  1. Our DZOs are asking congress to be part of the 700 billion dollar bail out. They want 12 billion or hundreds of packers will be out of work. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  2. There IS a difference between stealing and borrowing ya know! You know the old saying... With skydivers, you don't lose your girl friend, you just lose your turn. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  3. "I was under the impression the "damage beyond normal wear and tear" clause in the waiver was fairly standard." It has been almost 30 years since my first jump course and I am not an instructor so I don't know about new waivers and all. Back then they were happy if you lived. "There is a temporary USPA membership that includes the insurance. That insurance should cover the DZ's gear, and anything the student damages on landing.(Again, correct me if I'm wrong)" This I was not aware of and I thank you for pointing it out. This is something that should be put up on a HUGE sign somewhere on the DZ. Or at least it should be mentioned because again, if you are thinking that you are responsible for the canopy as a student, you may not chop in time. Thanks again for the info... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  4. "Is this going on anywhere else?" Not that I know. Unless you signed a contract with the school agreeing on these terms I would walk. If it is a new thing tell them to go climb a tree and quit. There are plenty of jobs out there packing. Besides, if anyone is responsible for lost gear it would be the guy spotting the load. And who is that these days? My packing mentor had T shirts made that said "Double Your Money Back If You Bounce"... Of course he never had to pay. Anyone remember who that was? Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  5. If the student was told that he/she must be responsible for lost equipment they might hesitate to do the proper emergency procedures and that is not what they should be thinking about. They should be concentrating on doing the right thing. And if a school holds you responsible, then there should be insurance that can be purchased just like with a rental car. Otherwise go find another school. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  6. Ask if skydiving is dangerous..... If the answer is no, find another school.... Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  7. "Those are very much inline with canadian prices." OH! Hey I thought your money was better than ours now. Guess not? I would STILL be looking to form a club at those prices. All you need is a willing plane and pilot. A dirt runway is easy to produce. Of course you guys are jumping in the snow now eh? Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  8. "$38 (cdn) for 9.5 or 10k here (Cessna) $35 (cdn) at another DZ with a Caravan going to 13.5 " It would be time to start a skydiving club at those prices. That is just "plane" crazy... And no that is not a typo. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  9. "Diesel and Jet A are about the same." Ya well that's a load of you know what also. But still the price of fuel has gone down so of course I feel that the price of a jump ticket should come down. After all, according to the DZOs it went up for that reason. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  10. I don't know what others around the country are paying for altitude these days but it seems that with the way that fuel prices are plummeting, you would think that the price of altitude might go down a little as well. Has anyone out there seen the price of altitude go down yet? I sure haven't $27 cash to 12,500 here. Regular auto gas today was $2.11. The last time gas was this cheap I believe I was paying $18 per jump. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  11. Well I remember a single file snake of sorts. The last person was really kinda next to the door facing the front of the plane and ran to the front, made the turn and then back towards the door again. But I never minded being front float when we did decide against a no show exit. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  12. "Where's Squishy?" A favorite line from an old movie that Harry used to repeat just about every time we saw each other. I will miss that line and miss the Christmas card each year. Most of all though, I will miss Harry. A finer man never lived. Thanks for sharing him with us Janna. Larry Walsh / Air Trash Webmaster Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  13. "Should that DZ be bitched at for not having enough load abilitiy for me to do the 5-6 jumps I wanted to do?" In my opinion, just like any other "sport" let's say snow skiing, if the place of business is going to be allowed to share and benefit from REGULAR PARTICIPANTS money and time in the sport, then they should cater FIRST to the regular /participants/jumpers and then to students. If they wish to be a student factory then let them get their own insurance, planes, landing areas, licenses and what ever else it takes to run that business. You don't see a bunch of seasoned skiers sitting around waiting for students to go up first on the runs do you? I'm only saying that if they do nothing for the sport, the sport should do nothing for them. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  14. "why do you feel that you have the right to tell others how to do their business ? Their business is NOT to provide fun jumpers with altitude, but to make money. No matter how much we agree or disagree " I would then ask if they enjoy the benefits of Group Insurance and everything that USPA has to offer along with PIA. If they do, then they should be FORCED to accept fun jumpers as well. If they want to just be a business, then I would say let them get their own insurance and not let them enjoy any of the other ammentities that we as fun jumpers support with our money. Seperate them from sport skydiving just like we do with the military. One does not include the other. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  15. I don't think non-skydivers should be allowed on these forums. There could be a wuffo forum added though. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  16. Nick, You gotta get out here and skydive again man. You are growing moss on your north side.... Skydiving has changed tremendously in the last 30 years agreed. Has it changed for the better? Well you are going to get a different answer depending on whether you are on the receiving end of the money or the spending end. It's also going to be different depending on whether you are teaching or learning. People are more apt to believe that this is actually a "safe sport" these days and the younger of our population are a little braver (adventurours) than back in our day Nick. So the number automatically increase because of that. They also seem to have more disposable income (credit cards) than we did back then. This all translates to more money in the sport. But ask yourself this. Does all that extra money do anything for me? The answer is YES! All that extra money translates into more aircraft in the air, more dzs to visit and better ammenities at the dzs. It also translates into safer airplanes and safer equipment. And it's also because of the "tandem mills" that we have an ever increasing amount of people pouring their money into our sport. The money can also be blinding to some of the problems that exist at our dzs today that didn't exist earlier in the sport. Training seems to be lacking in many areas now. Quality pilots who don't think that all skydivers are crazy and who jump themselves are becoming fewer and fewer. And the biggest problem I see is too many people in the air at one time. I think we need more drop zones or fewer skydivers. I would prefer to see more drop zones. The problem with lack of the comoradery that you miss is not one that the DZs can fix. No one can. That is a cultural problem with the masses in this country. Children are not being raised right and have no manners or respect. Nothing you or I can do about that. However it would be nice to have a rule that your kids be left home when you visit the Mega DZs. Dogs too. Yes I would like to move to a place where there is a smaller DZ locally but economics of today just won't guarantee that it will be around for long. It takes a Mega DZ to be able to get through the tough times and Mega DZs will have Mega Problems associated with the operation. I applaud anyone who can keep a place like Perris running for 30 years and continue to improve their facilities all along the way. And if it's friends you are looking for, come on out and see all the "Old Guys And Gals" who are still jumping, still belly flying and still trying to help the newbies stay safe and have a good time to boot. Go get current Nick and come out and see the friendships that are abound on the DZ today. Take off the old fogie glasses and get out here and skydive. Then after about 10 jumps if you still feel the same way you can always go back to sitting on the side lines and complaining about something you no longer have an interest in. Come out and I will buy you your first jump back into the sport. If you don't have a smile on your face afterwords I will kiss your ass...... 17. There is a memorial movie about Joe Faulk. Here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-GDy1_MlHs RIP Joe Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  18. So glad that everything worked out all right for all of you. Hope we didn't hurt your livers too much afterwords. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  19. You are very welcome. I am so happy that this turned out the way it did as it is so obvious that it could have been disasterous. I can't wait to hear what the inspection of the rig turns up. It is puzzling how the reserve got deployed. The forces involved must have been huge. By the way. To all who read this. Tim Farnum is the bad spot guy at the airport and he recovered all three mains which were scattered about the city of Perris. One was even on top of a two story roof. Tim was also being chased by the Perris Police at the time. When they finally caught up to him they let him off with a warning. Tim is a hero at Perris for his hard work and skill in recovering cut-away mains and related reserve gear. I think he is owed a special thanks for his efforts as he is not paid all that well and could use some extra tip money when he saves someone's very expensive gear. He very seldom get's a tip of any kind when he does that. Next time your main is brought back to the airport by Bad Spot Tim you should reward him for his efforts. After all he just saved you a heck of a lot of money. June 28th, Air Trash will be honoring Tim for all his hard work. It will be Bad Spot Tim Farnum Appreciation Day. There will be a jar passed around to collect cash for Tim. We are hoping that this will compensate him a little for all he has done. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? 20. Thanks for that. I edited, narrated and posted the video for the team as an incredible learning aid. I have limited crw experience. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  21. "You got a deal. I was trained by Terry Ward. Sparky" Welcome back to the sport Mike! Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  22. Sorry I had the video down over night. It's back up now. Thanks to Mike Teague for being there to help Frank and for doing such a good job of capturing this video. A lot can be learned from this. Green Light "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
