  1. This same thing happened to one of my team mates yesterday. He had been stowing his excess through the bottom elastic keeper after seting the brake. This reduced the excess brake lines loop size but still created the opertunity to pull the toggle through the loop. Wich he did, he too landed uneventfully with his rear risers.

He now stows the excess "S" folded under the top of the toggle, it is a little bilky if you have dacron lines but almost completely reduces the chance of "pulling a Knot" on brake release.

  2. In addition to the FAR's and USPA BSR's that the FAA follows there is a FSDO hand book called document 8700. That is adocument that tells the FSDO howto interpret the FAR's and how to apply the USPA's BSR's, Rating's and Licenses.

I talked to a FSDO while preparing for a Demo in Illinios. Althoug hI too am jumping on an Airport that has had jumping in thepast itisn't an active DZ. So due to its inactivity in the FSDO's eye's I need the whole 7711-1/2 packet. That may be why your FSDOP is asking forthe 7711-2.

I also spoke to a couple of pilots for ya about your exiting advice for a unmodified 182. A unanimous "unless it is not going to survive the crash landing, Don't";)

  3. I think we all must remember that skydiving is a slice of "our" local society. We will find all sorts of "mentality" in our beloved sport. If the DZ you go to isn't for you, find one that is. Hope fully it is not to much trouble so you will stay in the sport! We need all the skydivers we can get!

One of the DZ's I go to frequently has been bashed here but I find I fit in well there. Maybe My mentallity is the same "grumpy ass" as the DZo was described or maybe I had the same mind set of safety as the DZO.

It doesn't matter. Use the positive aproach to finding a DZ and you will get much better responses, wont be called a "troll" and be a happier skydiver in your travels!

    Blue Skies!

  4. Dalailama,

Itws great to see ya after such a long time. I think your right it was 99 in Hopkinsville when the wings came up to do a little joint training. We will be in your neck of the woods all next week, maybe we coulkd steal a bit of advice from you and your team mates too. Maybe you'll be willing to be a reference for my packet? Have a safe flight saturday.
