  1. It is legal to jump in England and Spain if you wish without an AAD. However certain dropzones, for example Empuriabrava do themselves insist on an AAD or will prevent you from jumping. -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  2. Does your Cypres consider the position of your camera person? When you are below 1000 ft in freefall, without a cypres (I don't have one) you are dead if you turn and track. I guess when we talk about "low" we have differing thoughts as to what that is. For me, it's sub 1000 ft in freefall at terminal, because I've been there (stupidly) both intentionally and unintentionally. check the video dude. The camera guy's watching them all the way, and has a two out himself! -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  3. They can increase your penetration if you were flying into wind, but at the cost of altitude. -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  4. I'd say you owe the man an apology. Especially cast aspersions,to incidents when the skyhook was not involved. -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  5. Hi, Yeah I wasn't suggesting disconnecting routinely at low level. After all the scenario is pretty unlikely. Just something for us skyhook owners to take into consideration. -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  6. Okay I see. But am I right to think, it's still nice if you have time to disconnect even on a one-sided, as it makes things tidier, which is good!? -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  7. I'm not an instructor, but can you clear this statement up. Are tandem rigs different regarding the way RSL's function. On a sports rig, releasing the rsl is recommended once the reserve is out as there is less entanglement risk on cutting the main away. Is this different on a tandem? Thx -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  8. Just a thought I had the other night. In the past there has been a widely put about myth that if you landed on a windy day in a dangerous place ( on a roof for example) and you had to cut your canopy away ( to avoid being dragged over the top for example) then you had to detach your RSL or your reserve would come out and put you back in the same situation. This of course is bollocks, as only the reserve pilot chute would come out, which isn't going to drag the reserve out and put you in a fix. HOWEVER, with the advent of the skyhook, which I have myself, unless I'm missing something it would do exactly that. The main could drag your entire reserve canopy out. Unlikely I know but possible with a departing main canopy and strong wind. So just a thought, maybe us skyhook owners should make sure the RSL is detached prior to a ground cutaway ( although I hope we never find ourselves on a roof !) P.S does anyone know if BB tested this scenario? -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------

  13. I stand corrected. I assume your an instructor? Just that when I learn't (static) no one pushed us out the door, we did it ourselves. -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  14. 'Whatever' I'm glad I didn't learn at your DZ nice modern reserve, lucky the dude missed the trees -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  15. Could of fooled me. But okay I take back the 'dick' he's probaly a good guy. However he's clearly pushed, and if thats helping the guy....... -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  16. http://storage.headdown.net/reserve1.mov Check this t**t of an instructor, the jumper clearly isn't expecting to be pushed, and has a consequent mal, with a nice round reserve, only just misses the trees. what a dick -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  17. Fine if your sure you've got the TIME to decide whether the pin is in or not and then, change your EP's as a result......
  18. Hi, I'm taking a friend (English) out to Deland in March. If he does his AFF there, how does he/can he become a member of the BPA for his long-term jumping in England? Or will he be pernamently uspa even in England? -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  19. I'm sure in time the Vigil will be a nice bit of kit. But 3 misfires that I've heard of... I'll let other people break it in for a few years before I change my Cypres2. -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  20. What is this thread...we've all got cheap rigs, lets pat each other on the back?? I'm only joking before u all get upset! -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------

  22. no argument there, but my point is the more complex you make the system, the greater the likelihood that something might go wrong. --------------------------------------------------- Actually I completely agree with you, but the beauty of the skyhook is that it is actually pretty simple. I believe Bill and a colleague had a system designed to do the same thing 15 years ago but it was too complex to be used. And the point was if it was installed the wrong way round , it does not prevent a manual reserve pull. -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  23. ??? Don't make it so complicated. AAD is not the Holy Grail and its not a replacement for education or currency. That's your last chance. You don't have to know more than stay its operational envelope and act as you don't have any. If you can not locate your handle/PC you should use your reserve as you learnt. I have a funny landing if my 32" PC does not collapse. I don't want to have a reserve trailing behind me on landing. Did u actually read my post? my point was about keeping things simple -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
  24. Been discussed in other posts The RSL has flaws, flaws most of which have been fixed by Skyhook (atleast from what I have seen in videos / and read about) ... As far as the RSL, I choose not to use one because I have not needed it in two chops, and with the flaws it has I feel that its got a higher potential of hurting me then it does helping me, but that's just how I feel after proving to myself that I can do my EPs... I dont feel that the skyhook has the same draw backs. I dont know that anyone has found any real drawbacks to Skyhook unless your doing CRW, ....
  25. Right, but then again, the rigger needs only consult the nifty picture diagram on one of the closing flaps of the reserve to review the diagram, nevermind that the rigger should have the manual handy when packing anything just incase a question arises. reply] If it's not done correctly yes the skyhook won't work, but the reserve CAN STILL be deployed manually! P.S If your reserve canopys not connected it won't work either -------------------------------------------------- Practise the 6 P's! --------------------------------------------------
