  1. Hi Oly, WOW!! 5 pages of posts to try to figgure out how to land a ram-air parachute! On the last page jjx said something about the "problem" being "in your head!!" Well, that's the best place to start!! The eyes "see" the enviornment, transmit this info to the brain where it gets processed, figures out a plan of action and sends impulses to the muscles to react!! So what's happening in the brain getting all this stuff processed?? It looks at all your stored info (memory) and analyzes from there. Prior to jumping, how much aviating experience did you have besides flying kites on Sundays?? What's an airfoil? What's L/D? What is the difference between induced and parasite drag?? When under canopy, where is your "CG" and how can you adjust it?? You didn't just jump out of a perfectly good airplane, when in freefall, you"are" a perfectly good airplane and the same goes for being under canopy!! Most of the time, the student gets told,"pull right toggle to go right, and left to go left." Canopy control by "rote!" Crash and burn city. You have to feel and know the air. Like sticking your arm out of a car window at 60mph and bending your palm in the breeze! If we were at the bar, I'd buy us a couple of beers and continue on. 'Been flyin' model airplanes since I could slide the wing in the slot on the fuselage of a dime store glider as a kid, took some flying lessons in a 7AC Champ in highschool, 'been jumpin' (and flying canopies) since I was 18 and it all boils down to "feeling" the air thru what ever control surfaces you have at your disposal. "Fly while you still have your wings!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. Hey Bub-ah, Funny U should mention that? Why bother to rant here. If anyone is going to do anything about "your problem" it's the DZO's and Pilots. It's their DZ, $$$$, Licenses, and planes. If "your problem" is so rampent, why don't they do something about it, they're the ones with power to hire and fire. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi Dan, No, mine was a gas engine. Thing is that small 4 banger shoulda got "AT LEAST" 28 to 30 mpg!! 18 mpg sux even at '78 prices!!! In the Econo, Big 300 cube 6, 23 -24 city and 27-28 mpg hiway "AT 70MPH" !!!! I don't care how you cut it, that's good!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  4. Hi mlc, Far out dude!! 'Ya coulda' got involved with dz.com sooner and to your benefit!! There's no reason or rules to "Wait till 'ya possess some benign qualification!!" "Get involved!!" As I told a friend who wanted to wait to get on DZ.com.....I said,"Look, it's like sex and skydiving,.. everyone you pass up is one more 'ya ain't gonna get!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  5. Hi Bob, 5 lb weight eh? At least it didn't wrap around the elevator like the one my old ex rigging buddy who used to work with me at scurvyirvey did to GenePaul's Twin Bo at lumberton with Geeter flyin!! That one wrapped around the elevator and beat the shit out of the tailcone!!! Lucky for them it wrapped with a litttle "UP" elevator instead of "DOWN!!" The dude "HAD" to have not just a picture but also a video of all scurvyirvy's upper management ...you know the story about the goat!!! Why??? They blamed "me" for "his" fuckup and I "WAS ON THE GROUND and didn't get to the airport with Jim Nipper till an hour after that happened!!!" Go Figure!!! Next time yer at Raeford ask GenePaul and or Geeter!!!! Oh BTW, as for the tailcone, thanx to "Duck Tape" it got a "temp field repair!!" PS, If anyone wants to know about the "Goat," go ask Bob. 6. Toyata Hilux, or tacoma as they are called in America. source These vehicles, have been available for over 20 years in lill'ol New Zealand. Your problem is that what is considered full size, in USA, is considered Behemouth in the rest of the world. The attitudes of the US consumers have to change first, which, (using the metric system as an egample) will take a very long time. Just put the gas prices to over $4 a gallon like everone else pays and then it might be a little faster! Hi rh, I wouldn't give you 1 I-O-TA for a Tai-O-Ta!! Had a '78 Tia-O-Ta SR5 (Hilux) small truck with the 4 banger should'a got great mileage "HAHAHA!!!" First tank I got 20mpg and never got better than 18mpg at 55mph!! 110K miles later the thrmostat broke, over heated and warped the head. Traded it for a grand on a brand new Ford Econoline 150, long bed, 300cubic in. 6 wh/ 4 speed stick!! Never got worse than 23/24 mpg around town and 26/27mpg on the road at 70MPH!!! Lotsa' trips from so.cal to Ghoulidge and back!! Letz cruize!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  7. Hi rg, The '78 SCR Scrambles, Elsinore Ca., Bottom line on the T-shirt, "'Ya pays yer money, and 'ya takes yer chances!!" She may have broke a finger (could've been worse!!) "BUT" she walked away from the landing!! 'Old pilot's sayin',"Any landing that 'ya can walk away from is a 'GOOD ONE'!!!" I'm sure she was thinkin' the line from 'Right Stuff","No Buck$ No Buck Roger$!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Hi Shroppie, Sorry to hear about your Ellie. 'Will tip one at the pub for the both of ya'. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  9. Damn right. Fuck 'em. Then when they finally show up in the hangar an hour or so later ask how the jump went. Hi Billy, You got that right!! 'Kinda makes ya' wonder about the mind set of "those" jumpers?? The last rack or so of posts are quite telling and I'm sure there are many more. Perhaps some should be in steve1's "Scary Stories" thread over in the hist & trivia forum. To all these "Go-Go!!! Jumpers" I send words from your ancestors, if you were observed doing these shenanigans by R.L. Tycer D-330, an old East Texas/SW Louisiana Jumper from back when, he'd probably say to you in his East Texas drawl,"Knowledge is power you dumb ass!!" And if anyone remembers the late George Fowler, former President of the Long Island Skydivers at Spadero's Airport East Moriches L.I. N.Y., when 'ya would come walking back an hour and a half later he'd yell out load to you in front of everyone on the DZ,"DO YOU KNOW WHY YOU DID THAT?" Sure you said No! And he'd say,"Because you were Stoopid!!" We laugh, because nobody got hurt,....most of the time!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Heinlein may have said that, but if he did he was quoting Thomas Jefferson. Hi Danno, Cool, R.A. knew good stuff when he saw it, the more people that say it the better!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  11. Same thing that stops the Boogieman from coming into my house every night; non-existence. Hi Dennis, 'Saw this same 2099, HR-45 stuff on another 2A site debunked. Thing is, 2099 is lost in space but HR-45 is still smouldering. In its present form it's too "Hostile" so I'm sure Bobby will water it down (SOP) and try to pass "something Sensible??" "Why bother trying to pass any type of HR-45 kinda' bill anyway???" Your boggieman skerd of guns???? "The price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance..R.A. Heinlein" "If the 'bad thing' starts in this country, there will be no rules.....No Rules At All!!" PS, As for Bobby HR-45, Black Panther, Convicted Weapons Charges Felon, pardoned by Bill Clintonista, Got a seat in Congress from Ill, this is our boy RUSH!!! And he wants to tell me that I can't own guns unless they're by HIS rules??? Please re-read above!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  12. The two Caravans at my DZ each have only 2 lights, but they have large labels next to them too. Red - Don't go. Green - Open door and spot. (some pilots suck) Hi twister, Love your answer, finally some sense!! Yup, "Green" open door and spot!! The pilot is relying on an electronic navigational instrument to fly the plane. Unfortunately, he can't see straight down (our flight path) so it's up to us. Nothing like comming up from the south in Sieara Arctic 12.5K over Scare-us Valley, get the green, pop the door look down and see a KC-135 Heavy coming up on the railroad museum from the west!!!! Hmmmmm?? Just because the Green Light is on do we really "have" to go,sknuffy???? How about you go sknuffy, the 135 will probably just call in a bird strike on "Short" final into March. PS Been there, done that, fortunately I was on the ground looking up!! I don't think the 135 was even directly over head yet when Al Krueger was on the horn to the tower at March!!!! Fortunately no skydivers were in the sky but it was a very interesting few minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi Red and all, Yeah!! New Gun law Debunked!! Everybody rejoyce and pop a beer!! I concur; however, Reed, Rush and the rest of their ilk are not resting!! You must ask yourself,"What kept, is keeping, these laws from passing????" Who stopped them, how?? Will it work the next time?? Just remember, the name of the game is not "Gun Control" it's really about controlling you and me!!...and they will be exempt!!! hehehehe how funny! "The price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance" R.A. Heinlein Funny how things go, Laws equate with rules. Rules, Rules Rules!! This Country is just like a Big Dropzone. Beer Rules, Pie Rules , what are they, who comes up with them, why? Pie rules for your ninth, Beer rules for landing over some line "Green or Brown Bottles only" No CHEAP BEER, Sorry I don't drink, have a big Orange!! In a sickeningly funny way, some of our Government Lawmakers act just like a bunch of drunk Skydivers making up new pie and beer rules on a Saturday night!! But just remember one thing boys and girls, "If the 'bad thing' starts in this country, there will be no rules..... No rules at all!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi Stew, Depends on your "Group" but on a chop someone would follow the freebag, someone else follow the main! If it's my chop, I'd definitely follow my main unless it's over some really "Hostile" territory. From "back when," at Perris, we'd see people out on the freeway stop, pick up a chopped canopy and motor on!! "Good bye canopy!!" That's when Ben employed Bill Van Tassel "The Bad Spot Cab Company" his primary job was to get to the chop before the canopy banditoes!! Remember Bill and Claude, Blue skyz guys! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Hi Mark, It's not the "Cash 4 Klunkers" program" that is interesting, it's the "Caskets 4 Klunkers" program in the med bill that's amusing!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. Or you could just use a lead sinker, a.k.a. "ripcord stop." HW Hi Howard, 'Remember the lead "Sinker" ripcord stop. Took quite a few off of Security Systems (the old "Kelvinator" rigs)!! Funny about those things, in one of the final scenes in "The Gypsy Moths" when the kid lands and is stumbling around in a daze holding the ripcord, Hackman comes up to him and grabs the end of the ripcord and looking at it he says,"When you pull it you sure pull it huh kid!" Now that's a pull!! Also, "That's Hollywood!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hi mudgy, "ME!!!" 'Make my own suits, same reason why I Skydive,"Because I can!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. "Whiskey is for drinkin' water is for fightin' over!! I think John Wayne said that!! Anyway, go turn on the fawcett, great!, hot and cold "running" water for most of us till???? This morning. Peggy made coffee then a while later I turned on the sink tap and a trickle to nothing!!! "ARGH!!" The pump sucked a bubble and was pumping dry!! Turned off the pump switch and went out to prime the pump, it had H20!! but still had the bubble!! Finally got my wife's cousin, our pump man< and he turned on the pump with the prime cap off and between spurts we got it working!! YEAH!! Makes ya' appreciate daze gone by when hand pumps in the yard were the rule, not the exception around here. What's at your "house?" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi Larry, Yer' right!! "We loved to jump and that's what we had!!" Daze gone by it was a hardy sport!! One thing else for sure, what with all the whistles, bells, ground proximity warning and over ride devices, lanyards, Jesus cords and what all, the number of jumpers who think they're "bounceproof" has risen considerably. Trouble is they can still bounce...just as high! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. I compare them all side by side to make sure that during shipping they didn't get compressed. Hi hang 10, Better yet, check the specs and get out your trusty feeler gauge, great for points, plugs and valve clearances. Got that clearance Clarence?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi Nat-L-E, Good moves! Get good and comfortable on the small stuff before you "Up-Size" (opposite of what skydivers do for canopy size) One thing about Bikes, the biger they are, the harder "YOU" fall!! I had an old Ducati 350cc Dirt&street back in the early 70's. Good fun and good transportation. I never laid it down but I did get run off the road a few times by people in cars who "WERE NOT LOOKING!!!" There are 3 things of concern I have with Bikes; Complacency, Cockiness and Loose Gravel!! Be safe!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Hi KTO, At first I thought you were going to break out an Indian "tom-tom drum" (aka, pre-historic boom-box) and start banging on it!! GPS's wow, what ever happened to the gas station road map?? Oh the wonders of modern technology!! Just incase yer batteries go dead, try looking outside the airplane on the way up and notice the terain from the DZ out and away N-S-E and W!! Get a good look and "Know Where You Are!!" One thing for sure, you are always directly above the center of the earth!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  23. Hi K-W, Yer post got me ta' thinkin' Skydivers will drink just about anything ya' put in front of em'!! An old High School friend's dad told us of 2 of his neighbors that made "Home Brew Beer" back during the Depression. They got to arguin' as to who had the "Best!" So, they took samples of each, marked one "A" and the other "B" and sent them off somewhere to be tested. 'Got the letter from the testing place back and it read,"Gentlemen,..We are sorry to inform you but both of these horses have Diabetes." SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  24. Quote And that's just labor, the plugs are extra. Jeez![/reply Hi John, You're,"That Guy!!" The one in the radio add that paid someone $30 to put water in his winshield washer tank and replace his wiper blades!! Ditch your what ever and get an old 60's era Volkswagen Beetle or Van!! Also find a "How to keep your Volkswagen alive for the complete idiot!!" Manual by John Muir. Change the oil, adjust the valves, change the plugs, install and adjust the points, you'll be a "Bugwhiz" in no time!! I don't know what VW plugs go for these daze, last time I bought any for my VW the set was less than 5 bucks. The tire tool is also the plug wrench!! What, you don't know how to change a tire?? Roll up yer' sleeves and get greasy!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  25. Hi K-W, Schlitz!! $5.49 a 12 pak at the Food Lion!! Good stuff, made Milwaukee famous!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
