  1. supposedly EVERY ripcord is subjected to the 300 pound pull test.but my experience in the industry is that aint so!even WASLEY PRODUCTS(ssuccessor to capewell)only did a sampleling.when i worked at para flite/sse inc , i rejected a batch of ripcords,around 300,because the ball swages were cracked (yes they were cracked. we examined them under a microscope)apparently from over swaging them.(so people were scrutinizing things a little more)this was around the time that that there was a fatality involving a homemade ripcord were the ball swage did in fact come off the cable.i was doing a 100% inspection.we found out at that time that waasley was only doing about 10% sampleing.

NO CURRENTLY MADE MINI RISER HAS THE SAME MECHANICAL RELATIONSHIPS THAT THE ORIGINAL BIG RING RELEASE RISERS HAVE.when Manley Butler invented the mini 3 ring for para flites swift system in 1982,he kept the mechanics the same as the big ring release.(i.e. th e cross sectional thickness of the big ring is the same as the big ring release.only the ring diameters are changed.)this fact has escaped pretty near every one who has built a mini 3 ring in the last 20 years.immediately after the release of the mini 3 ring to the public,poor copies showed up including ones using the standard middle ring as the big ring.in some cases imitation is the best form of flattery,but in thiese cases it can kill you.

  3. about 8 years ago , I dumped a racer where the bridle (3'' wide type 4 webbing) was actually condition "R" .in the July humidity of New Jersey,it stuck together SO bad it qualified as the WORST launch i have ever seen in 40 + years. sherman replaced the bridle,but no explanation was ever given as to WHY someone would use condition "R " webbing in this application.

OOPS.i stand corrected.i owe mjosparky an apology.all the pioneer lopos i encountered WERE factory modified.you could ascertain this fact because the fabric around each suspension line was also removed between each window,with a "V" tab installed where the line emerged from the radial seam. definitely factory done .thanks pop for setting me straight.

  5. dunno about that one. but could be. in 1978 at ripcord para center in new jersey, Kenny Shroyer went in with a double mal.28 foot flat circular main opened into a verysevere mae west(less than 40% of the canopy inflated) .since he was a student at the time ,he tried to hand deploy his resrve (no cutaway)which then entangeled with his main and exasperated the situation by stealing air from the main. landed at 80 mph or so in a FRESHLY plowed field.myself and bruce chapman were the first ones there.(he was not moving when we arrived and was covered by his canopies.as we are trying to find his arm to check for a pulse,he suddenly bolts uprite and proclaims "I'm alrite!". bruce almost shit himself.
    a qick trip to the hospital revealed he was absolutely fine.

  6. COME ON! if it was so poorly made ,it would have broken years ago.if you want something better,why dont you have it gold plated or something.then you could brag to your buddies about how much better yours is than theirs.after all isnt that what youre really whining about?
