  1. cowboy, man a guy livin in the frozen tundra of Alberta should know that one ;)
  2. What time frame do you want to do 100 jumps? I love Mile high, but it does not turn as fast as I would like. Perris turns fast, but I believe it is more expensive then other places to do hnps. Elsinore is a weekend operation but has a great vibe. Good-luck and remember; quality not quantity.
  3. Student Canopy 1-9 PD190 10-100 Stiletto 150 (WL=1.1) 101-200 Stiletto 135 (WL=1.3) 201-500 Crossfire (1) 105 (actually~98) (WL~1.8) 501-1100 Velocity 84 (WL = 2.1-2.6) 1100-2000 JVX.2 83 (WL = 2.2 -2.6) 2000-2200 JVX.2 77 (WL = 2.6 - 3.0) 2200-2400+ These are just rough numbers. I too down-sized 2fast! Greg
  4. JVX 77 (full sail) wl = 2.7 turn = 450, alt = 1150ft turn = 270, alt = 800ft 1500ft ASL

  6. Remember 2 carry ons are allowed: Get a day bag (with rollers), pack your base rig and laptop into this and any extra camera that will fit. I recommend getting a Samsonite hardcase. Carry your second rig on your back. Pack helmets and clothes in large suitcase. Most airlines will also allow two check ins so two large bags will allow you to distribute the weight. Happy journeys!! Be safe Greg
  7. FAA rules state: When aircraft of different categories are converging, the less maneuverable aircraft has the right of way. We all know that tandems are less maneuverable, so this blanket rule does protect them. I too jump at a large commercial dz and we had a problem with the tandems flying over the pond a couple of years ago. However, after talking with the school, all the TIs stayed clear of the pond. I know no one wants to hear it but....separate landing areas would resolve your situation.
  8. This is not true Bill, I always land at the pond and 99% of the time Tim (or someone else) is there to pick me up.
  9. Landing on rear risers is an excellent survival skill to have, especially for the circumstances previously stated. An alternative approach for this specific incident would have been to grab the steering line above the guide ring (if physically possible) and fly/ land the canopy that way. Fly safe
  10. I have never had the cocoon issue myself. I find at higher wing loadings (~2.5) on my old 83 was brisker, but my 77 (wl = 2.7) seams to like a little more speed. The reality is; if you are flying an ultra-performance (JVX, Velo...) expect to have ultra-performance openings.
  11. Are you going to CO in June? I may or may not go depending on when I get back in the air..... How was your first weekend back? Take care bro
  12. I had my hardware removed yesterday here is a pic of what was removed (my original post had an error, as there was 9 screws total). I should be back in the air in about 3 weeks.
  13. This is completely necessary, however, I believe that this should be tiered system. Starting with basics to intermediate (CI 1), then intermediate to advanced (CI 2)and finishing with a CI-3 advanced to expert (high performance landings). This would allow people to learn how to teach (and observe) canopy piloting effectively in a relatively safe manner.
  14. I can't comment on Otay, however, at Perris you rarely get moved around as Dan does an amazing job at coordinating all parties involved. I have been able to back up the same aircraft for 8 consecutive jumps, with no gripping. oh jumps are $15 to 4-4.5K, with an occasional 3.5K (once every 40-50 jumps) and the occasional 7-8K (about the same frequency).
  15. So "rigger rob" was this prior to you rigger rating? btw It was great seeing you again at the CWC last month. Drop me a line, take care bro G
  16. I always practice my emergency prior to exit, I complete my skydive mentally several times prior to boarding and during the ride up. Prior to a day of skydiving I never say "good-bye" to my wife only "I will see you soon."
  17. Does BAS = Bad Ass Swooper? or is this Byron?
  18. This was a e-mail I received regarding the May 5th event: The next meet will be Saturday May 5, 2007. Registration will close Friday night May 4, 2007 at 6:00 PM. Come see me in Square One again. I will not take any registrations on Saturday morning. We are looking at a sunrise start. Most likely at 6:00 AM. I will confirm the start time when we get closer to the beginning of May. There is a RW Big Way Camp going on in Perris so we have to be done and out of the way ASAP. If you can't make the Friday night registration, Let me know. Just email me at this address and we can work something out. [email protected] We had 20 people registered for the April event, however, due to weather it was canceled. Hope to see ya all out there in May!
  19. I have found the Canadian officials to incompetent and rather rude to say the least. I have actually been detained because I refused to open my reserve and I refused to give them permission to open it. I had to wait for the supervising officer to get off his break. Once he finished his at least 45 min. "break" he cleared me to go with a magical wave of his hand. I subsequently missed my flight . This occurred at YVR, however, I have had trouble at YEG also. As they tried to take my weight belt. With in the states, I have been questioned, asked to open my main and my reserve. But just ask for the supervisor and it seams to go away. btw It is not in the instruction manual but if you want those "cypress cards" to work you must process them in a shredder first then apply fire.
  20. Here are a couple of photos I took up in British Columbia Canada of Andreas Tize while speed-flying his GLX135. What a trip, I had not skied for 10 years and on my second run Andreas guides me to drop into a double black diamond, so we can later launch from a bowl in the run. Who needs enemies when you've got friends like that that. But what an amazing place to fly!! Oh ya... and the skiing was pretty good too!
