It's not possible to fly the box position as a beginner, as far as I can tell, because they insist on a set speed which is too low to support it. I managed to figure that out after my first flight.

Having previously done 300+ real skydives, I was able to figure that out. After 10+ years out of the sport, I had hoped it might be a sensible route back for me.

I asked them to increase the speed, but they were adamant on their ways. The body position they insist on is too unstable & rigid, especially on a speed that only just supports it.

How can I work with the air speed when it's 30% lower than it should be unless "I" fly - stiff as a board.

It's really hard to judge the situation without video...

As WT Instructor I can say that the "I am a skydiver!" category of WT firsttimers is often the most difficult to deal with))

It's quite often when they start demand to increase the speed while trying to push the air and lift up at the same time which makes them very unstable so:
      - you can't give them more speed coz
     - they can fly normal at setted speed and it's make them even more stiff and unstable

IMHO if there is enough time (more than just 1-2 minutes as firstimer) instructor should be able to deal with it ether slowing down\lay student on the net\relax them or get out and talk etc...
But again people are different so as the situation so without video it's really hard to make a conclusion))

Thanks NWPoul, good to know! How busy does it get there during the day? Do you usually have empty slots or it is pretty booked up?

It's quite variable (for example if there is a camp - almost no free time slots)
So it's make a sense to check exact dates\month if yo want to make a plans
You can write me PM if you are making such a plans so I give you more specific advises for your situation needs

But these super cheap deals are mostly if you fly in the middle of the night, right? I am not sure that flying jetlagged like a badger will be so nice.

It's from 0:00 till 9:00 in FlyStation but there is a possibility to fly at such price (2700eur for 10+1hr and 1350eur for 5hr +15 min) even in a peak time if there is an empty time slot in the bookings at the day of flight)
FYI day time here is 3100eur for 10+1)

  4. I would reccomend to have a cople of suits
If you can't - than full suits, but if you mostly jump in a hot weather, then shorty may be more comfortable (but seriusly man, suits shouldn't be only one;)

regarding WT - they flown often and quite good

  5. Well, take a coach or at least fellow skydiver/bodyflier

    You need some basic advise/correction

after failed attempt at a belly to back transition on Feb 26, 2018 (feet under)

I mark the part where your attempt failed (if it was planned as written - it was fai;ed at the planing phase already)
It should be "upper body over" not "feet under"
and keep control on those legs!

  6. The difference in speed between baggy suit (especially for student suit which often made using rough material) and skinny suit for sure can be more than 5%

If you are planing any close to regular training with 4 way team - there is absolutely no sense to do it in a student suit and even less sense to make such weird modifications)

It is up to tunnel policy.
Some tunnels wants a big part from coach' money, so sometimes instructors working for one tunnel prefer to organize their camp in completely another place...

So in this situation there is a Conflict of Interest indeed)

i jump in the uk and know some people paying tunnel instructors for private tuition.

is it a conflict of interest for employed tunnel instructors to be offering private paid tuition at tunnels?

    1. It's wide common practice AFAIK it can be regulated somewhere (so you pay to manifest, manifest pay some part of it to your coach) but IMO in most WT it's to be deal between customer and coach
2 Conflict of interest means that your personal interest in opposition to the interest of organization you are employed to...
In case of private coaching I see win-win situation, coach money is a good motivation for instructor to find customers who will pay WT for the flight time

I'll love to see instructors chasing firsttimers over 10 meters tunnel

H-mm same as in 4 meters - you walk close to flyer just less stops and changing directions)

Actually nobody needs tunnel this big (maybe except 16-way belly), there is no sport discipline for that,

    I need it!
    Fuck sport! There is fun!

  12. Actually 4 people can lead to drop of actual airspeed if HD speed is close to maximum that particular WT can provide (but in well efficient WT it should not)

But also it's quite common problem when people starting 4 vfs and starting fight for staying in level)

First - try not to fight, relax (more mentally) and let yourself go down, it's often surprisingly let you stay or even go up)

    If you still going down:
Don't try to hold you using your arms- it's most probably will lead to lose your legs and than more you holding/loading your arms - than more you lose your legs (which actually have much more power than arms) and than more you lose lift
Bring you arms close to your chest, so actually your elbows more futher from you than your arms (and while keeping the same surface they will tired much less;) ) and than push your hips forward via pushing your heels backwards/down

A good exercise is to try flying using this technique (elbows forward, arms close to chest, push hips forward, heels backward) looking right above through your balls :)

  13. On your back you more falling than flying: head goes up an foward, back is curved to net, legs are flew up)
You don't need higher airspeed to be comfort on your back at all - just take a breath (open chest give some backsurface to the wind) arch slightly in a lowerback and take your legs under your conrol (at the transition it's even more important so you stop tumbling)
Why drink and drive, if you can smoke and fly?

  14. If you a consider a "Full size" tunnel - I doub't that Ukraine has one
Regarding price I think that here in Russia is better offer:)
(For example in Saint-Petersburg FlyStation its starts from 310 Eur/hr and even low if you buy a 10 hours you'll get 11 for 3100 ))
Regarding accomodation also - it's quite comfort ether in bankhouse right at the WT or nearby hotel in the city
Why drink and drive, if you can smoke and fly?

  15. 1. If you are going up in a knee flying at higher speeds - just bring your knees closer (norrower stance) and kinda stand on your knees

    2. You can fly "Both hands headup" in kneeflying/traditional/etc depend on situation each of body position has pros&cons - it's just instrument so it's better to have em all)

    3. I often guve to students a method for to practice a new position/move/element etc:

If WindTunnel has a difusor and the airspeed decreasing with hights (as it's should beB|)
    - take the bodyposition, wich you are mastered already and wich close to bodyposition wich you want to learn/train
    - set comfort speed
    - fly up in comfort bodyposition above the "terminal point"
    - at the top "zero gravity" poin take the bodyposition/move that you want to train
    - feel it all the way down util you lost balance)
    - repeat
