The staff & owners are exceedingly professional and friendly. Coach jumps are formalized in writing delineating each point of performance, but most of those "Coach" rated don't charge for more than the slot. A down to earth, easy-going atmosphere that's like a Cessna DZ that just happens to have a turbine. I was welcomed, embraced, introduced around and immediately accepted into doing group jumps. RW'ers & FF'ers get along well, jumping together, filling loads with each other. Give yourself about five jumps to really recognize where the DZ is from altitude. Allow others from the DZ to spot for you for the first few jumps. Everything is flat and green with few landmarks. Fellow skydivers recognize this and point out little things to help you get used to the layout. If you're in the Cleveland/Columbus area, it's a great place to jump even if you have one day.
  7. This will be an interview to interview. The questions will be directed towards those operational/technical/logistical (core) items on your resume that have caught their eye and get you to expand on them. Review your resume and think about how you accomplished those achievements. Good luck. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  12. There's a book of recommendations put out by the USPA that is viewable online called the SIM. It can be found at: http://www.uspa.org/publications/SIM/2006SIM/SIM.htm Within that book of recommendations, it states: Minimum container opening altitudes above the ground for skydivers are: 1. Tandem jumps--4,500 feet AGL 2. All students and A-license holders--3,000 feet AGL 3. B-license holders--2,500 feet AGL 4. C- and D-license holders--2,000 feet AGL Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  13. Scott, I agree 100%. Performance-oriented training should require a focused Train-the-trainer course. An ITC prior to an instructional rating would be extremely beneficial. Keith Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  16. When it comes to inducing pain, please remember these three things; 1) bigger hurts more, 2) turn the voltage up and down quickly, rather than allowing the subject to get accustomed to an ever increasing pain, 3) Stop just after they puke so they don't pass out. 21. We don't want to change the message. We want it to be loud and clear that, "Skydiving is a dangerous activity that can cause serious injury or even death." You really need to understand that a small snag during the opening sequence can cause you to die. Your fault, their fault, nobody's fault; it is the risk you must be willing to sign for; before taking. You don't like the wording... move on. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  22. I jumped at a Cessna DZ where the DZO was the pilot and his rule was - if you farted in the plane, that was all the altitude you got. If that was all the altitutde you got; you had to buy beer for everyone on the load. In a news release; sales of Beeno drastically rose in the region. 23. I'm going to say that it was roughly six years ago that high-performance turns became most popular. At that time, there was no formalized training and the attrition rate then was more than it is now. Some DZ's outlawed them, some (like mine) placed a moratorium on height of intiating a 180 degreee turn at less than 500' (which soon was still too low for the ever newer canopies which could lose 1000' quickly). Adventurous canopy pilots continued, learned and shared. Over the course of time, formalized training replaced the learn as you go approach. As the result of formalized training, placing recommendations on the downsizing progression, etc. - Swooping has dynamically increased, but the number of fatalities has significantly decreased. If we were having this conversation in 2001, IIRC; we would have been talking about 19 of the 26 fatalities that year being the result of low hook turns. There are two things that I've noticed about this sport since my first skydive in 1981. The manufacturer's learn and improve safety and the skydivers learn and improve safety. We will probably never eradicate fatalities, but we are always on a path of continuous improvement to reduce them exponentially each year. As time goes on; you'll hear the saying, "You can do everything right and still die." There's been skydives where everything has gone wrong and people still live. It's just the nature of the sport. We learn, we share and we do our best to keep everyone safe. You've learned early. Take your time, progress slow, keep safety in mind and always ask questions. Blue Skies...
