I just saw this on the wire. This is disgusting...

So, a former convict who was released after murdering a family member. Those gun laws sure kept that bad guy from getting guns, huh???

Why the surprise, the gun lobby has rendered the gun laws useless.

The clear solution is for the NRA to pay to put an armed guard on every fire truck.

What a useless reply... Such a wonder I rarely ever post in this forum. Aren't you supposed to be a Phd or something? I'd expect a better retort from someone of your education level. Rant on. You'll get nowhere.

It's the toothless gun laws that are useless, courtesy of the loopholes demanded by the gun lobby.

Can you please spell out these loop holes? And who lobbied for them?

The Gun show one we have already proven false, or at very least, incorrectly represented for political gain.

Private Citizens can sell to one another, maybe there is a way to ensure that is done with less chance of a felon getting a weapon, opening the data base up to the private seller maybe?

Maybe stop allowing lobbyist the ability to lower sentences and reinstating violent offenders rights would be a help as well.

Really. Tell us about the bill that Boehner sent to the Senate.

There are apparently 200~ that even NPR mentioned have not made it to the Senate floor.

But if you're talking about "Plan B" it failed in the House, not even a vote, (but this you know) and Reid said He WOULDN'T bring it up on the Senate, fucked either way, since we have TWO ASSHATS as "Leaders" in the Legislation.

Reid and Boehner need to be replaced.

If the US goes into recession in 2013, the politician's who are putting ideology before their own country should be voted out at the next opportunity...

Our President isn't too worried about that.

Then again, I don't think it's his job to fix it. I actually don't have a problem with him being elsewhere and leaving Congress to do its job.

Aren't all such bills supposed to originate in the House?

That is the rumor, and then they are supposed to be compromised with the Senates bill. According to the Senate Majority "Leader", the House Bills wont pass, and the House "Leader" claims the Senate wont debate their House passed bills. It almost looks like the clog is the Senate Majority "Leader" right now. That and the fact neither side has pulled their heads out of their collective asses in many many many years.

It is supposedly Clinton's idea, so you're correct.
And the 6th isn't applied very well at all, IMO, Criminals get off way too easy. That should be part of the solution, punishment for the crime found guilty of.

    The solution is...........Cylons.

Yep, I didn't say it was free or easy, but it also can come from the PD budget, they are currently looking at double overtime here. but putting a bunch of trained, none-sworn, ASRT's in during school hours can be done, cheaper than the overtime costs.

    Matt

Any real solution is either going to be inexpensive and elegant or nothing. And we're not starting an arms race inside the 100,000 schools in America or have some kind of TSA equivalent.

Do you know who first proposed this idea 16ish years ago?

  7. 911 is a reporting and response system, always has been. The right to defend ones self is the deterrent, always has been.

I have great respect for the LEO's out there, I work along side many most every day. Many feel they would take victims statements after a crime was attempted, rather than notify the victims family a crime was committed, if the victim actively defended themselves.

  9. Once, to avoid getting robbed at a gas station.

The would be robber showed me a large folding knife, like the old school brass and wood Buck knives. Told me to hand over my cash, I told him I had none. He said; "How you gettin gas den?" I replied "Plastic". He said; "give it up" I said "No, now leave or risk getting shot". He said; "With what" and raised the knife, i went to draw and he trotted off when I did, he kept his knife.

I saw a Secret Service Agent have a similar experience at the same station a year or so later, but he took that guy to jail. I could understand the Perps confusion, the Agent was in a REAL nice suit and driving a flashy silver Mercedes.

  10. I proposed to out Mayor having ASRT in the schools, hire ex-mil, retired mil, LEO, and armed SEO's. Have them train on the drills and place them in the schools, coupled with CCTV and electronic lock doors.

I have been ignored of course. The State has held a meeting and their idea (rumored) is to expand the "zone" around the school for a larger gun free area.

We see a lot of that is this very forum. A lot of would-be Rambos post here.

Some of us actually train for these ASR scenarios. Part of that is knowing when NOT to shoot. But drawing and showing has an effect too.

Maybe better preparation in the school systems security would be a benefit.

here is the screen shot of her posting.....

kind of seems like she is done with it and it ends there.
just don't think anyone has a right to speak of themselves
as being related to Cooper with hearsay evidence.

she did however mention you B|

Hey Robert M. Blevins, I know you're reading this, so let me say here and now the BS you propagate on DZ about me as factual, is a bunch of crap.

I can't wait for you to read my book "friend"!
    Happy trails!

Is it a fiction? Her "story" never seemed to gel, maybe her editor helped her out and ties it up better with a few good research sessions?

Honestly. I prefer a child molester as a neighbor.
    Vs. an Ar15/ AK47 owner.

Whoever owns s.th. like an Ar15 is a potential mass murderer (27!). Armed w/ a dick, you'll get at most one.

Let's take the gloves off, and expose gun nuts for what they truely are. NUTS!!!!

Very powerful speech by President Obama in Newtown.

Let's just say: if we need a sex offender registry, we surely need a gun owner registry!!!

For I like to know if my neighbor has an AR-15 or AK-47 in his closet.

So gun ownership is akin to child molestation (or merely being a kid sexting another)? I see the point of my post went well over your head.

You don't see any issue with advertizing the location of the nearest AR-15 to steal? How fucking stupid would it be to give burglars inventory sheets? And of course unproductive - there's 300M guns out there already, and the felons can't be compelled to self incriminate themselves.

Wow, are you that afraid of life?

"Nuts"? hmm, Olympic Champions, Hunters (who provide food for them selves, their families and those with out), SEO's, PPD's, competitors, LEO's, just to name a few. There all "Nuts"?

You are suggesting a false dichotomy.

    Just because a solution isn't 100% effective doesn't mean it's useless.

    1. require NICS check on ALL transfers.
    Seems reasonable.

    2. penalty for violations such as straw purchase minimum 20 years no parole.
What about "gifts", can I buy my son his first .22? or is it still "mine" and he gets to use it?

    3. mandatory reporting of all mental health problems.
Tough one, i think a "credible threat needs to be there, but lower that threshold and make the means to gett he temporary ban lifted a plain path to follow.

    4. registration of guns. Penalty for having unregistered gun 20 years no parole.

I think mandatory training and proof is a better idea.

  15. "Gun show loophole"? is that the myth that you can buy a gun at a gun show from a dealer with out a background check? if so it is incorrect. If you buy from a Dealer, there is the Federally mandated background check.

Now, private citizen can sell to a private citizen, if he has no suspicion of the buyer having a restriction to firearms ownership, as per Federal Law.

The crime statistic numbers, even quoted on NPR today support Lawrockets conclusion. Even NPR said that there hasn't been an increase in the crime (they hinted at a reduction) but an increase in the MEDIA COVERAGE.

  16. The loosened up chest strap in the pick is actually anchored below the shoulders and is loosely flapping about the neck, more than likely cause by the Student sinking a bit in the landing.

The T-I looks to have placed his legs ion such a way as to pitch the student forward a bit (feet first, not head first), adding to the appearance of a miss adjusted Student Harness.

Another passenger with not properly adjusted harness! :S[:/]

that harness looks perfectly fine, since the leg strapps were moved lower on the thigh to facilitate a seated position under canopy. Much more comfortable then hanging vertical, and easier for most to raise their legs for landing.

Also known as the "sit back drill" taught by the UPT I/E's since the very beginning of uRWS Tandem Jumps, and still shown on their, UPT's, web page today.

As for me I do NOT get into the technical STUFF, other than I know that our CB picked-up communications from a plane.
I will swear to that till the day I die. HOW? That was what the DZ had to figure out, but it did happen......

If they have a prize for tenacity Jo would be my nominee.

Jo, how do you KNOW the transmission came from an aircraft?

The verbal content may have sounded like it came from a pilot but any ground based CBer could have been the speaker.

A visual sighting of a plane wouldn't prove it unless you could read the pilot's lips and see that they synched with the voice signal you were hearing on the CB.

If evidence has a dozen possible interpretations you ALWAYS pick the one that best fits with the DW=DBC theory. There is a name for this. It is called bias.

Glad your new pain meds are better than the prior ones.

So as a very uncontrolled experiment and for fun to while away the hours, myself and my shift partner hopped in his patrol car and switched his CB on ( he has a CB in addition to his PD issued radio) listened to the truckers for a few minutes, then when it was slow, we pretended to be a pair of 182's in the pattern for John C Tune Airport. The truckers would jump in and tell us to go to an exit on the Briley and look for the "Pilot", then bust out laughing.

But, we actually didn't get to talk to any planes with the CB, on out Hand held, yes, but it is a UHF/VHF radio designed to do that after all.
