  1. So, just curious if you are going to do AFF, and if so why? Doing solos gets boring very fast, and you state that you dont care for the culture or about jumping with other skydivers - or am I misinterpreting what you said? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  2. Huh? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  3. Dont ask me, ask Beth. I have nothing to do with it (other than really wanting to go - I had my chance 3 times and didnt have the money and then it was gone )... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  4. Cool, but make sure you join the page and let Beth know.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  5. One reason might be because you are in the air with other jumpers, and without proper training the potential is there for you to take one of us out, so the risk is not just to your life, but to everyone in the air with you. There is a WHOLE lot more than just that reason by the way. I am thinking if you sign up for AFF and then go spinning out of control on your release dive you might change your mind about the necessity of instructors being there to stabilize you... 6. My understanding of it is that they are trying to get 500 to 1000 skydivers to show interest. I am not involved in this in any way, Beth Mahlo is the one trying to get this organized, she was the WFFC Public Relations person. At this point I am thinking they are trying to see if there is enough interest to try and start getting those kind of details together. I am sure you can go to the link I provided, join the Friends of WFFC group and get all the details from Beth herself. At any rate, I never got to attend a WFFC so I personally would love to see it brought back. YMMV.... They are asking for comments on the page at this time, not actual money. 7. Post this question over at BASEjumper.com - they will tell you how! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  8. "If you haven't been doing that you lack the required experience for that down-size, and if you have you lack the judgement." No dog in this hunt for me, but I am curious as to this statement - it seems contradictory. HOW does one get the experience without doing it if doing it shows lack of judgement? Catch 22.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  9. I believe they just started the drive to try and get it going so not sure, but I am assuming () next year and Rantoul IL.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  10. Not at the moment. From what I was told they are trying to see how much interest there is from the community - Beth Mahlo posted there that if 500 skydivers post they are interested it will move forward, but they are going to need 1000 registered to make it happen... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  11. Looks like there is a push to bring the WFFC back. I am guessing they are shooting for next year. Currently taking preregistration, if 1000 skydivers preregister for $100 each they say it will happen. Anyone interested can check this Facebook link for more info: http://www.facebook.com/groups/53655100937/ Hope this isnt a repost... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  12. Last time I checked, TX had plenty of coastline - has something happened I am not aware of?? Also you are going to have to get over being camera shy if you want to skydive - you probably won't find another sport that has as many people wanting to get video of their participation. I can hardly remember the last freefall jump I did that didnt have at least one person wearing a camera. Video is also an excellent tool to be able to see what you are doing in the air. 14. Envelopes on the Table" = Postcards from the Edge? Bring Papa on the Plane = Throw Mama from the Train? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  15. I was passing through Cushman a couple years back and stopped in OSC to get a jump in. Very nice operation and very friendly people. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  16. Sounds like a good jump to me. Sure, you made a couple of mistakes in freefall, but you recognized them, and corrected them. Sounds like you had a good canopy flight, pattern and landing - what's really to complain or feel bad about? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  17. Really? I mean, I understand you can't swoop a round per se, but I was told by an old timer that they used to have injuries from people using similar mechanics to swooping with rounds - that they would "hook" T10s and Piglets in. Apparently there were some serious injuries (dont remember if he said any fatals) from this if it was mistimed. Sorry I can't describe the technique they used - I am sure someone here can chime in... 18. For the record, I understood your point and I agree with it - I was just concerned some newer jumpers might misinterpret what you were saying.
  19. I see what you mean Dave, but think about all the newbies on here who may read what you just posted and think its not "cool" to check their altitude, or think that doing so makes them look stupid to up jumpers. New guys need to check altitude often because they dont have the internal clock or the sight picture to tell them about where they are... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  20. I have never jumped at Lodi, but from what I have gathered from reading here, the outs are less than ideal - I believe it is surrounded by vineyards and a busy highway? I am sure someone who has experience there can correct this info if it wrong.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  21. All true, but the genie is out of the lamp on this one. Despite your good example, many jumpers are going to want "that" experience of flying a 2.0+/and/or/sub-100 canopy. Seems to me that the w/l spread is already too big for everyone's safety... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  22. In all fairness, its a lot easier to upsize once you have had you fill of fun (or broken yourself) under a small super fast canopy. There are many many jumpers out there that want to experience that speed and responsive handling. Unfortunately it seems many of them are not willing to wait until they have the experience to handle them in every situation. Hell, thinking of the Intentional Cutaway thread, I would love to do an intentional cutaway provided I could deploy and fly a sub-100 main just to see what it is like - I have NO interest in trying to land one (nor do I have the skills to do so), and I really dont care about doing an intentional cutaway (I already have 3 "for real" cutaways) - but I would do one just to see what the fuss is about with the small HP canopies (on an altitude hop and pop only, last out so I had time to fly and play and wasnt a danger to anyone else). My point is, its easy to call for upsizing when you have already been on the small canopies and know what its all about. Edit to add I have 20ish jumps on a Vengeance 170 loaded at 1.4, and I still have the canopy but it was fast enough to scare me (and I was smart enough to swap it out until I have more experience) - and I still want to know what the difference is between that and a canopy like a Velo loaded at 2.0+... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  23. Dont know the legal side of it, but there was a guy in (I believe) Lake Wales FL that celebrated his A license by chopping a good main - and got a baglock on his reserve. I am sure someone here can provide the details as I read about it on here - or maybe it was just bullshit. At any rate, why take the chance? Your reserve is your last chance, and they are pretty damn reliable, but they are NOT foolproof... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  24. I think I get that you have an axe to grind with the DZ in question (maybe including the TM), but what the fuck does running auto gas in a jump plane (ethanol free or not) have to do with a fatality that resulted from a 2 out? Might be relevant if there was a crash, but I fail to see the connection in a parachute malfunction - sounds like you are just trying to slag the DZ any way you can..... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
