One thing I never understood until I had about 40 jumps: Prop - Up - Down = Ready - Set - Go I was very nervous in the door my first few jumps - until I realized the worse that could happen is that I fall out!!!! Then it was smooth sailing

1st jump 7 days before my 25th bday 3rd jump 3 days before my 25th bday - broke leg now 26.5 - healed leg - been jumping (again) since April '01

Congrats on your first solo! I remember mine... that's when I finally realized why people liked to skydive. Up to that point I wasn't that psyched b/c it was always stressful. You mentioned that you counted to 6 before exiting - which is probably what the other jumpers told you to do based on current conditions. I did the same thing when I first started doing solos... nobody told me to watch the jumpers leave the plane... I basically was doing a '1,2,3,4,5 GO' because I was so nervous. It wasn't untiil I almost joined another group's skydive that I began to question this method and took it upon myself to learn how other jumpers were calculating 5-6 seconds. To my surprise - many people didn't have an answer. They just said what other people told them... and stuck with that even after hundreds of jumps. The most important thing I've learned is to watch the group in front of you until they have a 45 degree angle of separation. This saved me big time once when the count was '4 seconds' with a hybrid dive before me. For some reason - they just fell straight down - no drift for about 10 seconds. If I wouldn't have watched them the entire time - I'd have jumped out right on top of them! That was scary because I had people telling me to go... the green light is on - get out! So I guess my point is - just make sure you understand where the count comes from and please watch the group in front of you. And never exit unless you're ready! Blue skies! Deva

Sketchers are the best! I have 4 pairs. One specifically for skydiving - no laces, smooth soles, blue, and they have an 'S' on them - stands for skydiving, right?

My new rig has triple risers - which I've never used before. What differences should I expect? What are the pros and cons? I'm flying a Stiletto 120 at ~ 1.1. Thanks! Deva

That is definitely GOAT! He is so cute (yes - even in that picture!) He hasn't been able to skydive in over a month now. He hurt his back - not skydiving - we don't know how... Where did you go? I met you bright and early Saturday morning - then never so you again! I looked for you and Curious George... I even did an organized belly jump thinking you might be there (well - and cuz I wanted to jump with Linda! and stay current) - at any rate - I'm sad I didn't see you again! How did your weekend go? Now I know since I just read this post... I posted with your name spelled wrong - so I guess you didn't think it was you... Love your writing - it is amazing scenery, isn't it. My first visit to Elsinore I only had 19 jumps.. You described exactly what I felt. I couldn't believe how fast the ground cam at me! The air is slower here in Texas (nice and humid). But I've been to several dzs now - I definitely reccommend travelling - every dz has it's own vibe and uniqueness and amazing people. Perhaps you can come out to Skydive Dallas??? We have a HUGE grassy landing area, and nice winds - easy to land :o). cb Deva
