  3. I live in Florida. I've got friends at all the dz's around Atlanta. I enjoy them all, depending on what I'm looking for. I think the Farm is a great 'vacation' dropzone. Its just a relaxing place for me. The evening parties are fun. Hell, I've almost fried my facd cooking in front of the huge dz charcoal grill. But the sound of nature in the Am in the secluded fields are what I really enjoy. I can acually relax there, it doesn't feel like a busy dz, but you can still do the jumps of one. ************ Watch out for planters.
  4. I remember doing them on the pond at Z-hills a couple years ago. Pretty scary. 1)Would highly suggest getting some lights. point them in the same direction your landing, so when you get to the ground and look to the side your not blinded by looking into them. 2) Don't hit the ground. Depth perception is quite difficult at night in low light. ************ Watch out for planters.
  5. no, I didn't drill into the N3, I drilled into my helmet. ************ Watch out for planters.
  6. The USB port is waterproof without a cover. I've gotten mine wet a few times, no problem. If you get dirt in there, just rinse it out, or blow it out with an air duster. I also have mine externally mounted on my helmet using the zip ties and rubber casing that was included. I drilled 4 small holes to match the rubber casing, and one where the speaker is. Haven't had any problems with it at all. ************ Watch out for planters.
  7. I can imagine how scary it was for Dan to have this happen. In my opinion, Dan's no slouch swooper. He pushes the limit. He was on the 2007 US National Team. He's NOT mediocre. and in the grand scheme of things, he's not jumping an intermediate canopy. He's not at a "moderate" wingloading. In the big picture of the HP CP world, your NOT the general environment. take care. It appears the unit operated within its design specifications. Vigil is up front about their speeds. but if your in Dan's shoes carefully consider your gear choices. I'll also add a kudos to Vigl for providing their customer with the data in the graph above, and replacing the cutter at no charge. Glad your ok Dan, or I'd have to come punch you for getting hurt. Thats my trick..... Al ************ Watch out for planters.
  8. So are they doing the third round of each event? or are they just doing the 2 rounds ea and thats it. ************ Watch out for planters.
  9. Hey Yall, I'm planing on making a trip over for Czech Nationals, Zwarthberg, and Bussloo. If there's anyone out there interesed in doing these event and splitting a room and/or car shoot me a PM. ************ Watch out for planters.
  10. As someone who has handed out that kind of advice before, its very easy when you say, "When your done with 300 jumps on the 170, and 300 jumps on the 150, then you MAY be ready for the 135" to be recieved as "you're going to end up on the 135 eventually, so just buy it now". So its either the waggly finger to Luigi if I'm wrong, or we wait to see the "you don't know my skills kid" in the incident reports. Either way he should probaly consider doing some more research on wingloadings and its effect on canopies. This stuffs all been said before..... ************ Watch out for planters.
  11. Do I have to wait for Pia and Shatalov, or can I give Dave sh*t for not coming first. ************ Watch out for planters.
  12. the channel slider is what is on most sport canopies today the channels are what the drawstrings are housed in to collapse the slider. Nothing fancy, most people call them collapsable sliders. On the line trim charts, you'll see them called channel sliders. ************ Watch out for planters.
  13. Hi Dale, There was quite a bit of homework that went into getting the larger Katanas to open well. Thats one of the items that went into the additional time it took to release them. If you had seen some of the designs that were tried on the road to what finally worked, you probably would have been quite suprised. When the R&D was done, the Katana's size 135, 150, and 170 ended up with a dome shapped slider with mesh panels. Standard channel sliders will not povide you a favorable opening. Thats something you may want to consider prior to any slider experiments. But I'd strongly reconsider those experiments if I were you. There have been folks who have used aftermarket removables on the smaller size KA's(
  14. I think we can do that for you Mike, In fact, I went ahead and worked them out already. they're attached ************ Watch out for planters.
  15. Both sides of this idea are valid and have merit. With some competitors at a higher skill level and others just starting out, the certainly need for 2 different classes and/or a handicap system. I see one of the goals being to have everyone competing togther and being scored together. This helps breed the group environment that many have come to enjoy at the meets. If an Ama beats a Pro with the current handicap rules, he had to work damn hard for it. He should be proud of it, enjoy the acolades of his peers(both Pro and Ama), and have the opportunity to enjoy that moment of glory. I think seperating the Pro's and Amatuers takes something away from that moment. It creates the opportunity for the Pro to say"well you didn't really beat me, he're our seperate score sheets" Shielding the Ego of our "pro" competitor and lessening the great performance of our Amateur. It potentially fosters the idea that we are seperate crowds, which I don't think we are. We'e one big happy family. The Am who has the opportunity to get jazzed becuse is competing WITH Brian McNenny or Ian Bobo or Kaz Sheeky is being treated as an up and coming peer not a lower class citizen. There may be a point where the league gets big enough to start having sperate pro and ama events, courses, etc. But I don't think we should jump the gun on that one. I see it as more than just printing out an extra piece of paper. ************ Watch out for planters.
  16. Just another quick heads up, I'm bringing up some Competition Velocities for you guys to demo. Various sizes. PD's not shipping these out to demo, they will be available at selected events throughout the year where competition pilots are present. Just grab me before or after the meet and we can set you up. They are on risers. Keep in mind, they are to try out before or after the meet, not to compete with. ************ Watch out for planters.
  17. we've been running the new speed scoring, and the new accuracy zones and scoring for the last 2 meets at the FLCPA. We'll run them in Raeford this weekend too. The speed event definately weighs heavier now. You can't just limp through the course and get an 85 anymore. Some of the folks are looking at accuracy quite a bit different too. The bottom line is still-get all the water gates, and stand up as close to highest scoreing zone as possible. There are a couple little changes you may want to make to your strategy, but only if you botched your run and are trying to salvage a decent score. ************ Watch out for planters.
