  1. Wouldn't like that at all. Also, by doing it he's never gonna learn how to keep himself there without grabbing on. Sounds like he needs some more practice and perhaps a different suit for the big ones.
  2. I suppose all the hotties are going to be kissing on JC again too. Midwest Freefly Legend and Pimp Daddy is more like it.
  3. "Because there is MORE risk for a heavier a person. And their seems to be a sharp spike at around 200ish pounds. " I agree. Especially on a hot day with no wind. Being our smallest TI I can take a significantly larger passenger than the others. Getting a 260lb person out the door of a 182 is physically challenging (even worse if they are a foot taller than me), managing them under canopy is more difficult, and landing them softly has a much smaller margin for error than a smaller passenger. With a 100lb girl I'm WL at .8. With 260lb I'm at 1.3.
  4. Quote "significant percentage of riggers"? reply] How in the world could you even claim to know that this is or is not the case?
  5. We've had the same problem with our Precision 365's. They fly and land beautifully but the openings leave a lot to be desired. I have found that you can control them throughout deployment with the risers and help a little bit.
  6. "wearing a ring on a skydive doesn't. theres no reason you need to wear it on a skydive" Because wearing my ring gives great pleasure to my wife and I'm willing to take a very small risk to give her that pleasure. I think 1 in 1000 is probably far from the actual number. How many people do you know that have lost a finger from skydiving with their ring on?
  7. "more incidents that can be traced back to what will ultimately be deemed negligent behavior and I'm sure lawyers will be making money" But the thing is, almost every single incident that happens is a result of negligent behaviour. Very, very rarely is an incident just a random fluke. They are almost always caused by operator error. Whether it be a mistake made on the ground prior or when faced with crisis. I'll agree that a DZO who puts money ahead of safety is a fool but I think this is more of an exception than the rule.
  8. Why do people fault DZO's for trying to make a profit? Would you be willing to work for free? It may be a weekend hobby for most, but for the DZO, its what puts food on the table.
  9. http://www.uspa.org/contact/BODminutes/BODMin0206.pdf According to the minutes from the March 2006 BOD meeting, page 10, there were more fatalities in your glory years of the 60s and 70s. Since membership now is more than twice what it was then, I would say that your perception of needless death these days is fairly wrong.
  10. "PEOPLE WHO WEAR RINGS SHOULD TAKE UP BOWLING!!!!" Your right, so should all the swoopers, base jumpers, people who jump without AAD's or RSL's, and throw out those TI's that take fat and old people too.
  11. "The jump is from a Cessna with an 80-year old. IMO this is the stuff that eventually gets us all in trouble." In your opinion, at what age should we mandate that people stop jumping? Other than the instructor's exit and drogue toss being lame, I didn't see anything wrong.
  12. "why wear a ring and risk losing a finger?" Why jump and risk death or serious injury? I mean if your going to stop doing something to lower your risk, that would be the best way. How many fingers have been ripped off while skydiving? Lots of things could happen. Millions of jumps every year, and how many times has it happened.
  13. Well sometimes I only bring home $200 a weekend but it can be $1000 on a boogie weekend. When my wife wants something new she says, "whats going on at the dz this weekend?" I can't believe some people call paying for a jump fun.
  14. "I thought it was a drug test, but a friend of mine told me it was for something else" I believe it was for blood sugar to see if your diabetic.
  15. If it were a choice between a huge Manta and a reasonably loaded Stiletto it might be worth debating. But there are so many middle ground canopies that can address your possible scenarios, why not just pick a Sabre2, Pilot, Navigator, or similar canopy.
  16. I come from a dz where Stilettos are very popular among the up jumpers. It seems to us that most of the "spinetto" incidents requiring cut away seem to come from old line sets and subterminal openings. I have also heard that SDC used Stilettos for students but haven't seen it myself. I love Stilettos on women
  17. "I feel like crap - like it's all my fault. " No way. Its all her fault! She is the one with a problem and she stole from you. You were trying to help. Addicts have a way of making you feel like the bad guy. Believe me, your not.
  18. "Intentional back-to-earth or vertical orientations that cause tandem freefall speeds exceeding that of droguefall are prohibited." It doesn't say back to earth is ok if tandem terminal is not exceeded. It says back to earth OR vertical orientations. I agree that a backloop off the tailgate is a quick and easy way to get out but its not the easiest or the safest. Backing out would be the quickest and most stable.
  19. "Intentional back-to-earth or vertical orientations that cause tandem freefall speeds exceeding that of droguefall are prohibited." By the way this is worded, you could argue that intentional flips on exit are prohibited.
  20. "Doesn't everyone find outboard tandem pads difficult to grab? Or is it just me?" I used to have difficulty with this until someone showed me that if you just sinch the chest strap tighter it will bring the handles into a better place, well for me anyway. But this may not help all body types.
  21. "until Homer Simpson like laziness overtakes us" Just because someone doesn't share the same passion as you for keeping track of details does not mean they are lazy. There is nothing wrong with keeping "very accurate details of each jump." However there is nothing wrong or lazy about not doing so.
  22. Thats a little different. It might be a liability issue for you though if there is a problem.
  23. The Reflex was sized for a 135, that was one of the issues people had with instructor using the 190 main. He was told by several people that it wasn't a good idea.
  24. The rig was a Reflex. Purchased from an experienced jumper. Unfortunately I don't know the size of the reserve at the moment but will get it. I don't believe it was a 126.
