  1. my first thought also was that the slider could be causing your problem. do you have slider stops on your risers? i also don't like the stretchy excess line stow sleeve- i prefer the ones that vse uses. there are also other ways to stow your excess than by using that sleeve- especially if it gives you issues (i.e. around the top of your toggle)! and i guarantee that no one is sleeping at vse.
  2. i opened both of these pack jobs & the one with the misrouted brake lines. riggerlee- i understand everything you are saying. however.... if we don't hold each other to a higher standard, who will?? i don't expect any of my customers to know ANYTHING about their reserve, how it is packed or to some extent, how it works. that is why they hand it off to us. it is not part of skydiver training to learn about the reserve or how it's packed- just to get it repacked per the rules and how to pull the handle. if my customers are interested, i tell them! if there is a mistake, i tell them. yes, we are all human (even us riggers!
  3. i'll ask again..... i guess sandy reid's book holds no clout, then? and isn't the written exam based on this book? and wasn't it APPROVED by the faa (my copy sure was)? it clearly says in this handbook that a senior rigger can replace main lines. wait, wait.... is this one of these grey areas? also- i'd like to know where the line is drawn (since we're drawing them) between a repair and an alteration... b/c it seems to me that it is a fairly subjective argument here. a patch could effect the airworthiness of a main, yet a sr rigger can patch a canopy. replacing control lines can also- again, senior rigger are qualified. i guess what i'm saying here is that as a group, we need a set of rules to go by. the faa writes these rules. there is a portion of subjectivity in all rules. masterrigger- why so cut and dry on the line set replacement? why are there so many that disagree with you? i'd like to know exactly where is says that a line set replacement can be done only by a master rigger. *i have only been rigging for about 4 yrs, so i'm totally open to being schooled here- but i want to know that what you're saying is FACT, not interpretation. and whether or not there is a contract out for a new manuel, the parachute rigger's handbook is the one being used currently (and much easier to interpret than poynter, imo).
  4. hrm. according to sandy reid's parachute rigger's handbook- which, correct me if i'm wrong, i believe is the reference book now used for the written exam- states that a senior or master rigger can replace a main line set. was that the mistake you were referring to in poynter?
  5. ah so. i knew about the mirage sb, but hadn't seen the recommendations from airtec. the mud is becoming clear, now. now this may not be for this thread, but what about cutters on the bottom of the rsv container (i.e. javelin)? doesn't this present a similar problem? i realize it is much easier to SEE an overly long closing loop on a javelin (or wings, for that matter), but that certainly doesn't prevent it from happening.
  6. hi kelly. i totally understand- you have to be in control of what you can be. i guess what i'm wondering is has there been a problem? are you trying to comply with certain aad recommendations? european regulations? or did you just decide that it's a better place for the cutter? thank you for chiming in, btw.
  7. i have seen some UGLY infinity pack jobs (and others, as i'm sure we all have) and believe you me, the customer is clueless. some riggers don't care about aesthetics, and most customers don't know the difference. it's our job to educate them and each other. i'm still looking for a better answer to the cutter change, however....
  8. i must say... i have to agree with the earlier statement about closing loop length issues. if this is the real issue at hand, why make an arbitrary cutter location change? how about a bulletin stating the importance of the right length loop? i have the utmost faith in velocity sports equipment, but using 'aesthetics' as a reason seems a bit thin to me. help me here, tony.... i just want my customers, my friends, and my own infinity to be as safe as possible. this will (and is) inevitably going to make people question their gear. and for god's sake- follow the manufacturer's recommendations on the loop lengths!
  9. wow. my eyes are full of tears, my heart full of honor. thank you for posting this... band of brothers changed me in a way i can't describe... and gave me a much better understanding of these men and their sacrifice. again, thank you for sharing.
  10. well, considering it rains 18 months out of the year here, it'll prolly be shitty. hehe. if it rains that much there....they why the hell would anyone live there? I bet with all the crappy weather, the women must be pretty big....big and tall and big. yeah, just take a look at your date. =)

  12. ha! my pilot chute is usually falling faster than me, and i have to pull my canopy out by reeling the lines out hand over hand. the ones i've had when i've gone in, i almost always stand up, brush off the dirt, and say, "god... i can't believe i didn't die." i've also dreamed that i'm base jumping off clouds...
  13. thank you for the links! what i was referring to inside the aircraft is the notes on exit seperation(i.e. group size, discipline and ground speed). it may be included in the link, as i haven't opened it yet. thank you for your help. ah... it IS the link you sent!
  14. does anyone have a link/copy of the exit seperation "packet" hanging by manifest at skydive arizona? i've searched a bit on here, but to no avail(and i gave up quickly). also would love the guidelines that are posted in the planes there... thanks for your help! i'm on a mission to squash the "45 degree rule" at my dz!
