  1. Boy do I understand what you are saying. I still treasure those memories of total freedom in the 80ies.
  2. Hi there, Just wanted to inform you all that I have put my new website - wwww.base66.com online. You can read about my book, purchase a BASE t-shirt and more. Take it easy, Jevto BASE66
  3. Congratulations for having the guts to quit. Maybe you and I should start the RBJA (The Retired Base Jumpers Association). Take it easy and have fun paragliding. Jevto BASE 66

  9. Hi there, Some cool pics of Johnny Utah having a good time reading a book. ''You never really live until you almost die.'' Jevto http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/0595335101/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_all/103-0684059-8621445?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=books
  10. Hi there, I was wondering if anyone who has a copy of my book could take a picture (.jpg) of it in action. It could be holding it before a jump on top of a building, bridge ..... or any other creative ideas. Then you can either send the image to me and I'll post it on my book's page on www.amazon.com with a caption or you can do it yourself. Why am I doing this? Because it will show the world that BASE jumpers are pure intellectuals!! (If you want to check what it will look like log onto www.amazon.com and type BASE 66) '' You never really live until you almost die'' Jevto
  11. Jaap, Yup. Rings a bell. My buddy Scott Elder actually slept with my girlfriend in Paris while I was on a business trip. We had just jumped a bridge in Germany, the adrenaline was still pumping and I had to leave for business. Scott was still on a high after the jump. When I got back I was surprised to enter a very clean appartment ( he had my keys - big misstake) and he had prepared a fantastic dinner. He served me beer, wine and tequila and then he said: '' Jevto, while you were away I slept with your girlfriend and it was nice''. I stared at him, wondered if I should attack him right away, jab at him with a screwdriver , gouge his eyes out.... and then I just started laughing. That is what real friends are all about, I thought. They sleep with your girlfriend, cook you a nice dinner, serve you fine wines and then play the banjo for you.(Scott is an excellent banjo player.) So Jaap, lock yourself up in your home during the adrenaline withdrawal phase. I don't want you knocking on doors asking people ....'' Hey, is your girlfriend in?'' Jevto
  12. Jaap, I sure do understand what you mean. I have been fighting that feeling for the last 25 years. I only made 20 BASE jumps in the early 80ies although I must admit that each jump was like an expedition. As I don't BASE jump anymore..!!?? I have had to try to find that adrenaline rush somewhere else and that is tough. 10 years ago I decided to move to Canada from Paris with my wife and two kids. I arrived at the airport without a job, didn't know anybody, no home,... nothing except my determination. That was an adventure but nothing to be compared to BASE jumping. Professionaly I have changed jobs every so often because I easily get bored. Now what I do is to walk into the Québec wilderness alone and at night to get as scared as possible. Black bears and wolfs roame the forrest so that makes it more fun. My wife knows when I am in severe adrenaline withdrawal and sends me into the wilderness. After having been a BASE jumper how can one not be bored by what western society has to offer. Sorry Jaap, I just think you have to get prepared to fight/enjoy this feeling/frustration for the rest of your life. If you come to Québec I'll try to set up a meeting for you with a 400lb female black bear with two cubs. That should give you a kick. Jevto

    The End . . . ?

Nick, You and I never met but I have heard so many great things about you. I'm brain mailing you 5lb of positive energy right now directly from sunny Québec City. Your friend you don't know Jevto
  14. Hi everyone, Being a very inexperienced BASE jumper compared to most of you I do have a suggestion. Couldn't we send the poor guy Scott some positive energy so that he heals better and quicker instead of fighting it out within the community? I believe the last thing Scott needs is to get news that everybody is debating about why he hit the building, why he shouldn't have, what he did wrong, how he screwed up, how he missjudged that and how he missjudged this etc. Let's support our collegue instead. Jevto ( a very old fart from the 80ies)
  15. I would like to offer our suffering buddy a free copy of my book, BASE 66 - A story of fear, Fun and Frefall. He can read about how we almost died a couple of times back in the 80ies and it might cheer him up. If I send it to you could you deliver it to him? Jevto
