weight too fast and you can not keep it in a dive for a long time. Don't beat me to death i don't know what I don't know just sharing my thoughts. BTW thats why 180 is dangerous since it is hard to set up for it. You landing away from where you flying, wind on your back etc.
  23. just an observation: I don't know if you have any problems landing and just want to get better but I see so many people coming for landing with their legs wide open... hey if you don't know how to safely land keep them in a posision to be ready for PLF advice-finish your flare another common mistake ;) loosen up your chest strap it will keep you in a better position for landing and woun't have to land on a butt because of that chokeing strap. aslo will give you a little advantage on a long spot. its just general nothing personal...
  24. go big or go home :) being serious: it is dangerous especialy on those lighter W/L's where you have to start low in order to get that swoop and not end up way up there yes, there are some techniques that help but big canopy is a big canopy and it is hard to keep it in a dive for a long time.Low turn=less time to react=more risk. I am not suggesting to dowsize just maybe do not play with BIG turns on lightly loaded wings. I also think it gives bad habits which are quite hard to get rid of in the future. also what I heard by taking courses is that 180 is a one dangerous turn and probably the hardest one to be concistent with. 270 is safer for that matter. of course nobody is talking loud yet that you should do 270's after 90's. I guess 180 is something you have to learn but be extremely careful. Just some thoughts and observations hope didn't insult any swoop gods out there ;) oh and get couching it helps A LOT gives you good guidlines what to work on and be safer if safety exist in this sport at all :)
