  1. Hi everybody, Thanks for all the helpful advice so far
  2. The appraisal was completed at the end of September. Now they're insisting we go to this dinner to talk about it before they will transfer the money. I'm quite unhappy with the way they're handling this. Apparently they feel betrayed because I went around them to have the numbers checked before I signed anything instead of just asking them. But I know they would have insisted the numbers were right and reassured me that the calculations were correct. If I go to this dinner without a neutral party, they'll try to convince me to either forgive the debt or tell me they'll pay me over time. They won't stop until they win. PULL!! or DIE!!
  3. That's what I was thinking, too. They seem to always have an excuse for why the payment is late. And when I called the lawyer to get a copy of the mortgage agreement, details and the report, they wouldn't or couldn't provide them, and were all of a sudden, HIS lawyer, not OUR lawyer, even though all 3 of our names appear on most of the paperwork. Big red flag. If they don't start transferring payments by the end of the week, or I don't have a signed agreement, it's back to the drawing board with the whole thing. But I'm not signing my name off ANYTHING until I see a whole lot of '0's in my bank account. PULL!! or DIE!!
  4. Correct, 2/3 to them, 1/3 to me. That's why the appraisal was done, 1. For them to refinance a further renovation, and 2. To buy me out. PULL!! or DIE!!
  5. Hi everybody, So, another update. They agreed to wire me the balance of my initial downpayment this week, and pay me the rest of my share of the equity over 12 months. The appraisal was agreed upon as a condition of the buyout, and to refinance the mortgage without me. It gets a bit more complicated. My sister's boyfriend owns a marketing company, so he's VERY good at, and has spent thousands of dollars learning how to persuade people. So I'm at a disadvantage. Which is why I asked some impartial family members, as impartial as can be, anyway, to reason with him. I know he'd convince me they don't owe me anything. He still hasn't wired the balance, and he's invited my girlfriend and I over for dinner next week, to mend fences. I'm afraid this might be another ploy to get out of paying me, before any agreements on paper, are signed. He clearly thinks this is a game he can win, and doesn't seem to care that he's pitting our family against each other, and using this against me. PULL!! or DIE!!
  6. Hi All, So we have an update. They figured out my sister's boyfriend miscalculated the mortgage payout. They owe me almost double what he originally offered me. He now apparently feels betrayed by my parents, had some choice words with my Dad, who was then asked to leave. They've agreed to pay me the rest of my initial downpayment, and pay me the balance of the equity over the next 12 months. I should also mention, that once I found out I was moving, my girlfriend suggested I should prepare to talk to an accountant or lawyer just in case this thing went sideways. I tried calling the mortgage broker, and our lawyer to get my own copies of the mortgage agreement, and the appraisal report that they were basing my payout on. I was stonewalled by both the lawyer and the broker, even though my name is on almost all of the documents. Wouldn't give me ANYTHING. This was almost 2 months ago, right before I moved out. Then, when I insisted on seeing the appraisal report before I signed anything on Friday, my sister's boyfriend forwarded me a copy of the assessment Thursday afternoon, from the mortgage broker who told me they didn't have any of this documentation. They tried to screw me, they got caught, and now they're pissed at everyone but themselves. I'm lucky and glad the rest of my family is starting to get behind me on this. Not sure I'd have been able to handle it on my own. . . . PULL!! or DIE!!
  7. Hi guys, I wanted to get some opinions from you experts on how to handle something that's been stopping me from sleeping. I'll try to keep it brief. My sister and I have been living together, splitting rent in a few different places for the last 3 or 4 years. Two years ago, she, her boyfriend and I decided to buy a house together, splitting the downpayment. The agreement was that after at least one year, any one of us could ask to be bought out, and be paid our share of the increase in equity. We each put up $10,000. It's been difficult. They've treated me like a tenant when they feel like it, asking me for small favours & trying to control how I used my unit. But treated me like a homeowner any time a large bill came in, often slapping me with $1,000+ bills randomly every couple of months. Which always seemed to coincide with them come after they returned from a vacation or bought a big ticket item; appliances, or a new vehicle. They got pregnant and she had my nephew, while we were renovating the house, about $23,000 worth of renovations, to move in. He was 5 weeks premature, so he had a hard time sleeping and I could hear him up most nights. Anyway, fast forward almost 2 years, I love the little bugger, and I was his first word. They've gotten pregnant again, and just had twins. I decided that was enough, didn't want to live through that again, and moved out 3 weeks ago. I told them 6 months ago I wanted out, and they would need to buy me out. They had the house appraised 2 months ago to calculate the increase in equity to pay me my share. Her boyfriend told me the increase in value was about $51,000. I've been chasing him around since I moved out 6 weeks ago for a copy of the report that proved that, meanwhile, they cut me a cheque for $8200. (We factored in a $1634 property tax bill they dropped on me, I couldn't afford at the time, to be cut from my payout. That's fine). I got the copy of the appraisal report Thursday afternoon. He booked an appointment for Friday afternoon with the lawyer to sign my name off the title. And has been constantly pushing me to confirm and go to the appointment and sign the papers. I had my stepmother who is a financial advisor, and my step-brother help me check through the numbers before I signed anything. It turned out the house was appraised at $74000 increase in value, not the $51,000 he told me. Might not be the best move, but I've tried to let the financial experts in the family figure it out. Until they did, I've been on radio silence with my sister and her boyfriend until this is figured out. They've been very manipulative, trying to appeal to my emotions by baiting me with my nieces and nephew. We're going to agree on a payment schedule tomorrow. How do I face these people, knowing that they tried to screw me out of almost $9,000, and still maintain a strong relationship with their kids? I should mention that a good number of others in my family now feel terrible, after strongly helping convince me that buying a house with them was the right financial move. I want to be tactful, but it feels great, knowing that Karma has caught up to them. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
  8. Damn, Why didn't I think of this?? https://ca.movies.yahoo.com/crowdfunded-movie-makers-take-money-and-spend-it-on-champagne-and-holidays-112946960.html PULL!! or DIE!!
  9. Hi everyone, I agree. I've noticed a considerable decline in the number of belly fliers or FS/RW jumpers at my DZ. That may be due to the fact that we are now a two-cessna DZ which used to be a summer turbine DZ. I find my enthusiasm for jumping waning, and catch myself doing a lot more solos or low passes, just to get in the air. I've sometimes wondered if it's because my skills have suffered since I have fewer people to do belly RW with. It's difficult to think that I'd have to drive even further (2+ hrs) to make quality belly or 4-way jumps with people I don't know. Apologies for hijacking a FF thread PULL!! or DIE!!
  10. How about demoing another canopy in the same size? Or even a different SA2 in the same size? Have a rigger check the trim. Have an experienced packer watch you pack. I'd try all of that before trying to cure the issue with downsizing. Even maybe have a more experienced jumper/rigger put a couple jumps on it, at the same or different W/L. Might give you more insight. Good luck.
  11. In Canada, I believe you need a minimum of a Coach 1 rating, and then the Ground Control Instructor (GCI) rating. Normally, our DZO is the one operating the radio. http://www.cspa.ca/en/ratings/become-instructor/gci PULL!! or DIE!!
  12. Hi Everybody, Looking for some feedback/advice from the DZ.com masses. So I've been working for the same non-profit government organization on contract for the last 7 years. They created 3 permanent, full time positions last year after I questioned the new CEO about why long-term, full time staff are still on a contract basis and can't be offered permanent positions with the company. I was asked and took one of these positions after my managers assured me I'd be in the exact same role with the same responsibilities. There was a fair bit of backlash & bitterness from the other long-term contract staff, that I was chosen, and they weren't. One of the other positions was also given to someone from outside the company, so that didn't help. Fast forward a year later, now they're promoting that person to our manager after less than a year with the company, and completely changing my role without asking me. "We want you to start doing this, because this person is moving to another department". No discussion about salary, negotiation, nothing. The biggest drawback is, I normally speak 2 languages in my role, which is why I got and took the job in the first place. Now that's no longer necessary. I feel like this is a bit of a dick move from the company, and a waste of my knowledge and skills. They've asked me to keep an open mind and try it for 6 months, but no real discussion about what happens if I decide I hate it. I REALLY don't want to leave, the company has great benefits, vacation time, and a pension, but I also know I can't spend the next 30 years of my career, doing something I hate everyday. Any suggestions about how I can handle this tactfully without jeopardizing my career? Thanks folks! PULL!! or DIE!!
  13. Search out the Raw Dogs on Facebook. They've been running successful pups camps for the last 3 or so years that get a Crwbie from their 1st CRW to their 4-stack award in a weekend. PULL!! or DIE!!
  14. Thanks for the suggestions guys! We worked mainly on side-slides, knee-only turns, trying to break my bad habit of twisting my torso, and even some tracking practice. It was great to see & feel the difference in force, angle & speed that changes with your body position in a track. I felt like it was definitely worth the money to hire a coach to brush up on things & remind me of what bad habits to watch out for. Hopefully now I can make good use of the time at Summerfest!! Cheers!! PULL!! or DIE!!
  15. Howdy, That sounds like it might be an interesting exercise. I've done a few drills with hands behind my back, legs only, etc. I don't freefly at all, I tried about a half hour on my back once, it was a very messy situation. I feel like I should stick to what I'm good at for now. Thanks! PULL!! or DIE!!
  16. Hi guys, I'm looking for a few tips. I've booked 15 minutes of tunnel time for tonight and 15 minutes of coached tunnel time tomorrow night to shake the rust off before Summerfest. I'm looking for some ideas for solo drills I can do to warm up. I haven't done more than about 20 jumps so far this year, mostly small belly RW. Which is probably what I'll be sticking with at Summerfest, maybe work my way into some bigger dives, but nothing likely bigger than 20-way. Can anyone recommend some good drills or exercises I can work on? I'm not too sure the tunnel rats will let me practice tracking in the tunnel when I haven't done more than about 30 minutes of time this year. I'll have no trouble planning out 2-way drills with my coach tomorrow, but I want to make good use of my time and at least make an effort to brush up on my skills before heading to a big boogie like Summerfest. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
  17. These are making the rounds on FB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKO8sf5xgOI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md-P4HBUUKY&feature=youtu.be He will be missed. PULL!! or DIE!!
  18. Maybe this doesn't make a difference, but I feel like I should clarify. I live in the basement apartment of the house with my sister and her fiancé. We have a shared entrance and laundry, but that's about it. Separate bedroom, kitchen, livingroom, bathroom and I have a walk-out patio. The thing I'm mostly concerned with about my room-mates and their baby, is noise. I can keep the dog downstairs either in a crate in our laundry room, my living-room or bedroom, our tied up outside on the patio. But as I said, mostly I'll be walking him, and he wouldn't be anywhere NEAR the child unsupervised. I'd just try to avoid a known aggressive breed for my own peace of mind. I'll look for a lab mix or something like that and keep getting more input from the shelter staff about what I should look for. Thanks! PULL!! or DIE!!
  19. I've done a few quizzes online, and the Dogtime quiz that N@ posted. Top 3 breeds were an American Water Spaniel, Brittany, and an English Cocker Spaniel. That helps narrow it down, but I'm probably going to end up adopting from a shelter, so it's unlikely that I'd find a purebred anyway. If I keep an eye out for a mixed breed in any of the above, the shelter also recommended a lab mix, I could look around, take them for a walk to see how they behave a little and go from there. I have a separate unit with a walk-out into an unfenced yard, so I can let him out and tie him up, but mostly I'll be walking him, unless he needs walked at 5 am. I'm planning to do obedience training too, but I don't want to make it harder on myself than I have to. Thanks so much for all the info, everything so far really helps me know what to look for and what NOT to look for. PULL!! or DIE!!
  20. My room-mates actually just had a baby together, we have an essentially separate living space, but we're family and spend a fair bit of time together. Call me closed-minded, but you might be right, I'm not sure how keen we'd be to bring a pitbull into the house with a 2 month-old. I appreciate all the helpful tips and suggestions. The search continues. . . . . . Quote PULL!! or DIE!!
  21. Hey gang, I've just moved into the basement unit of a house, and I should be staying put for the next 2-3 years, and I'm thinking about adopting a new dog. Can you guys give me some good tips of what I should look out for while I'm adopting? I'm looking for a medium-sized, young adult dog, that doesn't shed TOO much. Do any of you guys have info on what might be a good breed in a moderately active dog? I do a lot of running, walking & swimming in the summer, so a dog I could take with me to do SOME of that stuff would be great. I've been advised to avoid the herding breeds(border collies, shepherds, etc.) I work about 40 minutes away from home, for 7.5-8 hours a day, so I'd be able to walk it at least twice a day. Any suggestions about what breeds I should be looking out for and any potential medical problems common to certain breeds? Any other info you guys could give me about being a new dog owner would be great!! Cheers! PULL!! or DIE!!

  23. Hi Medic, That action warps/distorts the canopy. CRW dogs use this technique all the time to 'park' next to a building formation while they're waiting for their slot to build. I'm not sure what other reason you'd use this technique. Hope this helps. PULL!! or DIE!!
