I find it hard to believe that I criticized someone giving away free professionally designed safety placards. Do you have a link?

    I personally doubt he does

I dunno, about two years ago he contacted me to proof read some stuff, and then he was attacked, here, inn the WS Community, and in the BOD meeting.

The GOP caught this themselves and took action. It seems like it is a case of one or a couple workers doing this. It is very different when an organization does this for political gain (ACORN). The GOP discovered it and took immediate action stating there is not room ofr voter fraud and they will not have it.

Hmmmm.....back at it already, in 30 states.

I can't believe that's what some people think this is.
Oh the millions of dollars and worldwide fame that handful of special magical wingsuit instructors.
Those lucky soles will inherit the skies.
    Or millions.
    Or minions.
Or something I'm just not understanding....

I think it is because some people aren't looking at this Objectively.

  4. I didn't post how the Inspector got asked the question, because I wasn't there, but it is a DZ fight across states lines. I am just glad I am not involved now.

So the I/E program is a failure now too?

    Matt

If a STRAWMAN is the best you can do, I guess you have nothing.

No strawman, just pointing out your using the same old argument, and IMO it is with out merit in this case, for this topic.

    You are not correct.

I EXPLICITLY stated in post #133, this thread: "This is NOT a parallel activity to AFF, the issues are quite different". You chose to cut out my words from your reply.

Hence you can't draw any conclusion about my opinion on I/E in the AFF program.

Thus your statement was, indeed, a strawman.

"But that is NOT what the coach course is all about. I fail to see its relevance. If you're concerned with pedagogy, then exempt professional educators from the coach requirement since they've had the real training and actual classroom experience."- this is what I addressed from the same post.

You always use this argument and it ignores many others who are well qualified, tested, certified and practiced in teaching as well.

I was told by a reliable source that the FAA has two catch-all charges, Careless operation and Reckless operation. With these two charges they do not have to directly site an FAR, but rather just state that safe operating procedures were not followed.

As for dropping things from a plane, I spent over 20 years dropping test items out of planes. Many of them because of the FAA.

They stopped Bob Hover from flying; they can do just about anything they want.

    Sparky

Sparky is right, if they want you, they will get you.

Well, fortunately for me I was not a "Chunker" or even present at the event. Plus, I just got word that I need not worry about it any more.

But maybe the DZO's hosting these events would do well to cross their "T's" and dot their "I's", prior to the event, to be safe.

You are a well educated man, holder of many teaching credentials and have held them for numerous years. But, that level of credentialing is not needed if one is teaching a single subject, sure it can be a benefit, but it is not necessarily needed.

To the original question of this thread, Yes-I think WS'rs and USPA Members who wish to be WS'rs, should, and would, want Standardized WS Training.

Very similar to AFF and Tandem etc. Since those are Basic forms of Instruction I think they make a good example, for some we should be using advance skills as the example.

    OK.

Belly or Traditional RW, there are standardized skills sets now, exits, verticals, grip presentation, techniques for blocks, and more, are almost down to a very few alternates, most all of the RW Coaches are using the same standards yo advance their students. We see similar actions in High Performance Landings Coaches (good ones that is).

Maybe a new Instructional rating is not needed, maybe just a a BSR enforced.

Bottom line is there is a safety concern in this aspect of the sport, you know better than I, since I have a grand total of 1 WS jump, that WS jumps are not just a normal skydive and small mistakes can lead to fatal mistakes or very dangerous situations for one or numerous others.

  8. Cool story, but when we are talking about GA used in Skydiving on Public access airports, it seems that the FAA has the ability to Say, "No" to this activity, and win when they do.

Oh fer fuck's sake... How many flour drops go on each year around the country.

I dunno, but apparently one Punkin Chunkin' Contest has caught the Feds attention. And since we are all so loving and helpful to each other, we know we will all stand behind each other and not throw one another under the FAA bus.[:/]

The question is, weather or not it is a tradition and we have been doing it for years or not, have we been CORRECT in when and how? One Inspector seems to think, NOT.

(I get that it means throwing a pumpkin out,) but do you play catch with it or something?

In this case... DZO parks a car in the middle of a big field. Cessna passes over(Low). You have to spot, and toss the pupkin at just the right time. The goal is to do damage to the car below. Great fun with a long standing tradition....

Sounds easier than it is. I don't believe anyone has ever even come close. But I could be wrong. ;)

This may be part of the issue, if it happens on a public Airport, and not out in a filed with prior consent and "reasonable precautions" (which may be up to the Inspector to accept).

  11. Quoting a FSDO Inspector: "Punkin Chunkin'? Really? That has not been, and never will be, legal! I find out that is happening, the Pilot, Chunker, Facility Operator, and any on else I can attache to it, will be fined heavy! and lose any and all FAA issued licenses!"

    Any "truth" to this boast/Bluff?
What FAR would it be in violation of?

  13. It appears to have little to do with "Cooper" and more to do with Duane's History as a petty Criminal, family failure and societal reject.

As an aside: I wouldn't say Duane was Service Connected, and it appears his brother was connected to the Army, not AF, that is a huge distinction.

    Hello Everyone!
I am currently in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, I am in California for another 10 days and at the last minute have time available to do my AFF. I have never even jumped tandem but am very confident that I will want to continue and get my AFF.

What I am looking for: A reasonably priced drop zone, in Northern California preferably, where I can either stay on site or very close by for a reasonable cost and is not in the middle of nowhere or has transport arrangements. I am on a budget and would like to avoid having to add the cost of a rental car to the 5-6 days it may take to complete my training.

I have a good sleeping bag but am not really set up for cold weather camping and cooking.

It would be nice to be able to hang out with people in the evenings but not necessary. I am really excited and am ready to get started as early as two to three days from now.

Any help or suggestions that could be provided would be most appreciated!

Find a DZ here, cross check it with its history here as well. If you have any doubts about the DZ's A/C Maintenance, gear or Instructors give it a pass, no mater how cheap.

If any respectable Instructor says they wouldn't let a member of their family jump there, give it a pass.

If the FAA has an open book of fines on them, pass.
Negative press for failure to follow industry Standards, pass.

    Good luck!

One guy "hears" some thing, one guy. I heard and watched the ABC broadcast and chalked up the "sounds" to VP Biden hitting his mikes, making grand gestures which lead to moving fabric over his mikes and moving away from his mikes, etc.

But, as I only have five years experience in the production field my ears aren't as attuned as yours. Or as attuned as One Guy, out of the millions who watched and heard the debate.

    Matt

With a hand-waver like Biden, I woulda used moleskin around a Tram, and looped for isolation. Had they silked him, it likely would have reduced the rubs by a significant amount.
I just watched the debate again, and the highly compressed audio on YouTube makes the compressor pumping more apparent. Biden is a perfect candidate for a hairline mic. Then there would be no noise, no slap, no hassle at all.

I was trying to tell him, he was "hearing a conspiracy", not an actual conspiracy, when the subject does all the distracting antics the VP did, the sounds are heard, fact of the Audio Departments life.

ABC had the sounds as well, it wasn't a "Fox did this" event. Or it would be all over the web right now! It was a "the VP did it" event.

what you tried to tell the FBI and Grey a while back is nothing to what you state today!

You have assumed much I do not agree with. Not the case at all. Facts don't change, people do. I will only speak to law enforcement.
