  1. i was just being the devil's advocate... i think it's a great idea and its better than doing nothing... i'd be right there with you
  2. ...until they arrest multiple people and confiscate their gear for 'aiding/conspiracy to commit illegal aerial delivery'
  3. you'd probably have better luck with a tranquilizer gun. Just put any rangers who try to get you to sleep, and you'll be out of there before they all wake up. piece of cake.
  4. forgive me if i'm missing something, but i'm curious... If you are flying at two different angles on two different legs, then you are flying at two different angles relative to the wind as well, right? so: G1 = A + (some fraction of) W and G2 = A + (some other fraction of) W W can't just cancel out unless they are the same. To do that, you'd still need to know the wind's direction and plan the jump accordingly. Disclaimer: I didn't have time to look at all the equations you mentioned, and maybe you somehow accounted for this (maybe thats what the trig functions are in there for), but it just doesn't seem quite right to me. Please elaborate :) -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving

  8. A few weeks ago, I was actually able to achieve level flight for at least 10 seconds. No hanwags, no base rig... Unfortunately, my performance dropped considerably once I left the plane -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving

  11. actually, you could self-PCA if you had the bridle routed behind a railing or something and held onto the PC. That just begs for disaster though... but i bet it would work (who wants to try first? anyone? ) -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." 12. haha that sounds very similar to my first 'hike-out' experience. Except i was jumping solo in the middle of december and had just taken a waist-deep water landing, and my shoes were iced-over. It was 17 degrees outside with a very cold wind. I spent 20 minutes hanging from a rock with my slippery, iced gloves above that tree, thinking "so... i wonder how long it will take for somebody to find my broken corpse?" I finally reached the top, and as i peeked over the stone wall, i saw a very welcome sight... a norwegian base jumper whom I had never met... and he had a car (heres some video of that jump) edit: and did i learn my lesson? noooo... 3 jumps later (that night), I did a two-way with him and ended up landing in the water yet again... but at least i was getting some great slider-up packing practice -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." 13. Never rush a packjob, it is not worth it!!!! you imbeciles! On the other hand, most of mine are from drunk/hungover packjobs (or when i give a whuffo $3 to just stuff the tarp in the backpack for me while i grab another cold one) -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." 17. that's true for low-level emmission stuff like cell sites, but i'm pretty sure that standing right under a candlestick on a radio or tv broadcast tower would be a bit worse than your cell phone. Unless cell phones are able to melt RF suits Either way, though, I wouldnt worry about using an RF meter. They are expensive as all hell, and your not really spending much time up there compared to tower workers. If your 3-rings or tooth fillings get hot, then just gtfo pronto -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving

  19. i had the d-ring handle fall out of the pocket on a hard/line-twistie opening on one of my first birdman jumps. i was amazed at how hard it was to get it back into the pocket while my harness was fully loaded... it took probably 20 seconds of messing with it! the velcro pouch was just pinched shut. i considered just holding the handle in my mouth for a moment and then realized that that would be a pretty darwinian maneuver as my reserve hadn't actually been activated (yet) -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." 20. That sounds almost identical to my first chop! Mine was on my 35th jump. I opened up in a turn, looked up and put my right hand in my right toggle, then reached for the left and it wasnt there. Then my vision zoomed in (like in the cartoons) to my slider, which was about 1/2-2/3 of the way down with my toggle caught in a grommet. Chop, Pull reserve, Count to 5, Poof new canopy. Round canopy (lo-po 26'). Landed between powerlines and trees exactly where i decided to land at 1500' when i realized i wouldnt make it back. If your brake fired and the toggle actually got sucked through the grommet, you might want to take a look at that system and figure out why it happened and find a way to avoid it in the future. Mine occured on a 23-year-old vector 1, with large keeper rings. I was using the more modern standard-sized toggles, which meant that if i didnt center the top of the toggle over the ring when packing (or if it moved during the opening), it could get sucked through. Eventually, it did. I then got bigger, fatter toggles that dont fit through the ring, and it never happened again. You definitely made the right decision... sure, it may have been landable on rear risers. But, like me, you didn't feel comfortable attempting that and opted for the reserve, and walked away. Kudos
  21. all you need is a flying microwave, flying tv, flying la-z-boy and a flying remote and your all set
  22. if its easy to accidentally land out on the beach, then i really hope you don't land out about a half mile on the wrong side of the beach someday really tho, landing out isnt bad unless you have shitloads of trees, lots of powerlines, and a high concentration of crocodile farms nearby. It would also suck to land in the middle of a maximum-security prison with a pink jumpwingsuit and canopy... not that i have either of those.... (no, really.. i dont) edit: fixed a dumb mistake... this is the wingsuit forum after all... -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear."
