  1. Its going to suck if she has a reserve ride. No student toggles, no flare toggles, you're flying the "whole" canopy the entire time and the toggle pressure is higher then on even an EZ-384! I have to laugh every time I hear about the high toggle pressure on EZ 384s. I guess I might be giving away my age, but after jumping Pioneer Hi-Lifters, PD 421's & PD 360's I couldn't believe how LIGHT the toggle pressure was on 384's when they came out. And I have landed both the Hi-Lifter reserve & PD 360 reserve with no problem as a 5'8" & 130 to 145 lbs female. Granted I did work out.
  2. I'm trying to gain insight on how other DZs/Instructors present the SIM At School of Human Flight/ Skydive Tallahassee, I quess we're kinda like Skydive Orange- It's like the bible. We present it as the "Text-book" that goes along with your license training & then covers other interesting topics way beyond your initial training. We show them how it works....how each level of the ISP corresponds to the topics on the (4 page) yellow card & where to locate the reading assignments. We also point out to them that they can know what they are in for each time they come to jump by reading up on the next level that they will do. We also actually do the quizzes (although admittedly we are sometimes playing catch up) They are expecting to be quizzed, so they read. The SIM is not an option here. Our young jumpers often return from visits elsewhere very happy to have recieved such well-rounded knowledge & surprised that other "A" license holders cannot spot, nor pack, know nothing about runway directions or aircraft pattern altitudes or three rings, or exit order, or cloud clearance, and don't understand why they with their 30 jumps can't go do a 4 way so-called head-down with 3 other 25-30 jump beginners.
  3. I just heard that hidden in the recently passed Housing "Bail Out" Bill were two more ways that the govt. is eroding our personal liberties. One..that all mortage brokers will now be finger-printed; as if that had anything to do with the current housing crisis. And much worse (at least to me since I'm not a mortage broker) ALL credit card transactions will now be reported to the IRS. WTF does that have to do with anything?
  4. I think this means that you need to be so upset over what just happened that you begin to drink heavily and/or do other things immediately after an incident. Not an original thought. Got the idea from a joke about a priest and an auto accident and a bottle of wine...
  5. The only Brit I ever really knew called them "sooties"
  6. Check this out. Pretty Wild Ride http://www.weather.com/multimedia/videoplayer.html?clip=11820&from=hp_video_5&from=hp_video_5 Holy crap!
  7. I have a group of about 20 jumpers who will attend IF we know far enough in advance that it REALLY is happening. Jet not neccesary.
  8. Saw the same thing at a CA DZ. TM rode up in the co-pilot seat of the Otter. Nobody near the student talked to her including the videographer until just before hook up Funny thing is my friends who jump there regularly said that this TM is always bitching about how he never gets tips...duh.
  9. Hey Guys. Thanks for allowing us to host this Meet. It was very fun to watch, and you were all very polite and pleasant to have around the DZ. Hopefully we can have you back next year
  10. Hey, this is kinda odd too. USPA' license accuracy requirements are in meters not feet. But the altitudes are all represented in feet not meters...
  11. OK we will open at 10 AM Friday so you guys can get started on your practice jumps. If you are staying in Tallahassee, check out our website for driving directions. www.skydivetallahassee.com
  12. The 4th meet of the FLCPA will be Saturday May 17th at Quincy FL aka Skydivetallahasse. We will fly practice jumps on Friday the 16th. from Noon onward. If you have never been, the grass landing area is huge, smooth & level with no taxi-ways. On the day of the meet we will fly 3 Cessna 182's. We have closed the DZ to other business that day (Yes, we turned away many Tandems) to give the competitors total freedom & peace-of-mind in the air. In addition to the regular CPA prizes, the DZO is throwing in a few more less-conventional ones just for fun. Best Hotels are 20 minutes away in Tallahssee at the Intersection of I-10 & North Monroe ST.
  13. We will open at Noon on Friday. Pilot is lined up. There didn't seem to be a huge interest -at least not in this forum- about Friday practice jumps, so we'll probably just fly 1 C-182. Let me know if we need more. BTW. if you've never been here. The landing area is huge (the whole airport if need be) and very nice, very level grass. No taxi-ways.
  14. QuoteHi After some discussion in the Incidents Forum on a recent fatality it got me to thinking, what all can cause a pc in tow, and can't this easily be prevented? I've seen a PC in tow casued by a worn pin -to-bridle attachment point. The pin separated from the bridle & remained throgh the closing loop. Could have been prevented by proper inspection & maintainance
  15. Please tell me where I can get a new CYPRES for a grand, or a dealer price of 850. Since I'm a dealer paying $1300 for them.
  16. Single JM AFF jumps; Student pays $169 Instructor is paid $40.
  17. I thought Quincy switched over to being a tandem factory. You thought wrong. We had 7 students in our groundschool this past Saturday. Of course while they were in groundschool we were flying Tandems :) What we have done is switch back to being primarily, but not exclusively, a School for beginners to get certified.
  18. Ive sold my piss to my brother for years. Damn. I hope he doesn't need a kidney or anything.
  19. School of Human Flight Quincy FL aka Skydive Tallahassee has been using the full ISP categories A-H since shortly after it came out.
  20. Now I ain't saying that 6 grommet sliders cause tension knots, but I will say that after an incredible rash of line-overs on EZ-384s with 6 grommet sliders, when previously we had zero line overs with 4 grommet sliders,(same packers) it was reported to me by several DZs who experienced the same problem that as soon as they replaced their 6 grommet sliders, the problem disappeared. All of our 6 grommet sliders were replaced by PD at no cost & we have had only a single line-over incident since. (over 2000 jumps)
  21. I am not sure if people realise that if you have homeowners insurance, you probably have personal liability insurance along with it. I have heard of cases where it covereed skydiving related incidents. Maybe somebody can verify that. Anyhow, there has got to be other sources of personal liability insurance than USPA. Insurance guys??? DZs could require proof of liability insurance rather than USPA membership.
  22. Thanks to all who replied. I'll probably do it with Bram...too cold up North. I know that it will probably be a very easy add on; but I want to make sure that I do it right & don't want to assume that the things I have heard/ am thinking are correct until verified by someone with real world experience.
  23. This may sound kinda strange, but I am a very experienced USPA AFF I (2000+, former evaluator), Tandem (500+) & S/L Instructor (hundreds of students) & Coach Course Director. And I would like to add an IAD rating to my qualifications. Anybody out there qualified to issue this rating. I could travel to your DZ, I think I should be pretty easy to teach. I am particularly interested in doing this from a C-182. Or if you need a trip to Florida...you could come here & do it. I have Several Tandem I's (no S/L experience but Coach rated & have taught groundschools) who would also like to get IAD rated.
  24. I thought it was much much more dangerous than it turned out to be. Everybody lived the day I made my 1st jump and I thought that was probably not a typical day. I was absolutely astonished to find out how rare fatalities were compared to my impression.
  25. Ha ha... the best (maybe most fucked up ) part is that 1-800-skyride now has what almost amounts to a front page ad on USPA's website. They will never have to relinquish my DZ group membership because it will not be renewed. I think it's time for DZOs to "bail out" on this stupid group membership concept & leave USPA to the individual skydivers as it was intended. Gotta give props where props are due: Ben & Carey. Nicely done! USPA -you suck.
