  1. No, still following the other thread. Broke this off to get a better understanding of the differences between the units. the other thread is mostly about the GPS issues more so than anything else as of late, separate form the results. So Basically the two units do the same data but FlySight gives live in flight performance feedback. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  2. The discussions in the US Performance cup thread has me wondering about the two units I have heard the most about, the Wintec WBT-201 and the FlySight. The latter was used at the Elsinore event with some issues and the Wintec was brought up in that thread as one previously used in competitions. It seems that the "talk" is that the FlySight is now the preferred unit and at ~$250 it is much more then the Wintec at ~$90. What advantage is it that the Flysight offers? Since I don't own either unit, my only perception of the difference is that the Flysight can offer audible signals to provide performance feedback DURING a flight which can provide some great performance feedback and improvements. Additionally it is being developed to give directions to a waypoint. I am assuming that there are more reasons that the FlySight is now preferred over the Wintec but I don't know. Is the data outputted to paralog the same? If so, is the Feedback you can get while flying the only big difference? Who has used both and has some thoughts? Scott C. 3. I have seen that the Wintec was used a lot in the past and have no idea if this would have offered a different result? Separate from if it would have been different, It brings up an interesting question though as to what advantage that the Flysight offers? Having not looked into them much since I don't own either unit, my only perception of the difference is that the Flysight can offer audible signals to provide performance feedback real time during a flight. I think it can even give directions to a waypoint, though that is being beta tested I hear. There might be more to it but is the data outputted to paralog the same? The event was fun and I think the organizers did a good job dealing with the technical issues. It was great to see a lot of old and new friends and I look forward to another opportunity to participate in an event like this.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  4. I just checked and Omniskore does not have the teams up on the site for 4-way? How am I going to get my "I need to know what is going on" fix filled? Skydive TV is up to date with videos from yesterday? They are doing a nice job reporting.. Good Luck to all the teams competing Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

    A new greenie

    Congratulations Bill and Amy!!
  6. My profile pic is after what Matt noted ... I was just minding my business in the flock, in my slot then BAMMM. I was a target that year it seemed. Scott C. Edited to add Matt was NOT involved in that hit, dont want it to seem like I was saying he was. Separate things.. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  7. Hey what do you know, you're talking about some students I taught.... I would love to see every student wave off, but they do not always do it. In each and every course I have done over the years, the jumpers were absolutely taught about using the legs to wave off given the restrictions that arm wings and symmetry present. Here is another First Flight Video for a jumper making that initial jump, and he waves off. http://www.youtube.com/user/sdctlc?ob=5#p/u/8/YZ5HeqV8J_4 With every course jumpers are told that the FFC is not going to instantly teach them to Flock or fly vertically or Back Fly or any number of additional skills basic to advanced and to be able to do these, there are a good number of additional needed skills as they progress to be able to safely participate in these fun aspects of flying a wingsuit for which additional training will be needed. I look at the FFC as a place to accomplish a number things, but maybe most importantly pulling back the curtain on some of the "scary things" people may have misconceptions with about flying a wingsuit. To accomplish this you work to give them the skills that will allow them to successfully make one wingsuit flight. These include but are not limited to safely exiting the plane, having/gaining the confidence to know they can reach the PC with a level of stability for deployment, insight on stability while in flight, importance on navigation not only back to the LZ but also to avoid the other jumpers and canopies with the line of flight "red zone", to learn some of the tools for instability along with emergency procedures as they relate to wingsuiting. These skills all combine with the knowledge that have learned over the previous 200+ jumps to hopefully let them have an enjoyable jump following which they will want to make more jumps in a wingsuit. Astra AAD

I looked on the ASTRA page and the only inherent logic that seems to be in place: 4.1.3 Once the unit is calibrated, it will 'ARM' itself automatically during climbing but 'ONLY' after reaching 1700 feet above that ground level (AGL). http://www.pia.com/fxc/astrindx.htm#advantage Also I remember there was an incident a number of years ago where a ASTRA saved a jumper who was injured and waited for it to fire. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2720494;search_string=ASTRA;#2720494 All AAD's are a back up IMHO and can be subject to a failure or missfire. The ultimate responsibility lies in your own hands. Scott C. Edited to add, I have an ASTRA on a spare rig and have a Cypress in my main rig. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  9. Maybe Spot or Jarno can provide for a more complete listing of the suits they are considering for the two categories. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  10. On the Posting of the event I saw it was noted as follows: Two Classes: ***Intermediate Class (for smaller suits) Phantom Ghost 2 S-series T-Bird FYB Etc ***Open Class (Large suits Ghost 3 or larger Looks like a fun event and still seeing if I can arrange my schedule but hoping to make it. Nice to see one of these set up in the states.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  11. Actually no, the WSI was spearheaded and championed to the USPA by Spot. A high level of motivation came from two very unfortunate incidents he was close to for various reasons. His desire to increase safety in the sport has lead him to being involved with developing first the Phoenix Fly Coach program and then morph it over to and expand upon it to what is now the Skydive Elsinore Wingsuit School. "WSI" does not have anything to do with Tony Suits or PF or any other manufacturer. There was a group of about 6 people involved in putting it together "think tank" style that Sport helped coordinate. Each person ended up contributing to the presentation of a WSI rating that was made to the USPA BOD. The end result was not a rating but instead an addition/expansion in the SIM with what is now Section 6-9: Wingsuit Recommendations. Wingsuit First Flight Course (FFC) Syllabus http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section6/tabid/169/Default.aspx#984 I'm not in favor of more regulation either, but at least with USPA-designed/collated training, training would be consistent, instructors could be held accountable, and instructors would be tested or have documented evidence of their training for their renewals every year just as we are now. ............... If nothing else, hopefully a better educational focus on the part of the USPA will help reduce the number of "stooge instructors" that are out there. The List that WW is working on generating is something that could be good in helping people get the instruction they might be looking for and can be looked at as another step forward in helping increase safety opportunities for jumpers wanting to fly a Wingsuit. The only semi-valid argument on the effectiveness of "Instructors" or "coaches" is one that can be applied to ANY generated list. There is nothing to stop someone from stamping themselves as a "person of knowledge" given no regulated WSI rating exists. Pulling brand or personal issues into this thread is plain stupid and defeats the purpose of what Simon is trying to do. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  12. And Chuck comes swooping in as the voice of reason...
  13. Simon, come on now, this has to be filled with evil thinking and devious motivations.. Look at the look on your face in the avatar, it looks very evil... what would you expect? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  14. That is a bit of a stretch to get to that point you obviously wanted to make in this thread...... Going from a thread about flying the crack and the suit used to that is what is confusing Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  15. Wow, even after all this time it does not take long to get a "Splatwing" comment. I have owned a number of them and currently use one in my second rig. I have approx 1500'ish jumps on Batwings in various sizes from the 98 to the 171 with ~1200 on the 134 size. Really was a great canopy when it came out and seemed to have regional pockets of support. I was defiantly an outlier in the Pacafic NW with the canopy In terms of comparable performance, it did not go into a turn quite as fast as a "Spin"itteo but the openings were (are) much better. I was able to get very good swoops on it but found the recovery arc is very quick and it does not like diving as the Front Riser pressure is pretty high as the turn goes beyond 90 especially with the 2 bigger sizes. I am happy to jump mine whenever I need my second rig and always keep my eyes open for a good deal on a 134 in the Picasso pattern with Green and white underside! If your lucky you can get one with the Bat on the bottom still in good shape, damn I really loved that canopy.....

  17. OMG, Is it True? VB said something that we all can agree on Charlie, do what he said next time!
  18. You mean like the Unit? I made about 1400 jumps on Units, not a single chop. But yeah, just like the Unit. Wait a minute, my Unit was much more a double end cell closure canopy. Sniveled a bit but always had to pump the breaks for a fully inflated canopy.. Now, I did have a Batwing 116 that had the precision oversized slider and it would snivel till I pumped the breaks. The slider would then "rocket" down and smack my knuckles, ouch..... As a side, with that snivel I am amazed it never seemed to want to go into twists. How are the handles set up on that? Do you have any closer pictures? "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

    FWC

WOW, why so bitter? You also got very snide/snipy in a number of posts when another "coach" course was announced, why the Hate? Working towards better more effective training should be applauded. Also having options like this one and the PFC course along with "school" options should be looked at as an opportunity to raise overall standards for wingsuits. Like it or in your case not, this concept is something that is working and there is apparently a demand for it. I will have to take a look in the swooping forum, but are you also taking this same approach towards other discipline specific training or schools like canopy flight schools. Oh well, it seems that other then complaining about a price associated with the "rating" or I guess more accurately a rating/organization/continuity of training in general, YOU do not really have anything to say about the concept that is constructive. Too bad.... Scott "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

    FWC

I agree, nice job on re working the website and updating the Flock U FWC system. A nice level of continuity with the FFC and coach system can't be a bad thing. Scott "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  22. Nice pic but only one guy on his back at the bottom, what kind of challenge is that other then letting the bottom buy not feel so lonely. All the stack flyers should be be back flying referencing the top guy. Really turn it upside down, much higher PLINKO factor..... Well, OK, you have to start some where, have the top guy belly flying with all the rest stacked (hanging) under him on their backs. There is a starting point for the Future! 24. Ok....I will bring some PBR PBR Pounder Racks at Costco for under $18.00. Hard to pass on a suprisingly retro beer gaining in popularity at happy hours around the country in a 24 x 16oz Cary case...... Hangover be damned, long live the PBR Pounder Pack!! Oh, to the OP, you already answered your question about DZ's in one of the posts and you should think "Z". You have been hanging out there and you already have some ties. Get the license and you can be the newbie at a new DZ or even multiple DZ's with a that license. Ties established to your local Home DZ and then you can travel and find the fun you can find. Scott C.
