  1. My suggestion is that unless he is morbidly obese, he's not going to have a problem losing the weight at basic training. Also, have him start doing PT before he gets there, it will make his life a lot better.

There are height/weight requirements. However, at basic training and Advanced Individual Training those standards dont really apply. That is because the higher ups have realized that we have big boys coming into the Army these days.

If you have more questions or concerns, PM me. I have a lot of intimate knowledge of Basic Training.

  2. Are you sure. Nothing on the AP and CNN says he is doing well.

  3. It wasnt just us, we were the instigators. We had the enitre bar joining with us. I guess the worst part was everytime that someone would walk through the door everyone would yell "HEYYYYYYY!!!". The entire bar joined in and even the bartender was ringing the bell. Then some family in the dining room had a little kid with them that started joining in the fun. That is where the complaint started. But, instead of the manager comping the one table he threw us out instead. Our bar tab was in the neighborhood af $350 when we left and we hadn't even sat down for dinner yet. The family that was complaining about us maybe spent $75 for night. After leaving, we went down to Boston's and spent over $1000 for dinner and more drinks. They lost out on a lot of money.

We were there to celebrate the passing of a fellow skydiver.

  4. FUCK BENNIGANS!!

They suck. I hate Bennigans. Myself and 18 other skydivers got kicked out of Bennigans after 1 round at the bar. The reason that we got kicked out? Being too loud in a supposed 'Irish" establishment. Yeah, I know. It is supposed to be a fine dining restaraunt. WTF ever. The food sucks. The atmosphere sucks.

    I agree GOOD RIDDANCE!

  5. So many questions, so little time...

Is there any oil in the water? Water in the oil?

Have you ever used any of that flaked aluminum leak stopper in the radiator before?

When it starts to overheat, if you turn on the heater does the temp drop right back down to normal range or continue to overheat?

Did you mix the coolant that was put into the radiator or was it premixed?

When you replaced the thermostat was it the temp as the one that was removed?

  6. The "Old Lady" isn't the most flattering of terms, I agree. The one that gets me is "The Wife". I have to go call "The Wife". Is there a collective wife? Have I missed my turn? How do I get in touch with "The Wife"?

If you are going to minimilize the relationship at least say "my wife". Then people will know that you are talking about 'your wife'.

Any of these descriptors are just a method to minimalize the relationship. When people are dating they don't refer to "the old ball and chain", "The girlfriend" or "the old lady". They refer to thier significant other as "my girlfriend" or even better "this is the one that I was telling you about".

  7. I sure hope that there isnt more than one incident of a DC-3 doing a snap roll. In that case it was lucky that it snapped to the left and let everyone out the door.

  8. I don't know about a barrel roll, but I have seen video of a 720 degree snap roll on jump run. It was definitely impressive...

  10. I can appreciate a little bit of a belly as long as we arent pushing past Otis Spunkmeyer muffin top. Once it gets to the point of obesity, I cant really get all that excited...if you know what I mean. I like to stay in shape, but I will never have a 6-pack. So, I wont be too offended if she doesnt either.

  11. I ate MREs 3 meals a day for over a month on the ride into Iraq back in 2003. Then at least one a day for the rest of the year. After eating that many, I have developed a certain love for them. I will eat a Beef Stew MRE any time of the day or night. I love that one...

  12. The same thing happened to me about a year ago. Stupid people not securing their loads on the freeway...

It took forever to get the plastic off the driveshaft. It made one hell of a racket when it happened. It also bent the driveshaft a little bit. The thing had a constant vibration after that.

  13. Thats a great plan. However, the half the are talking about is all your money, your property and your dignity. You get to keep whatever is left after that.

  14. That is a huge problem and I agree with Aggie on this one. You should really get the fluid level and the actuator checked at a reputable service facility. If the fluid level stays low for too long it will cause some pretty serious damage to the actuator, which is really expensive to replace.

  15. This guy came through the *facility* today. I cant divulge all the info about it for operational purposes. However, it was by far the funniest thing that has happened lately. I blacked out some portions of the photo for OPSEC reasons. The guy is legit however.

  16. The military map uses the metric system. It is laid out on a Kilometer grid.

The military uses the Kilometer grid so that it can interact with Foreign military units, esp NATO.

It is not just the Kilometer that we use to be able to interact with other countries. We have special adapters for communications, power, vehicles, etc. The HMMWV still uses miles on the odometer.

thus creating the "poor me, victim of society" attitude....

I think that it is less of a "poor me" mentality and more of a "I deserve" mentality. I think that in contemporary times that more people believe that they deserve to be happy, and therefore someone else must provide that happiness to them.

Also, to stay on topic with the thread. Most of the laws are the result of parents who failed to raise their children properly and then expect that the system will do it for them. I remember watching this 20/20 episode years ago about this woman who had buckled her child into the front seat of the car and then ran off the road. Because the child was too small for the restraint, she was ejected from the vehicle and killed. The woman was then leading the conquest to pass laws that required children to be in the back seat in a suitable safety harness. It was her fault that the child was dead because she was fiddling with the radio instead of watching the road. But, instead of accepting the responsibilty for her actions, she blamed the state because there was not a law that required the child to be secured in the back seat.

I remember that when I was growing up riding anywhere and everywhere in the vehicles. We used to also take family trips in the pick-up truck. All 4 of us kids would ride in the back of the pick-up without any restraints. Had my parents ever gotten into a wreck it would probably killed all of us. But that was the decision that they made. We all ended up ok.

I also grew up shooting guns, hunting and all of the things that go along with that. All of the kids in my neighborhood had BB guns and we would go hunting for rabbits or birds together. It taught us a level of responsibility that the kids no longer get to experience.

And dont get me started on the new ZERO-tolerance policies...

Yea, I think that this is heading to SC.

  19. Not to disagree with you too loudly, but I think that when a person goes to a premium restaurant they should get premium service. If the person who is taking the order can't write it down correctly to give to chef, then they should find a new vocation.

I had a terrible experience with the wait staff at Applebee's today. I will not go back to that particular restaurant again. The waitress was horrible and the food came out horrible. All the wait staff's fault. Then, when the waitress that was covering our table was too busy, another waitress delivered the food. She was not any better.

  20. Depending on the location of the tattoo, you could always just use a belt sander. It will probably only hurt as bad as getting the tat in the first place. Healing time is about the same as getting a tat. Apply lotion liberally to the affected area.

I suggest Jack Daniels to help with any pain.

    Any other questions?
