  1. If Jimmy Coiner had been a Spartan the movie would have been called "1". "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  2. Bitches aint nothin but ho's and tricks! "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  3. If I've been sick (common Cold) I find that I will get those kinds of sinus pains when jumping within a week of being ill. But its only happend to me a couple of times in the last 9 years. Definitely painful and not worth jumping with. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  4. For crying out loud I thought we already discussed this. NSFW!!!! I really expected more from you Shelly. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  5. Dude, you need to be careful posting pictures like that on here. If you are reading this, you're lucky, Jimmy Coiner has spared your life. But right now you need to look over both shoulders, if you don't see anything, chances are Jimmy Coiner is sneaking up on you; you have less than a minute to live. As a Kid on Halloween Jimmy Coiner was given pennies instead of candy by a neighbor, that neighbor? Jimmy Hoffa. Sonny Bono once cut Jimmy Coiner off while skiing. Once. Dominoes once delivered Jimmy Coiner's Pizza in over 30 minutes. Let's just say he is the reason why they ended that policy. Christopher Reeve owed Jimmy Coiner $10, Jimmy evened the score. If you drink Pop Rocks and Cola, Jimmy Coiner will rip your insides out and use your organs to make a change purse. God owes Jimmy Coiner several favors. So be careful posting pictures of Mr. Coiner on here. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  6. http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/petition-sign.cgi?bluesky I signed it. The DZ that I like to frequent has separated areas and I love that. It is the best option for everybody. But not every DZ has that option and I don't want to see a BSR added that would put some DZ's in a difficult position of having to ban hook turns to follow the rules. I vote leave it up to the individual DZ's with their individual circumstances. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  7. I'm kind of worried about the number of Jimmy pictures you seem to have. Especially considering the fact that he is topless in half of them. Maybe you should throw an NSFW on that due to the high likelyhood of an orgasm when viewed by most women. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  8. Save the swoopers.....save the world! "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  9. Jim, I can't tell you how much I loved your story. Aside from laughing out loud at a number of parts, I found it to be very informational on a part of this sports history. I have printed it and saved it with my skydiving collection. Thank you so much for sharing it, and I hope that I get the opportunity to be involved in this sport long enough to be labeled a "Grumpy old fart". If you have more works like this please share. Thanks again, Joe. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  10. I am intrigued by your reply. I'm glad you shared it, because what I took from this was almost the opposite. Back in the "old days" of freeflying (i.e. late 90's) this is how the few of us were treated by many of the "old guard" of RW'ers. Viewed as dangerous, pointless and wasting our time. I read this and thought about how some of the people that had discouraged freeflying had been around back in the late 60's and early 70's. I thought it was interesting to see that some had faced the same opposition that they now showed to others who were taking the sport in another new direction. I think your post was good for me to read, its good to see the other side. I'm sure that I have at times in the past "poo-pooed" the older generation, but I do have lots of respect for those who helped pioneer this sport I love so much. I hope that you don't really think that we don't understand that the process we are going through isn't completely new. We have been able to cut many corners in our big-way attempts, and now 4-way VRW by using the knowledge that was learned the hard way by those who pioneered RW and have been willing to share what they have learned with us. Today with "serious freeflying" on many of the DZ's I hope that you will see more of them listening attentively to advice that they can apply to their discipline. Of course there is the possiblity that young'uns will always be disrepectful and old farts will always be grumpy, but I hope thats not the case. Joe. 11. Nick was wondering if you could pick him up a Coconut Jock Strap? But I don't know if coconuts get that small. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  12. Do coconuts get that big? "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  13. Excellent. Payne is a good organizer, and one hell of a flyer. You won't be dissapointed. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  14. I did that already and I'm not to sure I want to go back down that road. Having a load organizer is much more fun than being a load organizer. If I was a boogiemiester helping someone with travel expenses and covering all of their jumps, I'm going to expect that person to be on the first load and working all day to insure that everybody is getting on fun and challenging skydives. I don't think that fits Nicks idea of a vacation. Although he is quite skilled in the air, he would make a better afterhours organizer as I would guess that he will probably be going to bed about the time the first load takes off. 15. Are you saying it couldn't handle nine jumpers? No Lager!! Dude that is a major downer. I'm bummed, those guys rock. Jerry will find you something good, but I feel sorry for whoever comes out and plays for a crowd thats been getting Lager the last few years. Why isn't Davies organizing for you this year? Who are you going to get? I know a few people, let me know if I can help. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  16. Hey Frank, what are you getting for aircraft? I'm assuming we'll be seeing one of SD AZ's Otters, but are you going to have two again this year? What about Load Organizers? Please tell me your not going to cheap out on the Organizers! Everybody else, GO TO THIS BOOGIE! Everything about this boogie is excellent. Great airport for jumping, camping and partying. You'll be bummed if you miss it. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  17. I feel like I'm coming under attack. I think my posts are coming off in a way different than I intend. I will try to clarify. Kallend - Your original reply to me insinuated that I should support the petition becuase it could mean a separation in time. The reason I don't support it is becuase it COULD mean lots of things and I don't want to put my name on something that I may not agree with. Mnealtx - I believe that the original poster did have a point. Many may not agree with it. Thats fine, unfortunately I felt the need to point out that we were bickering over words he used and claiming that he had no point. I feel that he did have a point and one that we should take into consideration before adding BSR's to the books. Walt - Flame all you want. As I've already stated, I agree that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. I do not swoop in traffic! I in no way implied that it was my "right" to do whatever I want. I don't appreciate your comments making me out to be something I'm not. In the end, I am not opposed to regulations regarding this subject. My personal stance is that the community IS and will continue to address this problem and a workable solution will arise. I haven't seen any "rules" that are going to stop people from making poor/stupid decisions. If the rule works it will only work because of people taking action on something that they should be taking action with anyway. I'm not trying to argue with anybody, I hope that we can discuss this in a decent manner and find a solution. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  18. His stance is one against numerous and frivolous rules. As an example, do we really want the gov. to raise our kids. When do the rules stop. If you want to save lives by making rules you will eventually be left with only one rule left to make: For the safety of those who choose to do it Skydiving is no longer permitted. I think that was his point. I think it is a good point, and I agree with it. I read what you posted earlier (before you edited it) about how swoopers weren't killing people 3 years ago. Roger Nelson comes to mind, along with a collision at the record attempts in Chicago. This problem isn't new, we've had a rash of them in the last year, but its been around ever since people could steer parachutes, and disobey flight patterns. Everybody (S&TA's, DZO's, Instructors, and Experienced jumpers) need to get serious about addressing the issue with the people who are the problems, that is the way I would like to see this problem solved before resorting to our governing body to fix it. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  19. What does my sig line have to do with anything. I am 110% in favor of separate landing areas, I don't swoop in traffic. But I'm not in favor of banning swooping, and (back to my original post) I'm not going to put my name on something that is so vague it could be an across the board USPA Ban on diving approaches. Thats all. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  20. What a petty arguement. I think the original point was quite obvious, whether you agree with it or not, and you are all complaining about the fact that he put the word Federal in his post. Your post adds nothing to this conversation, I feel his did. Joe. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  21. For the Nth time, maybe you should put that in your BSR petition so that we know what the hell you want us to put our names on. Separation in time is an idea that works in the form of restricting diving approaches to solo jumps/hop'n pops where the only traffic you have is flying the same approach as you. As a swooper it is always my goal to separate my landing from all of the other landings by as much time as possible but even when am the last one out, pull high and ride in brakes the entire canopy flight I will often still beat other canopy's down. If you have swoopers spread out throughout the load and they can't swoop untill all of the straight in approaches are completed you have basically banned swooping when there is no separate landing area. I'm not going to sign that petition. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  22. I'm all for separating landing areas but that doesn't work for all DZ's. I'm not going to support something that as far as I'm concerned could turn into a ban on diving approaches. I feel that individual DZ's need to handle this on a DZ specific basis since no rule can accomadate every situation that DZ's are dealing with. I do feel strongly that DZO's need to seriously consider what they can do to make the landing area/areas safer for everybody. But right now a rule from USPA saying they need to separate all landing areas is simply going to result in many DZ's having to ban either swooping or straight in approches to accomadate the new BSR. Joe. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  23. THAT is impressive!! "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  24. In the long run, nothing but regret will come from listening to those thoughts. I would rather die at 58 and leave my kids a million bucks then wake up completely broke at 75 living off of my resentful children. And as far as "immediate happiness" and "living for today", I think those things are highly overrated and usually just end people with STD's and Drug addictions. There is much more to be said for making responsible decisions, you'll be much happier in the long run. Look around you at the DZ. This is a sport that appeals to ALL age groups. You may have just as much desire to be skydiving at 60 as you do now. If you truly enjoy the sport you'll still be jumping late in life, as long as you don't ruin your finacial picture while your in your twenties. Spending your 401k now could easily force you to quit the sport in your thirties or forties when you realize that you have no retirement plan and you need to get serious. Where as saving just a little throughout your twenties might mean you can quit saving in your forties and spend more on other things. When I started skydiving I was really concerned with the amount of money that I was spending on it. I made a pact with myself that for every dollar I spent on skydiving I would justify it by putting a dollar in the stock market. That was 9 years, 3 rigs and 1100 jumps ago. I've stopped adhearing strictly to those rules and probably spend more on skydiving than I save now, but I have enough money in that one account that I should have nearly a mil at 63 if I were to completely stop saving today. I didn't get to go to as many boogies, I didn't own the newest gear, I didn't make as many jumps each year as I wanted/could afford to, but I don't regret any of that in the slightest, and when I'm 50 I hope to be the guy at the DZ every weekend flying circles around the 20somethings with newer gear than me. Thats my story hope it helps. "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
  25. If you are in the 25% tax bracket and you pull out 4K for a new rig your going to pay 1000 bucks in taxes along with a 10% penalty for early withdraw. Your going to fork over 1500 dollars to the gov just to spend your money. I'm not recommending that you use a credit card but you would be better off paying 18% interest on a 1 1/2 year loan for your rig. My actual advice, save your money and definitely buy a USED rig. Especially if your new to the sport, in a few months your going to want different equipment anyway. Good luck.
