  1. Hi Dennis, When you said "Perris" you said it all!!! Standing at manifest, the wind sock on the north side is showing wind coming from town, the south side sock is showing wind from the canal!!! They meet in the middle where everyone is landing!!! I watched Johnny Dangerously get his canopy folded up like a dish towel, cutaway and get reserve opening with his feet about one canopy height avbove the hard pan(BTW half way thru watching this event I realized his reserve deployment was "MY PACKJOB!!!)!!! Another time that wind shear was kicking some ass Captain Kaos came thru it about 25' up and it "rotated his canopy" like a helicopter blade and set him down OK "but" what could have happened is frightning!! "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto!!" Yup, interesting hypo sitch on landing direction!! If someone wants to bitch about my choice of landing direction, well lettem' bitch. They can land according to their directive and get a code 3 ride to the hospital while I head for the bar after the sunset dive and for sure we'll toast our fallen comrad with a hearty and healthy,"Him, Him, (you know the rest)." PS, I concur with your assessment of landing direction determination. Excellent. PPS, If you don't like the wind direction at Scare-Us-Valley, go 30 yards and you'll find a different one!! 4. Hi m-r, "YES..BRRRRRRRR!!" Not bad now, Wx says 30* tonight but after the front goes thru it's only suppose to get to 34* tomorrow and "A Frigid Fifteen!!" tomorrow night!! It's so cold that the thought of a "Cold Beer" ain't interesting!! Guess I'll have to break out my Espresso machine and start making "Crater Bait Cocktails!" aka "Double Malfunctions!! Ya' start yer Espresso brewing then get a 12 oz beer mug and put in a jigger of Coffee liquor, Irish Cream, Dark Rum and a smidge of Amaretto, Frangellico or the like and when the steam comes up, froth all that in the mug and pour the whole caraffe of espresso over it. Top with coolwhip and cinnamon optional. enjoy!! If this doesn't warm you up, nothing will!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  5. Hi Jerry, 'Not Sure?? Bob and Mike Quinn had a metal fabrication shop in South El Monte and there is that probability about him making some kinda Rip Cord Testers. Don't know where Bob is these daze but Jerry or Pat Swovelin should know. BTW, Glad ta' hear from ya'!!
  6. I thought at one time that Perris was using Paradactyl main and reserve rigs for static line students. Mabye that was something else I misunderstood after a "safety meeting". Hi uta & zzm, It wasn't PVA's training program, they used gutter gear and then Cheapo's packed in these red "Maxi-Piglet" type rigs that hank made. The Dactyl's at Perris were being used by "New Dimensions Flite School"(Honchoed by Bob Buhrer and Jerry Swovelin) in the trailer next to the fence on the North side of the Pool back in '82-'84. New D was one of the first AFF programs after Mike Johnston and Jack Gregory went around the country doing the first USPA AFF Certification courses. Me, Bob Buhrer, Jerry and Pat Swovelin, Ross Steer and others were Instructors with the school. And Yes we did use "Double keel Dactyls!!" Had a few mals but as I recall no serious injuries. Landings were "easy!" If anyone recalls "Visions" 8-way team one year used double keel dactyls and I watched them land powder puff with hands off the toggles!! Also 3 stacks easy on!! 'Hope this tidbit of Skydiving history perks up a few more "Safety Meetings!!" Consider that a lot of the Skydivers reading this weren't even born yet when these events occurred!!!!! 7. Hi GW, Sorry to hear about your kitty. As I'm typing this, Pumkin is crawling around my keyboard. She, Anglefood McSpade, Lucky, Jethro and Chucky Blue are somewhere near by. They were all "dump jobs" which we either found or they showed up at the back door. Funny how that goes. Blue skyz to Tabi. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Hi Joe, It's not just the tin foil hats!! I remember driving up the PCH from Huntington Beach to Douglas Aircraft and regularly I'd see this guy drivin' along and he had on his head this pyramid shaped "device" made out of what looked like coat hanger wire!! Then I saw them on display at Mom's Market in Costa Mesa!! The pyramid shape is supposed draw the powers of the cosmos to its core which while you are wearing it is the middle of your head!!!! Tinfoil hats, pyramids, they're everywhere!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  9. Why not just dig out the last rig He packed for you? Hi Mike, Wanna "Jesus String" for your rig?? Do a search an' you'll be surprised!! Amazing how much trouble a jumper can get into with a piece of red 550 cord!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Hi Andy, Yup, tin foil also renolds wrap!! When I worked at Weber Aircraft in Birdbank CA, I saw this one dude leaving the plant surenuff' sportin' one of those air-cooled mail man's hats covered in you guessed it "Renolds wrap!!" My bud Burroughs who did our QC said,"That's Otto, he says it keeps the "Rays" off him!!" They're everywhere but there's a special breed in the San Fernando Valley!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  13. Hi Howard, Actually I think Pat named him after and old, notorious, late Skydiver named Carlos Wallace who used' ta' jump in SE Texas back when. I never met him, but stories were told around the DZ. As far as Hunnel, I still have a few copies of his old DZUSA rag in my archives!! Remember how he used to rag on old Noel Funchess?? 14. Hi Mr. Nat, "COMPTON!!!!" That's a good one!! Back in the 80's when I usedta' live in the LA area and fly airplanes outa' LGB, doing T&G ldgs at Compton Airport was dicey!! Had ta' come in high over the fence and slip the shit outa' the old aircraft as if ya' came in lower out before the fence ya' got "SHOT AT!!!!" That was then, this is now, instead of small arms they probably use,"ASSAULT WEAPONS!!" Good fun! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  16. Would that be the same as a "well regulated militia?" Hi hutch, Funny thing about words. Take "well regulated," for example. How about a,"Well un-regulated" militia or let's get with it and think about this. If Robert E Lee didn't surrender his sword and just told all the troops to scatter, we's still have the Civil War goin on in the bushes with a bunch of "Irregulars" still out there fightin!!! If anyone thinks the Civil War is over think twice!! Just drive around the south (and I've even noticed in the northern parts like Ohio) Confederate Stars and Bars Flyin' on flag poles in front of peoples' houses, on back windows of cars and pickup trucks and flag plates on front bumpers (I sport one on my Chevy Silverado 1500) so there!!.....NOW!, Our old bud JK says,"I'd consider them pretty good militia weapons." Hell boy!!! If you're a militia, you'll take anything you can wrap your grubby fist around and use it as a weapon!!!!!" Like I said up the ladder, a baseball bat can be a darned good assault weapon!! Now besides JK, I'll probably have the makers of the "Louisville Slugger" after me for having the DHLS after 'em for maken' "Assault weapons!!" because someone spied this website and reported us!! We've already beat this thread to hell but if I have a bottom line for all this, ya' gotta' remember one thing,"Assault is a behavior, not a device!!" Hell, an AR- whatever in the hands of Tiger Woods could be a great Golf Ball Wacker!! It's all in how ya' play the game!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hi Pat, Just got ta' thinkin'. "48 years," got any good "scary stories from back when??" Always wondered how "the Godfrog" got named "Carlos Gene??" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Hi 309, At the time I could give you a million reasons why NOT!! Today, I'm glad I spent my 3 yrs, 11 mos and 19 daze in the US Navy.(05DEC66-23NOV70) Being a Gator Navy Ships Company Parachute Rigger was OK, now I often think i should have gotten on the Helo crew but at the time the politics of the situation were grim so I didn't. Just ran the Flight Equip shop and spent most of the Defense Dept Budget on "COFFEE!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. QuoteI need to pick up a good hunting rifle, one of these days...as for the pistols, while I lurvesssss me some 1911, the newest Glocks are a lot more ergonomic than they used to be and are actually halfway pleasant to shoot, now that they don't feel like holding a 2 x 4 with a gun barrel on it.[/rep Hi Mike, I remember when people would rag on Glocks calling them "Blocks" and Glock picked up on the scuttlebutt and improved their lot!! At the Fayetteville Gun Show there's one dealer that may as well be called "Glocks-a-million!!" Too much fun! I wonder if those Wash. St. hoplophobes have Glocks on their list?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi Mike, AR- e we having fun yet?? Just got ta' thinkin, this thd cites a proposal by some Wash. state politicos (hoplophobes) who as the wording states are wanting to ban a bunch of guns,"Military style semi-auto firearms(weapons)" ,in Wash state anyway. (never mind Chi-town everything is banned there!!) Noone has mentioned pistols yet?? There's a whole buncha' semi-auto, more than 10 round pistols out there!! They're not only "Military style" they're "Tactical firearms!!" Never mind the "Black" ones, I like the Desert Camo finish!! "sweet!" 1911's by Kimber, Tarus, Springfield, you name it! Don't forget all the "Polymer poppers!!" 14-15-16 rounds in your grubby fist!! Never mind the ban, getem' while the gettin's good!! Next Gun Sho in FAY at the Crown is 6-7 FEB!! I love livin' here in South east NC, it's huntin' season right now and 'bout every pick up is sportin dog cages, CB ant. and BIG GUNS! visible on their Rifle raks in the windows!!! Everybody wearin' camo and orange ball caps!! Even if they're not hunters!! 30-06, 30-30, 308, 303, 00buckshot, u-nameit!! Wal-Mart's gettin re-stocked, even .22 cal ain't disappearin as fast as it was!! Want a long gun, any style class or variety?? From sayin "I want that one!" to walkin out the door with it,..15 minutes!! "Fergetit' JK, Dis' ain't Chi-town by a long shot!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi Gypsy, You have a big 10-4 on that. Already on it. Got mail to reps and senators. state house too. Funny how that goes, some prisoner says,"He hit me!!" and now the guys (SEALS) are on the pad?? They all say,"He hit me!!" only why are these SEALS getting singled out?? I don't know if this is an Obama thing or what but something real fishy is going on here!! Sooner or later it'll come out in the wash, who'll get the book deal?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Hi kalbaby, As you may notice, I was answering John's post about the assault weapons ban proposal. The "point" I was trying to make but you seem to not understand is the difference between what "is" and what only "looks like" an assault weapon (fire arms) face it, a base ball bat by any other term if used properly can be a mighty good "assault weapon!!" The typical off the shelf at wal-mart Ruger 10/22 at least at this point I don't think would come under the BATFE def as a "assault weapon?" but the one I saw at the gun store in Clinton the other day from just looking at it "looked" like a bi-pod mounted AR-14/15?? All the parts that went to make up this thing were "after market not by Ruger!!" parts!! Like I said, there's enough after market stuff out there that you could make Davey Crocket's "Old Betsy" look like an AR!! As if banning AR's and or registering the owners or criminalizing everyone else is going to do any good!!!! I'm sure you will shoot my comment full of holes....you seem to like to attack anything I say so bring it on!!!....I can only shake my head at what I see as a world gone completely mad. I don't know how old you are or where you grew up but I'm 64 1/2 years and I grew up in SE Louisiana. If you want to know what it was kinda like when I grew up, go find a copy of "The Old Man and the Boy" by Robert Ruark. Robert Ruark talks about his growing up and the life lessons he learned goin' fishin' and huntin' living with his grandfather. Life ain't like that any more, at least not in open society. BTW the book should be available at your local public and or school library,....if it hasn't been declared "subversive" yet!! BTW2, Yeah, life was kinda like Ruarks' book. Our elders taught us "Respect" for each other, our enviornment and our "Firearms!!" Todays society would probably freak out and throw our elders under the jail for child endangerment, terrorism and God knows what else if what we did then was now! Hurry on big boy, He2xl ain't half full yet! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  23. Hi grim-e, I concur! 'Always tell students to,"Keep their eyes open, cuz ya' can't log night jumps officially till an hour after sunset!!!" Actually in a spin situation a person doesn't "Black out" till later, first they "Red out" that's where centrifugal force from the spin forces blood to the extremities and the blood capilaries in the eyes will pop letting blood into the eye fluids. If enough blood gets "spun away from center" then the body can't get O2 from the lungs out and around hence part two, "back out." I don't know the numbers for how fas a spin and duration necessary to get into big trouble but I'm sure we could get into the "Danger Zone" without too much trouble. Any Military Aero Phisio types might have some good observations. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  24. Source: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2010527541_gunban17m.html AR and SKS owners: get ready to submit yourself for a background check. I suppose this would cover M14's/M1A's, and M1 Carbines too. And of course, this background check effectively registers you with the state as an "assault weapon" owner, and someone who needs to be watched closely. Hi John, Ya' started a good one!! Just love this "Military style" ban?/ Funny how that goes. You've seen a standard Ruger 10/22. Saw one at the gun store day before yesterday all accessorized to look like a whiz-bang, bi-pod mounted AR- what ever the current rendition is!! It's not what they are, it's what they "look like" to the hoplaphobes. Add enough plastic forestocks and other goodies and ya' could make Davey Crockets' "Old Betsy" look like Luke Skywalker's Blaster!! So WHY do the manufacturers add all that stuff? Could it be that it appeals to the same immature minds that think a Camaro with racing stripes and 4 tailpipes is cool, although it doesn't go any faster or handle any better? If the gun-o-philes only care about functionality, all that cosmetic stuff is a waste of money, right? The manufacturers' marketing folks got it all wrong. Kalbaby, Why did you bother responding to my post?? If I wanted to hear your stupid drivle I'd a asked ya! As I told you once before, I'm really glad that I don't know you personally. If we ever end up on the same dive on some DZ somewhere, I'll scratch off the dive. Don't worry, you'll never snivle a beer off me, you'll not only get turned down, you'll get turned face down. So comment to everyone else all you want but I'm not interested in anything you say. From what you've posted already and you claim to be a Skydiver, I'm amused that you havn't made a crater yet.
