Sydney is lotsa fun. That's why I've been stuck here for about a year . Lots of time and money? Rent a camper-van and spend three to four months driving around Australia. Thailand is nice, but not world-beating, in my not-so-humble opinion. I know many folk that have spent about three months backpacking around SE Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, etc) and they loved it. Backpacking 'round South America is pretty damn cool too. However, if you want to blow all your money damn quick, you can't really beat a trip to Antarctica
