  1. The format sounds just like the Eloy freefly money meet. Maybe reach out to one of the Eloy locals to get a breakdown of how they do it, I think they've been running them for 10 years.
  2. Have you seen the news in the last 2 days? Stockmarkets worldwide affected by the current crisis in Dubai? A Dubai state subsidiary called Dubai World has liabilities of £36 billion, it has a subsidiary called Nakheel that built the Palm Islands development (you know the 'landing area' - the development/state the meet was supposed to promote). Dubai is now so fucked it is hoping a sister Emirate state (Abu Dhabi) will bail it out. Regardless of the fact that this event would cost them peanuts to host I doubt they'd continue with it from a PR point of view (Dubai's total debt is £48 billion). The property market crashed in Dubai (down 40% this year). Edited : => It is just my opinion that the meet won't go ahead and of course I could be wrong (again, just ask Tom B).
  3. Funny you should say that, because the guy in the vid you chose to post had some issues subsequently handling that very canopy : Taken from his comments on this vid : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctvTcMyQsRc&feature=related
  4. Tempo? Seriously? I have 2 reserve rides on a Tempo '150 and one on an Optimum '143. I've also made 5 jumps with a demo Optimum '143 hooked up as main. I would say forget about comparing pack volumes and get the better reserve - which between the two from my experience is the Optimum. Saving some money to buy an out of production reserve now is not a good idea. Will
  5. That is right because belly flyers also competed in FS at the nationals for the first time last year, your choice of comparison is not convincing. VFS is a new discipline, it is in its infancy. Right now that infant gets its nappies changed at Eloy. Who knows, once it grows a bit more it might decide to call somewhere in Europe home.
  6. 2008 Nationals held in Eloy : lots of seriously skilled local teams besides Arsenal (Drive, Dysfunction, Gabe & JDog's team [sorry can't remember their name]) entered 2009 nationals in Spaceland : how many local Spaceland VFS teams entered? Eloy has a large concentration of the world's best flyers but most of them are working skydivers and can't afford to travel to compete. I reckon hold an annual VFS money meet in Eloy, it'll overshadow the VFS nationals entirely. Judging the state of freeflying by attendance at a national meet that moves around is not really fair. Fact is right now Eloy is the world capital of VFS.
  7. Totally agree (it hurts!). 14' tunnel at $950/hr coaching included with any of those names above plus many more to choose from. For your first couple hours you don't need a big name coaching you which can save a bit.
  8. Well said. My progressions is similar to yours, slow but steady and nailing the fundamentals before moving on. I got a bit frustrated at first, seemed like I was the slowest learner to get to HD in the tunnel, but now I get a deep satisfaction from having learnt all the basic positions and transitions properly. This bears repeating : Money matters, but it takes perseverance too.
  9. It was deployed, it didn't have time to inflate. Not as bad as what the papers came up with though.
  10. Someone wired up the flux capacitor wrong.
  11. Congrats Ian (and everybody else in the final 15), very cool! I can picture Simon Cowell sitting next to the swoop pond at the X-Factor Project tryouts critiquing every landing 'I've seen grannies in motorized chairs in Walmart turn smoother than that!'

    Fast sitfly

'spending a lot of jumps in figuring out how to do'. That is why I freefly, trying different things and learning to fly my body. The next thing never gets easier and that is the best part! You have learnt so much about flying head up at high speeds, if you were heavier and could just fly a fast sit would you have tried all this experimenting and learnt so much?

    Atmonauti jump

Hey, I had a look at your gallery, some really nice pics - you are a talented photographer. About the jump, you didn't appear to be holding a heading very well and were veering up the jump run at one stage (hence the hand signals). Maybe practice regular tracking a bit more. If you nail the basics first before you know it we will be seeing some awesome skydiving pics taken by you.
  14. Cool, I see it now. What was up with the jumper on the right? Stalling out a gainer or just really head high?
  15. Looks like a multi on that bridle to me, lucky his foot didn't snag it. Low man does the count, better if other jumpers are late than early.
  16. Hey Erk, tell him I said "Up my nose!!!!!". He'll remember.
  17. Problem with the trackball is that it collects dirt (just like an old rollerball mouse). Unlike the old rollerball mouse it is not a simple task to take it apart to clean the contact surfaces - trust me I spent quite a bit of (work) time taking one apart. I support about 60 users using blackberries with trackballs (8800s and 8310/curve) and am returning on average about two devices per month because the trackballs become unresponsive. The one nice touch is if you are upgrading from an 8700 to a Curve is that they use the same battery - great to have spares and eco friendly too. The Bold is worth waiting for (save you having to carry an ipod for music and movies), it would just be nice if they can make the trackball a little more robust.
  18. Yes, proposed site is next to the Chill Factor indoor ski centre off Trafford Way. Don't know if their planning permission has gone through yet.
  19. The passenger in that vid is Vince off Babylon, I think he knows who to trust.
  20. Nice vid here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwDK_gdl984
  21. Is that him on the cover of the latest Parachutist? Hanging on a hybrid with Eli Thompson hanging off him.
  22. Maybe they are hiring, you should move back there and be first in line. Karen can stay in Az.
