  1. Which GoPro? 2, 3? Haven`t jumped it yet, but ground footage looks something like GP Silver with added sharpening. dudeist skydiver #42
  2. Hi all. Anyone here uses Toshiba Camileo X-Sports for skydiving? Looks a lot like GoPro clone, but improved. Any thoughts or impressions? I will have couple of units for a few days to test them and it would be nice if anyone who have some experience to chime in. Thanks dudeist skydiver #42
  3. You got it. I set my brakes right after landing (off the hand and straight into the toggle keeper), not giving them opportunity to twist. After that, when I get to packing area I always do a visual check before packing. And every couple of jumps, I unstow them again before packing and untwist them (if there is need for it). I know, it`s very anal... dudeist skydiver #42
  4. Untwisted them jump before this one. I check them every couple of jumps and always set them just after landing. Will look for damage, but I packed it three times after this, so probably should have seen something. dudeist skydiver #42
  5. Last Sunday I had a spinning malfunction. Just after opening, canopy started fast spin to the right (360 degrees every ~1.5 second). At that time I thought it was brake fire, so I reached to unstow the breaks. After unstowing canopy continued to spin for a while, but I pumped breaks some more and it stopped. Later that evening, after reviewing photos, I realized that it was not brake fire, but that the upper brake lines got entangled with C/D lines. See picture>> [inline what.jpg] After this, I did 3 more jumps without problems. My question is: What caused this? Was this tension knot? Bad packing? Canopy is JFX 104, HMA lines, vectran brake lines. Any info is appreciated (so that i ensure that it does not happen in the future). Thanks dudeist skydiver #42
  6. No. Our TIs have very very large arms. Yup, left hand. Sorry, I quick-typed it. dudeist skydiver #42
  7. Everybody here are doing diving exits. For hookup student sits in TI`s lap. TI sitting next to the pilot sit facing aft. TI spot, right hand grab strut, left leg on the step. Student just puts his legs on the step (difficult with larger students). TI put other foot on the step sitting in the door frame and launch towards tail. TI sitting in the back face forward. Pair goes to the door by sliding on the butt. Rotating around right door frame. Exit is the same. Some TIs sitting in the back choose to sit facing aft (behind pilot), buttslide to the copilot position. During buttslides there is a greater chance of snagging something, so be carefull. Do a good handle check before exit. Some TIs arch and go without looping, some go for the loop. I have ton of videos, but I don`t know when will I have a chance to put it online. Hope this helps. dudeist skydiver #42
  8. I can`t say for this particular company, but large amount of skydiving gear (mostly clothes, gloves etc.) are made in third world countries, then branded in the "west" and sold as "Made in Westernistan". Pakistanis, Chinese, Indians will make what ever you want in what ever quality you are prepared to pay. dudeist skydiver #42
  9. I saved myself couple of weeks ago with Icarus 160. Opened quick, good wind penetration, flared great, landed on the spot right next to freebag. dudeist skydiver #42
  10. What is the reason? I suppose that you did this yourself already. Do you have any pics? dudeist skydiver #42
  11. DSE you wrote very nice article. Thanks. Final question is: In your opinion, can this camera (+remote) replace "cx100+wide adapter+hypeye" combo as work/tandem camera? dudeist skydiver #42
  12. We had one (SL) student that did exactly THAT After doing absolutely worst exit I have ever seen We found about it just by coincidence. When asked: "Why did you took so long to pick up your gear after landing?", she said that she "Lost her phone after landing and was trying to find it..." "Ahem... And what were you doing with the phone...?" It seems that common sense is gone with this generation. I suppose that from now on the rule "Using cellphone during the jump is not permitted" should be specifically emphasized. dudeist skydiver #42
  13. Service ceiling: 3,000 m (9,840 ft) good luck for skydiving. It's very hard to believe that a Walter M601 (now GE) turboprop can only take this light aircraft to 10.000'. Wikipidea is showing this service ceiling for the Finist, not the TURBO Finist. Yup. Walter delivers 500hp link and if you look for DZs that operate Finists they go fast to 4000m+.For example, follow the link. dudeist skydiver #42
  14. Lazslo makes the adapter. Works like a charm with my CX.
  15. I hit under canopy, so I don`t know if it counts (crossfire WL 1.6+, 45mph). Last thing I remember was: "Shit, I`m gonna hit!" And remember stabbing brakes hard. After that, it all went black as if someone turned off the lights. Darkness, silence, no pain, no nothing. That day somebody up there decided it wasn`t my time to go. I got through with just concussion and minor knee damage. Soooooo lucky... dudeist skydiver #42
  16. +1 on what other guys have said (need for good framing and no need when using "gopro"). Last year I did some xx-way RW formation videos and found it irreplaceable. "Filling the whole frame" thing. With tandems, ringsight helps, but you can get away without it. For inside video, IMO it is not necessary. dudeist skydiver #42
  17. What`s with the the rubber band on gopro(s)? dudeist skydiver #42
  18. We do it. But you only get 5k slot. With our jump ticket prices, profit margin is too thin for full alti ticket. dudeist skydiver #42
  19. I started jumping XF2 at 600+ jumps (and pounded in 50 jumps later). IMO, if your jump numbers are correct, it`s too early for you. But, you`ll probably do it your way in the end. So if you do, go for the XF2, not the Katana. Better openings, more glide and little less dive, which will probably keep you alive longer. dudeist skydiver #42
  20. I jump wing jacket + swoop pants these days (no booties). For the most of the time I use wings for fall rate adjustment, and I use legs for steering. With heavy tandems I just fly with hands on my chest, wings closed. When I jump 182, I`m hanging on the strut before exit. Leaving with tandem pair. After that I sitfly/backfly the exit, bellyfly the middle and back/sit the opening. Exiting from the strut, you are out of tandem path and out of drogue path. You have to go small and ball up to keep with drogueless tandem. You must look TI and anticipate drogue throw so you can pop your wings and stop when they throw it (wings are great for stopping). Takes a bit of practice. Learn how to go from belly to back without popping up. I got my audible set to 500ft before tandem opening so I would know when to go to sit. If tandem passenger is not so good, I stay on belly for the whole time. Using RSL shackles for attachment if good idea. I used plastic clips at the beginning, but switched to stainless RSL quick release after the first time one of the wings disconnected after exit (I managed to got that video OK ) So, try to learn how to fly with just one wing. RSL isn`t bulet-proof. Just last weekend, again, I had to fly with just one wing - I somehow managed to disconnect RSL. Still can`t figure out how? On the belly, wings can help you get good steep angle in front of and lower than tandem pair. You can hang onto them like hanging on the shelf. As for other aircraft (floating exit), it`s all about experience. It helps if TI gives good count, but you have to watch for the center of mass. You have to go earlier. If you go at the same time with them, they will steal your air. Unless you push yourself more sideways rather than sliding down the plane. If you miss the count, wait for them to pass you by, then go after them. Watch out for the drogue. Also, depending on the wing construction, there is a possibility that you pull your cutaway handle with wing. Watch out for that. I don`t use thumb loops, mu swoop cords go around palm. I tried the thumb thing, but the loop got of my finger once, so I`m sticking with the palm loops. And yes, practice everything on somebody else, not on tandem. dudeist skydiver #42
