  1. If you go to this site http://www.bushwings.com/frontpag.html there are more of his flying stories...although he may have made some jumps he was foremost a pilot and not a jumper so yeah he has no knowledge of what the specifics of the parachutes he jumped or saw other people jump.
  2. A fun story by a jump pilot flying for Perry Stevens circa 1978. I believe "Crazy Jack" in the story was Steve Haley and "Snortin Norton" was Robert Thomas aka Norton an Oakland California Hells Angel. Steve Haley told me Norton used to say "hey jack" when addressing him. Norton later became an aerobatic pilot and rumored to be an attorney. Norton went missing while ferrying a Beech 18 over the Pacific Ocean and was never heard from again. http://www.bushwings.com/texts/alaska.html

  5. That "Good Stuff" video brings back some crazy memories...I was in one of those cars...cool times and good friends.
  6. Fire streaming wingsuiters from Red Bull into down town L.A. looked cool...someone had an epic line twist...okay..who done it...John...Mike? https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Meteor-Like-Object-Over-Downtown-LA-Red-Bull-Super-Moon-507448951.html
  7. It is a total!...HOLY CRAP...that's when you elbow the shit out of the reserve container. I wonder if that would've released the PC but at 750' not enough time. I'm not a rigger but have 12 of my own reserve packs logged under a riggers supervision and one save...by the way...the main was still in the container. I would never pack the PC like that. Holy Shit! hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  8. For what it's worth... Dust devils occur with high adiabatic lapse rates...meaning the temperature decreases with increasing rise in altitude. The dust devil starts life as a bubble of heated air attached to the ground with surface tension similar to a bubble on the bottom of a pan of boiling water only much bigger called a "thermal". These bubbles will continue to grow until the surface tension is overcome by its buoyancy or until its surface tension is disturbed by a gust of wind, someone walking into it, a rabbit hopping into it or say a parachute on short final. Only after breaking free of the ground will it start to spin...normally counter clockwise as it is a low pressure area as the air rushes in to replace the rising thermal but can spin either direction. I have witnessed some huge dust devils with the center having numerous counter spinning cores. This landing looks like the right edge of the canopy caught the edge of a thermal as the thermal was lifting off the ground. It's pretty hard to tell from the video where the turbulence originated. Thermals and dust devils with no debris or dust I call "blue devils" these are the most dangerous because they are invisible. On days with a high lapse rate these blue devils cannot be seen and can bite you! eta: As pointed out in the above posts, dust devils are nothing to fuck around with while in the air flying anything low to the ground! hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  9. I just got an email from Mr Larry...who would even reply to that? not me...he's a Nigerian scammer for sure. hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  10. Robin came to Eloy winter circa 97' can't remember exactly but the local SPCA made him stop taking his dog after complaints from whuffos... when his dog saw him in the air on final Pud would dash into the landing area barking like crazy to greet Robin. Robin went to Chicago for the summer and a few weeks later dropped a toggle while flaring...thankfully without his dog... RIP...Robin... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=54055; ETA:I guess that's Pudd... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  11. just happened to see this...yes...don't order from them...you don't get an email conformation and I called the store where my item was shipped...it had been there for a couple of weeks with no notification... no wonder they're bankrupt... yeah on dorkzone... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan

  13. I saw it yesterday...and got shushed for discussing the wingsuit shots with my girlfriend...guess the dialog was hard to hear...ha ha... yeah, action flick...also funny seeing Jeb Corliss in the party scene... Great scenery from around the world and... glad to see my old friends from the Eloy days are getting work... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  14. Just got back from watching...don't know the results...it was not publicized... Looked pretty cool...got to see some old friends... oh yeah...Nor Cal Skydiving... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  15. I had the pleasure of jumping at Sheridan one week in the early 90's...doing some of my first tandem videos...I remember the locals saying..."look, they're always in the frame" I was like what?? Ted was super cool...I know all the stories and some of the facts...but if you ever met Ted face to face you would know that he was a pretty cool dude. 17. I know his real name and the name of his dental practice in NJ...but he posted here with the fake name "Eugene Gore" this is not his real name. I paid to have the rig sent back seeing how the Lodi DZ would be liable because they did the escrow. This guy is a douchebag... Oh...by the way "Eugene" I hope you're reading this...you probably run your dental practice like you run your gear sales... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  18. I emailed him and told him his paper weight that looked like a rig was being shipped back insured... his reply:I don't understand... I sent him this link and his ad was down immediately...and all signs of him on dizzy... Don't try and sell shitty gear that you stored in the gutter...advertized as in great condition... I made you a reasonable offer and when I posted this you ran away and hid...now you know that rig is non-airworthy and you are liable for trying to sell an unserviceable life saving device. hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  19. So I'm looking for a used rig...I respond to... http://www.dropzone.com/classifieds/Detailed/Containers/Mirage_G3__176960.html advertised as in great condition...and send him a $100 to ship the container and reserve to Lodi to have Pete Swan do a pre-sale inspection... I try the rig on it fits great...Pete starts looking it over...the container looks good for 400 jumps but needs washing...then starts inspecting the harness...the hip rings are all rusted as well as the friction keepers on the leg straps with rust permeation into the webbing... I take pictures and send them to the seller and also to Mirage to ask them for their repair recommendation... Mirage says complete harness replacement...yeah that's what Pete said...the seller demands the rig back and won't even talk about my offer to offset the damaged hardware...it sat in water at some point...the hardware is fairly pitted and will eat right through that webbing... Buyer beware...have any rig you buy thoroughly inspected... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  20. I was jumping camera wings...when I went to pull I came up on my knees for some reason...my right wing inverted so hard it broke the buckle...suddenly no right wing. I then rolled right into an unintentional barrel roll...because the left wing was still inflated. Still having the pilot chute in my right hand I rolled the bridle completely around me and the bridle was half hitched around my wrist. It all happened in an instant...my first thought looking at the bridle half hitched around my wrist was... "so this is how I'm gonna die". I don't know where the video is but It shows my left hand sweep the bridle off my wrist then the opening shock from unrolling me is so violent that the video heads come off the tape(ya I know it was a while ago)so there is a few seconds of just blue...unrecorded tape...then the parachute just looks normal. April fools day 1996 ? anyway they crashed the 182 10 minutes later and we were all drinking beer by 11:00am. nobody was hurt just collapsed the nose gear...bad day at the DZ or good depending on how you look at shit like that. hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  21. I shot my very first professional tandem video at Ralph's place many years ago in the mid 90's. Then in 2001 I was racing cars in Lakeport Ca. when walking through the pits I see an attractive gal wearing an Eagle Creek Skydiving shirt. She was with a team racing in the modified class. I asked her where she got the shirt and she said from her dad Ralph he ran a dropzone in Oregon. I introduced myself and told her I new her dad and had jumped there. I'll bet she's the owner of record. I can't recall her name... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  22. No...my Dad is Cooper...I can put him in a chute... Hey, around here you just never know... hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  23. I'm probably the only one to look for DB Cooper in the Picacho Mountains...but you never know where you might find him...certainly not here. attached: pic and map of the Picacho range...location...directly north across I-10 from Picacho Peak. hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  24. georger... I have actually seen a jackelope. I was boony tromping one night deep into the Picacho mountains in Arizona in my old desert runner...Datsun 1200...of course I was looking for DB Cooper...I saw 2 Jack rabbits that I mistook for deer. They were loping across the dirt road in my headlights. These things were about 3 feet tall loping on all fours with ears 12 inches long. Seriously...the next day I asked our DZ building contractor who grew up there about them. He told me I was real lucky to have seen them and yes they did exist up in those mountains. My friend who was with me called them "jumbo jacks". True story. hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  25. Actually...get that info public...you will be safer...then they will have to hide...they need to get to you before you talk...not after. hangdiver "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
