  1. Oh wait...I just read the reserve pulling, I'm gonna lose forty five bucks scenario and it's resulting hypothetical attitudes. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Tom, is that the best hypothetical situation you can come up with to refute my origional post??? Dude, you have no idea how good I am at what I do...You could pull my reserve handle, turn my camera off, unzip my jumpsuit, give me a paper cut and poor lemon juice in it all on jump run, hell, even after the green light's been turned on, and I'd still be on the ground smiling with with a product that that tandem student will cherish. And regardless of your attitude about the whole thing, I just might thank you for making my day interesting. Nothing about that had to do with my arguement about ethics.
  2. My point is that we should call apples "APPLES" and oranges "ORANGES" and not get our categories confused if we are going to keep using the word "ethics." If we want to talk about attitudes and whether or not some of us like/dislike, agree/disagree about them then that's cool and we can stay in a subjective vibe. But if we are going to talk about ethics, we have to be very careful cuz that's a word that demands it's users step to the table, having checked their egos and personal grievances at the door, wearing blindfolds, ready to discuss actions devoid of emotion. I understand that we all are pationately concerned for the sport we love. However, while we are having a passionate reaction to something someone did, let's keep it in the "that guy has a disrespectful attitude and I think his actions are hurting the sport" category. After we count to ten, then let's discuss whether those actions were ethical/unethical. Not gonna debate hypothetical situations about wierd reserve handles being pulled. I just want the word "ethical" to be used a little more sparingly before it looses it's significance. OR, I'd like to see it used correctly, accross the board. Cuz then, I think we might have to put a few more jumpers in the naughty boy corner cuz felix and cliff huckstable are gett'n a little lonely in there. "My actions are driven by my attitudes" Nope, my actions are driven by my hungers. My hungers are constent, my attitudes are fleeting.
  3. Since my antics last night didn't get me banned, I still have the freedom to speak my mind here. Whether you read it, or care is actually irrevelant. Obviously everybody has an opinion about the sport, here's mine...and it won't be an allegory about monkeys. I did my first base jump at 18 in 1989. The only reason that matters is because it has allowed me to watch the progression of the sport from that moment until now. In the last 16 years, a ton of stuff has changed, and I'm not talking about gear. I'm sure there has always been a certain level expectation placed on jmpers by fellow jumpers, but what I see today is, in my opinion, bordering on lunacy. What's worse is that it's being flaunted as "ethics." I just read in another thread that one jumper's "ethics" are judged more on his "attitude" than his "actions." What the flip? I mean seriously, what does that mean? An action is either ethical or it's not. You're attitude while commiting murder has nothing to do with the act itself. It appears that some jumpers are being accused of having flagrant, "look at me" attitudes, and therefore their actions are rubbing people the wrong way. That's fine, but when you accuse them of being "unethical" while at the same time putting other jumpers up on pedistals who are just as high profile but apperently don't actually use the words "hey look at me," you are no longer making any sense at at all. And that's when people like me just don't care what you say. I edited all the POTATO BRIDGE rail jumps out of RADIX because in the end there were some good, reasonable arguments that pursuaded me to do so. Incidentally, in the same year continuum II came out and I believe I saw a rail jump in that video, who cares. This year it appears that jumps from the rail aren't as big of an issue...things change, nothing is written in stone. It all comes to this (AS I SEE IT): Some jumpers don't like other jumpers attitudes and instead of just saying that (because that wouldn't really do anything), those offended people are making accusations about "ethics." If a bunch of offended people all get together and make a unified accusation, some people might buy it and make similar accusations. Almost like Monkeys that have haven't ever been sprayed with water yet still try to keep other hungry Monkeys from eating. And we all know that ethics is always dictated by the majority. But people like me have been here before most of you, and me not caring what you think, doesn't make me unethical, it doesn't make me anything. It just means that I don't care what you think. Remember, I'm the guy who taught a sixteen year old girl how to BASE jump before she ever did a a tandem even. Now she's got 13 base jumps and 42 skydives. Who cares? Not me. If anyone has an issue with me, or my very good friends, all I as k is that you make sense, otherwise we'll never get anywhere.

    just checking

Darn it! I can still post. I'm so gonna kill myself.
  5. About thirty million miles per hour which is why some people might have had a hard time docking. The industry standard is about 25 million mph; not sure what that equates to in kph.
  6. Somewhere in the BASE ZONE there was a discussion about that bicycle thing. I can't remember how it it ended. As I recall noone produced any evidence of Parachute/bike landing evidence that would make me retract my claim that Miles was the first to land it. If proof that I'm wrong ever surfaces, I'll re-edit the video. Glad you like some of those shots on there though. Thanks
  7. I updated the skydiving page of my website: www.jimmyhalliday.com Click on the first six thumbnails to see some more shots. They may not have broken the record, but those were some sick jumps. -jimmy
  8. it's real close, but look at the outside stingers...
  9. Although it didn't build to 100%, I still think this is a nice shot over the desert of the UAE. -jimmy
  10. Everyone is invited to join the group I started: Keen 'n Able. We got skydivers, BASE jumpers, aerobatic pilots, rock climbers...you name it. the group photo album is sick. Check it out, join, and post some rad shots. Later tody, I'll be posting the shots I took of the freefly record attempts in Abu Dhabi. http://groups.myspace.com/keennable later
  11. Oh, did I say Igot that gash on a BASE jump? No, that's just what I told the doctor when he was stitching me up. I thought that sounded cooler than "I was drunk and trying to impress a girl by breaking a corona bottle over my head." I hope you guys aren't mad I lied. But seriously, what kind of helmet could produce that ind of cut? That's even more unlikely than the bungee cords on your shoes getting caught up in risers, or the hood of your sweatshirt snagging somthing.
  12. Hey Skin! Bravo on the response to me. See I knew you didn't REALLY care. THat's all I wanted to hear. It just sounded like you were being protective of that antenna for a second...my bad. You were being ironical. I get it now. Anyway, if you have the 911 call as a ringtone for your cell phone, then you will absolutely love the tribute to Jon Agnos "Keen 'n Unable" that I did. Seriously, find a way to check it out. If you don't laugh really, really hard, I'll give you $25. Gotta go, at the holiday boogie in Arizona right now with a really hot girl. WHich begs the question, why am I on the computer right now. ANyway, sorry for taking you literaly, but in my defense, I didn't think that you thought the antenna actually caught on fire. Happy New years BIATCH, jimmy
  13. You guys think it's funny but one time, on a base jump, I used the wrong helmet.
  14. regular corn? or that yummy kettle corn stuff with twice the calories?
  15. Skin, are you saying that Jon Agnos is a two jump wonder? The jump in question was his 90th. And are you also saying that this is your local object? I can see it from where I live, and I don't think you and I are neighbors. And are you also saying it's burned? What's your definition of burned? Reliable sources have told me about some very low stress, enjoyable jumps done there recently. You can hate the guy and berate him publicly for his mistakes, but don't do it on behalf of "locals" or because you think a site's been burned. Just do it cuz that's how you are.
  16. There was a whole troupe of those Russian kids in the circus when I worked for Ringling Bros. THey got paid 125 dollars a week and a bottle of Vodka (big bottle). They're not indistructible either. Couple times a month they had to trade some injured Russian kids in for some new ones. Compared to what I've seen, I give that kid in the video a B+.
  17. Jt's got a whole section. It ends with his really nice track. But first it's got him tracking off some big stuff in Italy, then switzerland, then some cool ski stuff (150 ft. gainer no rig), then back home. Anyway, that shot's in his section.
  18. http://www.myspace.com/jimmyhalliday I put the first section of Keen 'n Able up on my myspace space. All the pre-ordered videos FINALLY went out today. The first section is just a drop in the bucket of the whole video. Only ask to be my friend if you're gonna be nice. -jimmy
  19. I'll say this once here, and I'll be brief. When you see the "tribute to Jon Agnos" in my video which will be ready to ship hopefully earlier but no later than Dec. 5, just know that it's meant in fun. I have no hard fealings toward Jon. I like the "guy." If it were me, or any one of us, which it easily could have been, I would have made the same segment. It's funny. Jon, I got your phone mesage, and let me say here; Your post was well said and enough. I'll jump with you on your hundredth, just like we talked about. Those who post here represent a small fraction of our sport and even if they represented 99.99% of it I'd still make a jump with you on your 100th jump. That was pretty funny dude. Way funnier than getting hurt. And guess what, when I was talking to the sherrifs while they were getting you down, they said that they DID NOT CARE that we jump it. Which means they have known for a long time that we are jumping it but have chosen not to do anything about it...big shock. You did not burn the sight. They have known that we have been jumping it ever since Carl Boenish and his crew made broad daylight jumps off it "back in the day." Like you said, we might try to find a different place to park for a while... I'll stop now cuz I promised to be brief. But let me say one more thing specificaly to those who are reading this and are not base jumpers and are therefore probably not posting here...not all base jumpers are...(you fill in the blank). By the way, I have 65 jumps off this particular object. Can any of those who have posted here match that? just curious
  20. No doubt it was a good jump and I don't care where you're from. I am glad though that it was a local that did it at our local rock. But let me say this...If you're sayng it was an "average" jump for a Norgie or an aussie than I'm not so sure you guys know what your talking about. And I'm kidding cuz I know yuri knows what he's talking about. But seriously, it was on par with the best jumps done by the best European trackers. 29 seconds, fifteen of which were spent at a consistent 300-400 ft. (meters?) above that tallis. Lots of people have talked about doing it, and many of those talking could do it. But guess what? JT did it, has anyone else? And oh yeah, if you think you can do it without tracking "garb" do it with the garb first. This is a little different than Norway.
  21. Yesterday this guy JT holmes outracked the tallis of a very big wall in Northern California with Phoenix pants and a ski jacket. I got a nice shot of it and I was thinking about putting it up on the internet. But then I thought, why not just wait and put it in Keen 'N Able. It'll be done by the end of November. Congrats jt, that was hands down one of the most amazing things I've ever seen a human being do. edit to remove flame bait ~TA

    Pin Rigs Suck!

Hey Nick, It's gonna be fun for us to agree on something. It looks like we both have enough exprience to charish the the simplicity/purity of the BASE rig in contrast to the skydiving rig. This post got started not because I was out in the "field" without a pull up cord, but because I was in my apartment packing up, and I realized at the last moment that all my pull up cords were at the DZ. It took me fifteen minutes to pack my rig and fifteen minutes to find a way to close it. Which left me reminiscing about my old Vision container. Not that I would go back to purchasing velcro rigs, but I never had to worry about my velcro Vision. And believe me, I've been on my back on plently of terminal BASE jumps. After closing, I used to pick up my vision by the shrivel flap and twirl it around in circles. That was my terminal "gear check." And for low delays I would just peel the velcro a bit around the edges. But whatever. No doubt pin rigs look cooler once they're closed, and that is beyond a doubt the key decision when purchasing a rig: which looks coolest at the exit point, cuz they all work just fine. late, jimmy p.s. Nick, next time you're in CA, I'd love to make a jump with you off the antenna formerly known as "cadillac."
  23. Hey you guys, that was rad this morning! Just so everyone knows...Swedes definitely know how to climb antennas; they all beat me up. But they must be more familiar with the lower variety. Which of you was it that butchered the delay? Here's a new formula: for every half hour that you climb, take at least three seconds. That means a 1 1/2 hour climb equals a nine second delay. Good on you though for charging up that thing. It's not an easy task to ciimb the world's 4th tallest man made structure. Can I jump with you guys next time I'm in Sweden? late, jimmy

    Pin Rigs Suck!

HHHmm. Keeping a pull up cord with the rig. You guys are wicked smart. I'm gonna do that from now on, but those bastards are pretty difficult for numbskulls like to keep track of. I'm the "hey could I use that pull up cord?" guy that gets really annoying. Velcro rigs are so damn simple, I still like 'em. I'm down to be a four way videographer whenever a team gets put together. I've been getting dizzy filming these twisty-flippy guys lately.

    Pin Rigs Suck!

Have you ever tried to close a rig when you don't have a pull up cord? The first one's easy, then you pop that one trying to get the second one, then you wrestle the flaps as closed as they can get, then the little closing loops play hide and seek, then you realize all the laces in every pair of shoes you own are gone, then you try rolling up strips of duct tape... Finaly I used one of the cords from a multi bridle off another canopy (hot tip) and all that took way longer than closing the vision I used to have. I miss that rig. I mean seriously! Yonkels!
