  1. 'm looking for the best quality stills system I can find, while simultaneously being as light as possible. Ive jumped nikon DSLR's for too long, and every monday is spent sore as hell. I love the quality of my d800, but as stated earlier, I'm not getting paid anymore for it on a tandem, so double gopros it is. Commercial work and personal projects, it's dslr all the way. Right tool for the job kind of thing. You guys can destroy your necks for a 30$ gig if you want, but I'm done with that nonsense. Not to mention the majority of skydiving "photographers" posses less actual photography knowledge than a high school photo 101 student. I've been intrigued by the new mirrorless systems coming out, 10fps and 25mp while remaining small and light sounds like the future to me..
  2. I see alot of "give me" in your post, but that's probably the biggest issue right there. It's up to you and you alone to ensure your competence and safety on a skydive. "Please give me something to do that I can practice "altitude awareness." Skydive, look at your altimeter, repeat. On the ride to altitude, look out the window and guess your altitude. Reference your altimeter for confirmation. Note the cloud base and ceiling versus said altimeter on way up, and again on way down. You sound stressed out, you should "just relax" :)
  3. the d300 does have a wired option. you may be thinking of a d40 i jump a 300 all the time. no worries.
  4. http://avenfoto.com/gallery2.html a few tunnel images.
  5. the best boogie is bridge day. second has to be MOAB cya.
  6. all the way to the DIRT. just one time though..
  7. not a single shot, rather a compilation of many all images shot by myself, video at end by shaneshaffer http://test.avenfoto.com/Sequence1.mov edit to add link to high(er) resolution (91mB) http://test.avenfoto.com/sequence1_hires.mov and a few images from my most recent skydive http://avenfoto.com/hogflop09web/
  8. both require canon or nikon bodies, op is using a sony alpha
  9. with a sony alpha the 580exII is a total waste of money. you wont be able to use any of the features youre paying for. you will only be able to shoot in manual mode, so opt for a used sb80 28 or 26 from nikon. less than a hundred bux on ebay .
  10. that is fantastic. now just get that flash off lens axis and make something happen
  11. ok. figgered it out, thanks to a local friend and learned tons of great avchd info, thanks to the VASST avchd tutorial dse recommended... the codec used for the clips, needs to match the format of the timeline. now i have no render whatsoever, and full RT. killer. cya -b
  12. thanks for the recommendations everybody. is there a way to add codecs to express or is this one of the crippled features that makes it "express" any fcp basics tutorial site recommendaitns.?
  13. the video is secondary. www.avenfoto.com are you importing as prores like dse said?
  14. so use log and transfer to convert to prores? thanks for your time. -b
  15. wanted to add, i ordered a avhcd workflow dvd from vasst. as per your recommendation in a different post.should be here anyday. maybe thheres some help in there...
  16. thnaks for the quick reply. 1- any help there? are there specific settings i shouild check? what codec should i be converting to. what are decoders? and how do i check that? how do i ensure my dtop has them or update them? am i stuck with the interlaced footge? its beyond annoying. lines on everything...
  17. ok. im a photog not a videog, and all this codec biniss is foriegn to me. so im converting all my cx footage to full res mov's with mpegstreamclip. then ediing in final cut EXPRESS. i have a few questions. 1- is there a way to set the mem usage hihger than 2500mb? ive got a dual quadcore 2.8's and 18gigs of ram, but still dragging ass on the renders, and almost no RT playback... is this a FCE thing? everyone of my video editing friends say i should be getting epic performance out of my hardware. 2- i am constantly having to rerender my entire project in fce on the same machine. when i open it, or even if i minimize the window, post render, to use a different app, then bring FCE back to the front, i have to rerender the entire timeline. this is maddening. and it only happens on my desktop, not my mbp. wtf? 3- is there a way to shoot on the cx in a progressive mode as opposed to interlaced? these lines on all my footage are pretty lousy as well. thanks for your input. sorry for the questions. -b
  18. so whats the deal with the camera step then? do you front float oyur tandem videos? (Serious question)
  19. why does everything have to be an argument around here? thanks for your input. you sound like all kinds of fun. have a nice day.
  20. jesus christ man, it was my first day. thanks for your input. perhaps you have some images to share?
  21. drouge "arrived" unexpectedly. we were seperated pretty good horizontally, but still had some forward movement when he pitched, hence the horizontal drouge deployment. the "accidents" generally produce some of the best results...
  22. aw man. total bummer. that guy was the best. i visied his shop in deland a few times and was just blown away at the volumes of information he held in his head, the ancient amazing pictures on the walls, and the absolute perfection, and clean lines in his work. so long, legend. -b
