  1. For starters. Secondly, one learns early on that you turn back the way you came when you climb over a railing. You only need to have done one PCA to understand why this makes sense. Finally, once you're in position to jump you reach back to your lower pin and feel along the entire bridle to your pilot chute and tie-in point to make sure your bridle is well clear and routed properly. It's not rocket science.
  2. Although I suppose it's best to just find a climbing partner that doesn't jump. Then he can rappel all my shit down. Any takers?
  3. One thing I'm curious about is what to do with gear once you're at the top. Do you compromise and minimize and stow it all away on your body before you jump (I can think of ways to hide a minimalistic rack and half-rope, but there are limits), do you go get it afterwards (tricky when you're remote and getting to the top took you a day to begin with) or do you throw down a haulbag on a little round parachute?
  4. Hey, I'm wondering if people could share some of their experiences combining climbing and BASE. Has anybody ever seriously used a rig with built-in harnass, have you worn a rig and regular harnass at the same time, or do you climb and then pulley up a haulbag with your stuff? I guess different situations require different strategies, but I'd love to hear about other people's projects and lessons, especially if they involved lots of rope and other gear. Thanks, Jaap Suter
  5. Actually, it's 34 Celsisus / 93 Fahrenheit here today. A little too windy to jump though...
  6. Use that same weekend and the money you would spend on travelling to do a vertical-self-rescue course with your local climbing school. The things you'll learn will be more valuable and you'll have a ton of fun. Save Bridge Day for when you're ready to flick it like you lick it!
  7. Come on Nick, that's uncalled for. At least not on this forum.
  8. Fuck you, you fucking asshole. Stop being such a bitch and come on over on Saturday. Grandiose BBQ!

    Thanks Abbie

Yes he did, remember the sleeping bag incident?
  10. Thanks for posting this Tom. Is it worth putting a notice in the middle of the bridge for those that don't visit the forums between now and tomorrow? With all due respect to whomever involved, but since when is a broken ankle a minor accident? Can you elaborate? You have to try pretty hard to break an ankle at the Perrine.
  11. Indeed, but it's Shannon's get-well-carrot too. Shortly before her back operation I promised her I'd send a get-well-card. She misread card as carrot and asked me why in the hell I'd send her a carrot. And so I did...
  12. What's interesting is that the fatality list is by far the most educational tool available to the BASE community, if not the only one. Only the carnage-tape may be doing a better job. And therein lies my struggle; is BASE WIKI just a lame attempt at making the sport seem scientifically controllable? The Memorial day weekend proved to me -more than my own incidents- that we're all just rolling the dice. Nearly all accidents are explicable in hindsight, but a priori we don't have a clue. It just seems that way, and statistics are on our side. Up till now, I've been catering to the following people... "I'm going to get into BASE, no matter what! Oh wait, there's this free information available on the internet. Let's read that, that could be useful." As of late, I've been wondering how many of those people there really are. I think there are much more of the following people... "I don't think BASE is for me. It's much too dangerous! ... Hey wait a second, look at the forums. They're all having so much fun and they sound like they know what they're doing. Holy crap, look at this wiki site, it's like an encyclopedia that tells you what you need to do to not die. I'm totally gonna try BASE!" The former have always existed and will continue to exist in small numbers. The latter group is the monster we have created over the past few years, and it's the group we really need to be afraid of. I know, because I'm part of that group. My apologies to all the old schoolers who do comprehend what they bargain for every time they leave an object.
  13. I'll put forward a statement in the near future. It's not down permanently yet. I suspect it'll be back up in fact, but I have to talk to some people first. Apologies..

I think you'll get more response if you update your profile. That is, I hope it needs updating.
  16. Not directed at you gweeks, but... Why? Why? Why? ...may not have been wearing armor?... Why? I like water, it's very soft. It has cost me three cellphones so far, but my T-12 is still okay. I like practicing rear-riser landings on the dropzone. People look funny at me, but my T-12 is still okay. I like body armor, it's very sweaty on hot summer days but my T-12 is still okay. Of course I could still fracture my T-12 on my next jump. So take this with a grain of salt.
  17. Hello, can anybody give an account of some unfortunate landings that have been made in Twin last weekend? I know of at least a back problem, a leg problem, and a wrist problem, but heard rumours that there were other injuries. The fatalities of this weekend easily overshadow the other incidents, but in my humble opinion the latter are much better indicators of what we can expect in the coming years. Thanks, Jaap Suter

    Not cool.

    How old is this video?
  20. Woah! Congratulations! Was she crying or laughing when she called you?
  21. Just wait until the summer really gets going. Call me pessimistic, but I wouldn't be surprised if we're about to see the spike some have worried about for years.
  22. Bwahuahuahua... That just makes it even better.
  23. Why would anybody want to go to Norway, with so many beautiful and legal terminal cliffs in the US?
  24. Beatdown, bitches! Thanks Nick, that made me laugh. Somebody had to say it, but it takes somebody with your wisdom and age to make it stick. Unless of course they'd have the balls to poke at you. But I doubt it. Nobody's ashamed of being a Nick-lover...
