  1. Hi 112, OK, when's the First Jump??? Quit yakin', start packin' and ya' can make the 20 minute call!! 'Wanna' hear it all,"NO SHIT, THERE I WAS, THOUGHT I WAS GONNA' DIE!!!!!!" PS, BEER RULES! It's your "FIRST JUMP!!" right?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. Hi andy, 'usedta' squirt some regular old alcohol on the pad if it got too dry. Also would keep some scrap felt around and use a small piece with a small amt. of ink whenever I needed to do some stamping. We used to get the old MIL-I-6903 stuff by the gallon and ya' had to shake it up like old paint because the pigment would settle!! Lots of fun. Everything got "BLUE!!!!" Alcohol works great for diluting and cleaning -6903 and the new spec stuff ('forget the # right now??) clean yer stamps right after ya' get done stampng with alcohol an acid brush and paper towels, if you wait till they dry out ya have to use an xacto knife to scrape the crud off. ferget MEK, acetone and all that other stuff to clean yer stamps that stuff'll kill ya!!!! Good old rubbing alcohol works best and it's cheap. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi 9o8, Interesting, The "King James version" as "Gods' preserved, inspired, inerrant and infallible word!!" Hmmmmm???? Do battle with the Pope as,"His word is suppose to be 'Infallible??'" And I always thought of the King James version as,"Revisionist!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  5. Hi tk, The "last sentence" in your post says it all!! When it happens, we'll all have to live with it....or is it "die with it??" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  6. Hi rad, This guy "I-ears," I wonder what he would have written about Barry if he didn't like him?? Or me for that matter!! Ears gives the tearm,"Poison Pen" a new meaning!! On the other end of the spectrum he could make Ethyl and Julius look like Barry and Michelle, NPP and all! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  7. Hi tb, Seems like yesterday and now it's been a whole year!! 'Ya hit the nail on the head about saving Skydiving in So Cal, Harry picked up the ball and ran with it!! That was 24 years ago. A lot of contemporary Skydivers were just getting hatched back then. I guess us old folks had to find something to do while we were grounded that summer!! 'Ya can't ferget Harrys' signature line on malfunctions,"It'llclear!!!!" said with a wink and definitely toungue in cheek!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Hi BB, Don't know about the "bounceproof thing," but some years ago one of those funky rubber chichens showed up at Scare-us-valley, I think it was the mid 80's or there abouts. It would be hanging out by the pool, or in the bar (the OLD Bomb Shelter). One day on a fun 4 way load about 1/2 way thru the dive, Ernie Velanueva reaches inside his jumpsuit, pulls out the rubber chicken and starts waving it around in the middle of the formation!!! 'Took everybody by surprise and after the laughter simmewred down a bit I think somebody keyed a horny gorilla as nobody else could remember what the next point was!!!! After that, I remember a bunch of people playing a beer drinking game with the chicken at the bar!! They'd skewer the chicken with a beer bottle and ya' had to tilt the chicken and drink the beer thru the head. I think they called the game,"Chicken Head Beer!!!" "Head??, Who said Head?????...." 9. Hi snow, Dark glasses, long beards, "ZZ" !!!! Elvin Bishop, Quicksilver, Grateful Dead, Santana.....Guys like Bo diddly and the one that John Lennon said,"If they didn't call it Rock and Roll they'd have to call it 'Chuck Berry!!!!!'" It's all good!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Hi Wendy, Good Fun, I like it! Funny how confounding experiments to skew the results in one's favor can be so much fun!!! Kal baby's hangup on 7 cells is so 15minutes ago!! The real issue at hand is not the number of cells,(7 vs. 9) but,"Varying the aspect ratio per unit of area holding all other variables constant." Now, back to the drawing board!! 11. Hi Joe, 1st paragraph from the article; In Philadelphia researchers at the U. of Pa. find, possessing a gun is strongly associated with getting shot. Since,"guns did not protect those who possessed them," they conclude,"People should rethink their possession of guns," "this is like noting that possession of a parachute is strongly associated with being injured when jumping from a plane, then concluding that Skydivers would be better off unencumbered by safety equipment designed to slow their desent." Can this be as stupid as it sounds? asks Stewart Baker at "Skating on Stilts." Having shelled out the $30 for the privilidge of reading the entire article from the "American Journal of Public Health," he confirms the answer is "yes!" That's the beginning. I thought it was amusing and at first I thought maybe that kal baby may have written it SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  14. Hi JD, I can hear yur laughter all the way here from NC By the way, next Saturday 17OCT09 here in NC, in Sampson Cty, at McDaniels crossroads (just down the road a piece from my house) is going to be the "Old School" Sorghum Festival!!! They open up the old one room school house, community building, old general store/post office, people bring out old crafts, jelly-preserves making, "Sorghum syrup making" , stuff like that "AND" some old farts break out their old "JOHN DERRE" farm tractors (the antiques!!) and the old J D pump machines and RUN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last year I heard the sound of an old JD tractor that I havn't heard in 40 years that old POP< POP< POP!!!!!and I was in heaven!!!! I'll be there next Sat and I will give you a full report on this year's events. FMI please PM me. It's just a little bit this side of heaven!!! Please note, 'just found out my date for the festival was a week off (I corrected above!) Freddie at the crossroads store told me the other day it was this comming sat the 10th, he was off by one week, sorry about that so I stand corrected it is the 17th!! the website for the festival is www.oldschoolsorghum.com check it out!! 15. I was jumping a 7-cell Spectre on Sunday. On every jump I had a shorter walk than others on the load who were jumping 9-cell canopies. The distance I get to walk depends on where I CHOOSE to land, not on the number of cells in my canopy. Your mileage obviously differs Hi kal baby, I'm really glad that I don't personally know you and I really hope that we never meet. If per chance we end up on the same dropzone if I end up on the same load as you I will surly scratch off. BTW I do drink beer, I'll never buy you any and you can keep drinking your koolade. 16. Hi Tim, Thanks. Trouble with guys like kal, they went thru the quickie FJC and never bothered to read up on theory. "No aeronautical knowledge syndrome!" They get told pull the left toggle to go left etc. etc. and never figure out why. Funny how kal's profile says he's some whiz/bang prof of physics or something , he should have it down pat!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. How far you walk depends on how accurately you land, not on how many cells your canopy has. Hi kal baby, Howard cosel once said,"'Ya can't argue with ignorance!" (or something very close to that!!) Now, here's the deal. L/D has nothing to do with accuracy!! The bottom line is this," For a given number of square feet, a canopy with a higher aspect ratio [mean wing span/average chord] {holding all else constant; fabric type, airfoil shape, type of lines, suspended weight} will provide more horizontal distance covered per unit of sink. Got that???" Now, if you took a 7 cell, like an old Mike Furry Django "Pegasus" and expanded it to the same wingspan/chord as the "Dragonfly," without adding the additional ribs to make it a 9 cell the airfoil would baloon out and reduce its efficiency. If you took the 7 cell "Pegasus" and a 9 cell "Dragonfly" and with same suspended weights , opening side by side, the Dragonfly will "outglide" the Pegasus, (You can do this same experiment with countless other canopy designs) "SO," if you used the maximum Pegasus spot for both canopys, both canopys will make it to the target , it's just that the Dragonfly will have some extra altitude to burn off before landing. Sorry about that old man. Conversly if you were in the Pegasus on the max Dragonfly spot, "You'd be walking to the target!!" That's all the whiz/bang I'm gonna' get into for you....."GOT THAT???" 18. Hi sky, "Lets get Primal!! She's staking her claim!! It's not wearing mens' clothes, it's wearing "a mans'" clothes, "The man she's fixing french toast for!!" Funny how that goes, the photo evokes that thought, "that's not any shirt, that's MY shirt!!" The lady is telling everyone,"The man whose shirt I'm wearing is MINE!" To the man the scene is"a prelude to an interlude!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi jf9, Lotsa testamonies!! Start with rolling a tube outa the plane and when it goes over on its side all let go with the high hand to a upside down donut let go and fly back and make a round then key the gorilla!! either foot in first then bring up the other foot to lock legs then everyone let go hands, lean back and scratch their sides and make noises like a "Horny Gorilla!!!!" 22. Hi np, Don't know if ya' did much research last night but there's no really short answer. Without a lot of whiz/bang ya gonna get more horizontal distance coverage per unit of sink with the 9 cell. You will walk further with the 7. There's this concept in aerodynamics called induced drag. that's the drag that is produced by the wing creating lift. Look at a side view of your canopy (airfoil) and note that for the same sq.ft. the 7 cell will have more nose to tail(chord) distance and less span than the 9 cell. Since the mass of air traveling over the wing will have to travel farther and be in contact with the canopy surface longer with the 7 cell over the 9 cell ya end up with more drag created. Ya ain't gonna cover as much ground, sorry. Hope my short answer helps you out. Next time you run into Brian Germain or the PD guys, buy em' a couple of beers and ask them. 23. Hi NP, Yup, 2 cells!!!! And answer this ??, What's the aspect ratio diference between the two and how will it affect flight performance?? Given; same canopy model, ft.sq., weight of jumper, temp., pressure, humidity. Can't answer that because I'm still a noob..hence me being a wiseass. On a side note, would love some ejumacation on what you just mentioned above. I fly a Triathlon 210, and would love to learn more about the differences between 7 and 9 cell canopies, aside from the obvious. H Hi np, OK, here'z a quick project for ya' google up aerodynamics, lift, aspect ratio, induced drag and lift/drag. Knowledge is power....get some!!!! Let us know what you find out.
