  2. 2 weeks ago i managed to land off twice in one weekend... on the shoulder of a highway on one jump (got a ride back to the dz), then the next day on my pre-second jump on a higher wingloading, I landed in a small fenced-in area where i had to dodge a limo, go under/to the side of a man-bucket, and stay in a 10-15' lane next to the barbed-wire fence... Then came the 2 big german shepherds with their owner not too far behind...
  3. ...and about 22% of those fatalities have been in our state, which is home to only about 5 DZ's (that I know of) I say this is a bad year for ohio... Hopefully it's just an anomaly... -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving
  4. Woohoo!!! HUGE congrats becca!!!
  5. can anybody translate that article or provide more details?
  6. Static line is a ton of fun. It's how I started to skydive, and I highly recommend it. I actually recommend it more than Tandem or AFF progression, because it is cheaper to start out, you get more initial jumps for less money, and you start out focusing on canopy control before having to deal with learning to fly your body in freefall. You also get to look forward to making the freefall jumps . It's a great method, and its a shame that many dropzones don't teach it anymore
  7. just about as far as you'd get without a wingsuit... what you really need is to be launched from a cannon... then you'd get some mad distance! -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving
  8. about half my wingsuit jumps are from 182's or 206's. In the 182, i just hop out of the door and fly the exit while opening my wings. in the 206, i'd sit in the door with my feet out/legwing collapsed and roll out, typically ending up on my back flying with the plane before turning to follow the pattern... really nice visual :) a buddy and i managed to do a few successful rodeo exits from the 182

  12. but then again, its not really a double pendulum system until linestretch, is it? -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving
  13. this has probably been thought of already, and i'm willing to bet that there's a good reason for this not being done, but i'm bored so here goes anyway: To decrease/eliminate PC hesitations, what about introducing some kind of rigidity or memory to the design? for example, a thin, flat, flexible length of plastic sewn into each radial reinforcing tape? I'm talking only a slight amount of stiffness, so upon extraction the PC spreads open a little bit rather than staying stuck together until the airflow pulls it apart? But not stiff enough to cause bridle entanglement issues. Has anyone tried this, and if so, what problems did you run into? -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving
  14. I was thinking the same thing but just didn't speak up... if your friend needs you to 'plan everything out', do they really have the knowledge/experience required to safely make the jump? With 2 jumps, do you? (for all I know, maybe you do, just trying to make you think) let's see how long we can keep the List at 100... -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." 15. I'm not sure how it is with the standard/large 3-rings that are used in base, but with the mini-rings on most skydiving rigs, the loop must be a certain length... too tight or too loose and the system will be weaker. You might want to look into that before tying anything to your 3-rings, lest you make it too tight. Not that i'm an expert or anything, just my 2 pesos -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving
  16. On skydivingmovies.com a long time ago, at the end of a video (i think southside base something?) there was a set of risers with a set of red handles above the cutaway system on each riser with additional cables feeding backwards through the loop. That seems like a really good idea, since you have to pull the cutaway handle AND those red handles to actually release a riser (assuming nothing breaks) The only problem is, you might confuse them for your toggles if you have a funky opening with linetwists at night and you're groping for your toggles while staring down a big steel monster that's about to chew you up and spit you out... edit: found the video -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." helmets????

nice, the wiki is back up... and with new info
  18. What's the point of doing this anyway? I mean, suppose you do manage to make a non-metallic rig, and you try to get past security with it with intent to jump it. Its hard to get through a metal detector with balls of steel ...i crack myself up (disclaimer: its 3:54am and i have a deadline in 2:06 hours... and i'm running on way too much coffee for my own good) -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." 22. I never received a confirmation email after my order on the 1st. Has anybody else gotten theirs? I'm pretty sure that I got in the first group, but I'd be pissed if somehow my order got messed up and never went through... (jason if you have time to check, my email addy is brett at clearviewstudios dot net) see y'all at the bridge -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." 23. The biggest thing that snopes fails to mention is that at the time of that photo, do you think the elephant would still be squatting over his dung pile? -Ghetto "The reason death cannot frighten me, is because life has cured me of fear." Web Design Cleveland Skydiving
  24. I never got the email either. I finished checkout at about 2:03 (thats right bitches), and the email address was correct, but at the top of the invoice page there was a string of SMTP errors. Email = brett (at) clearviewstudios (dot) net Thx
