Personally I think its a great idea to get your FS1 (or at least some basic belly skills) before you start freeflying, this is for a few reasons: It teaches you the basic fundamentals of how the air affects your body and placement in the sky. You learn a lot about how to fly with other people but at slower speeds and generally on one level. Even if all you want to do is become a freeflyer, at some point those belly skills will come in handy, especially for things like hybrids. And lastly, being in the UK and under the BPA rules you have to at least fulfil all of the reuquirements of the FS1 (everything but the 4 way) to get your FF1. This means unless you have the basic skills you wont be allowed (according to the official rules anyway) to freefly with anyone else but a coach in the UK. If the coach wanted him to go away and practice by himself for a while then he would say that and hopefully give him some specifics to work on rather than 'just feel the air'. In my own opinion I think this is one of the major differences between a good freeflyer and a good coach. Just because they are a good freeflyer does not mean they will be a good coach. Some freeflyers are good at certain skills themselves but do not know exactly how they perform these skills and therefore cannot, or find it very difficult to, explain it to someone else. To answer your other question, no I dont think this is normal practice for freefly coaches. Some coaches yes, some coaches no. All have their own style of coaching. You need to find a coach that has a style to suit you or even better will adapt their coaching to suit your needs. Just my opinion, I may be wrong .

Check out the freefall university http://www.freefalluniversity.co.uk They will help you with every part of your AFF trip, from booking flights to helping you find a good place to eat in the evening. Give them a ring or send them an email and you'll finish your AFF in no time. Just my thoughts, have a look at the student comments and you'll see what people have to say about their experience with this school. Hope that helps .

I heard from a few people today that someones helmet came off and has broken the beford wind tunnel in some way? Does anyone know anything about this? Or if it is even true? I hope its not true, it would be a great shame.

Out of interest, why would you rather be in lillo as a town? Why not Ocana/Aranjuez? .

Hey there, ive been to both dz's. lillo is a great place with friendly staff and good instructors, it also has an established reputation. The problem I see with lillo is its surroundings, the town is small and the onsite cafe isn't always open early and doesnt always stay open late. Ocana however is slightly younger but is growing very fast and aranjuez is only 5 minutes drive (they are offering a free shuttle service in the mornings and evenings), aranjuez has clubs, cafes, hotels, supermarkets, everything you need. Ocana has a large hotel cafe and resteraunt onsite which is very nice as well as a large pool. Its definetly woth a visit in my opinion, you wont regret it. As far as the instructors go, yes most of FFU's previous instructors are still at lillo but ocana, as well as dave cowman from FFU, has instructors from lets go skydive which ive heard nothing but positive comments about. They are very professional but fun at the same time. You have nothing to worry about in that respect. Ocana is also a lot closer to madrid than lillo. I would definetly give ocana a go, its going to be the place to be very soon! edited to add: I dont think FFU has got its reputation just because it was at lillo. Its earned a reputation by being a professional, customer focused and trusted AFF school. .

The first time I visited I didnt know where to go so we headed to the town of ocana and after a couple of minutes of looking we found it. The staff were very friendly, they showed us around, told us all about their future plans, and came for a coffee with us. When I was there they had a pilatus porter but was told that the the other porter had just gone for its routine service and that they also have a cessna caravan. There is an amazing onsite hotel, cafe, resteraunt and a huge pool. Very cheap and plenty of room for loads of skydivers. They have the freefall university and lets go skydive running AFF courses and there will hopefully be a new freefly school there soon. This place is growing very quickly. Its not far from madrid and only 5 minutes from aranjuez, which has everything you would need from night clubs, resteraunts hotels and supermarkets. They are starting to run regular shuttle servies from the dropzone to aranjuez so you wont even need to rent a car. The jumps are cheap,€20 but you can get it down to €17 if you do enough jumps. The landing area is huge and owned by the dropzone. The actual layout of the dropzone is compact but has everything you need at the same time. Keep looking out for this place, its gonna keep growing and in my opinion will be one of the best places to jump in europe.

The boogie isn't just this weekend, it starts Saturday (tomorrow and finishes on Sunday 26th June. So if you cant make this weekend then maybe you can pop up during the week or even next weekend. .
