I've use Hosting Matters for a number of years now. They're a bit more expensive than places like GoDaddy but their service is top-notch. (I've heard GoDaddy's service is top-notch actually too, but I ran a site for a little while off of them, but overall I'm quite happy with HM). As for preventing getting hacked you need to make sure the scripts you have on the site are properly written and secure. I'm a programmer but not a security expert. I can point you in the right direction, but if it's going to be a major site, you'd want to talk to someone who knows more. Can you find out how they got in? If it was through a flaw with the hosting provider, definitely switch. As a minimum, even if the provider, said sorry, they should be able to provide a backup from a few days before. I would fully expect that any responsible gun owner (ie: anyone who has taken a CCW course) would know far better than to leave a firearm accessible to roommates. The person who introduced me to guns was someone most people would think should never have access to a gun. Often loaded and on drugs. However, he never even so much brought out his gun while he was loaded. It was always locked up and away. No one ever had access to them, and most importantly he always gave every firearm the respect it was due. My understanding is that those who have carry permits understand the dangers of guns, and just as much, especially since their guns are most likely registered to themself wouldn't want other people to have access. Additionally... we aren't talking about kids...we're talking about men and women, over 21 years of age, that have gone through the background checks and training to carry a concealed pistol. If the age limit is 21, the vast majority of undergrads aren't going to be able to carry concealed, even if they wanted to and if their college permitted them. To me this sets up the uncomfortable situation where the right to armed self-defense would seem to vary with whether or not an individual is a young undergrad, a mature undergrad, a post-grad or a member of staff. And what's the problem with that? There's already college bars and events serving alcohol where the vast majority of the undergrad population can't attend. All it takes is ONE person in a class.
