  1. He looked so happy to have had a cutaway :) Cheers, Travis
  2. This is the old staff page from mile hi. It must be archived somehwere because its not mile hi's current website. He's most of the way down the page. This website was from a long time ago though, many of those folks don't work at MH anymore or have passed. http://www.ecentral.com/members/jsands/staff.html Cheers, Travis
  3. This is shitty. I got a call yesterday afternoon to let me in on the details since I'm not living in CO right now. He really was a solid solid guy. I can't say one bad word about his character and I don't think anyone else could either. I remember whenever we saw each other in the mornings before a long day of tandems the first thing he always said was "Hey kid-o." Ugh... Blue ones... Cheers, Travis
  4. Just a last resort thought...you actually want the knee reinforcement just a touch lower than you would think because when you kneel down it will be where you need to protect your knee of the suit. THat's the main reason for knee reinforcement. You may have tried it, but this could also be improved with having a rig on too. Cheers, Travis
  5. Simple solution. I have done this on numerous jumpsuits I've owned since I don't buy a lot of new stuff due to the wait time on jumpsuits. You have to have a sewing machine for this though. Simply turn the pants inside out. Then...fold the cuffs and lower legs back inside themselves about a foot or even less. Do this to both legs and pin them in place so that you'll have an even legnth on each hem. Then run the sewing machine however far in completely around that folded back portion of the pants to "take" some of the fabric in the legs "in." Turn the pants back rightside out and you're good. If they still are too long, do that same process, but just do the next row of stitching a little further in from the first row. I think my description makes no sense. Ask if you need more help. Or simply ask a local rigger to take out some legnth. The nice thing about this way is that if you ever sell them or need to let them out for any reason, you simply pick the stitches out and the pants return to normal. This can be done with sleeves as well. Cheers, Travis
  6. I had a 97 sq ft. crossfire2 that I was loading around 1.9/1. I LOVED the way it flew. I heard from lots of folks that I was at the edge of the performance envelope for that canopy, but...even if I was, I loved it. That canopy was loud as hell too! Cheers, Travis
  7. Use a razor. It shouldn't be difficult at all. Precision. Precision. Cheers, Travis
  8. Simon Wade out of Las Vegas does courses and will travel if you get a group together. I did it a few years ago. Affordable and I learned alot. Plus Simon is a character. His number is 702-277-5273 Cheers, Travis
  9. Pilotdave is correct in thinking about it from the Sigma drogue release standpoint. Sigma drogue releases are constructed of the same material as the new reserve ripcords and the sigma drogue releases that I've seen have literally been used and used for thousands of jumps with no wear. That means they get yanked on THOUSANDS of times and lord knows that tandem gear gets dirty, beat up, and destroyed just as much as student gear and the drogue release ripcord still holds up with little to no wear. I've helped replace two Sigma drogue release ripcords ever in over four years of rigging Sigmas and that was due to the elastic shock cord wearing out from so many pulls and you can only replace the shock cord so many times before you destroy the ripcord material. Aside from replacing the shockcord, though, the ripcord still holds true even if that shock cord breaks. Reserve ripcords only get pulled here and there and get inspected at each repack. That's nothing compared to the thousands of jumps you can get out of a sigma drogue release. After a thousands reserve ripcord pulls...ANY reserve ripcord should be retired ;) This is just speculation, but I'd venture to say that a standard capewell reserve ripcord would rust out long before a spectra reserve ripcord would wear out. My 2 cents. Cheers, Travis
  10. I believe that would be called Dupont SolarMax fabric. It has soarcoat that blocks/absorbs UV rays thus preventing it from entering the actual fabric. I think this is what PD uses. Cheers, Travis
  11. I haven't seen anything mentioned thus far about the differences in line types as far as "forgiveness" of hard openings. I definitely think that the wear factor has lead to a slow adoption of HMA on "midrange" canopies. I would also argue that the ability of dacron and microline (spectra) to stretch on opening thus taking up a bit of the opening forces rather than your body could be another factor. HMA does not stretch nearly as much, if hardly at all, when loaded. Spectra and dacron do. I suppose this could be a similar reason that many of the midrange canopies (excluding icarus) do not use vectran since it also does not stretch much on opening. Just so I'm clear, don't confuse stretching on opening with stretching over time. Dacron stretches on opening and stretches permanently over time. Spectra stretches on opening, but tends to shrink from friction over time. HMA stretches very little on opening and only shrinks marginally over time. My 2 cents. Cheers, Travis
  12. I have 6 or 7 hundred jumps on various sizes of velocities. I LOVE that canopy. Love it. However...if I weren't swooping...there is not a chance in hell that I'd be jumping it. I'd most likely be on a Sabre 2 or spectre. Much better openings, much more predictable, and only minimally less forward drive. I love the velocity, but I would rather make life easier on myself by jumping something else if I weren't using my canopy for swooping. Cheers, Travis
  13. Swooping while watching Day's of Our Lives in one's trailer all day... HANSEN'ing Cheers, Travis
  14. Swooping while getting smacked in the crotch...KANE'ing Swooping while smacking someone in the crotch...HARRIS'ing Cheers, Travis
  15. Doing a superman over the pond then realizing you were actually not over the pond and over hard clumpy ground and walking away impotent and talking in a chipmunk voice... ADAMSing. Probably the funnest vasectomy in the history of humans though... Cheers, Travis
  16. Frost was posing a loaded question. He flies a JVX, which has no stabilizers for the reason of reducing parasitic drag. It does a nice job of that and is still super packed with lift characteristics. I think he was waiting for an opportunity to pounce, as many on here do. Cheers, Travis

    velo-2

I suppose that makes sense. You are aerodynamic and can go really fast without even trying Cheers, Travis
  18. Fuck, Time flies. I don't know what to think right now. What is odd is that I knew this time was coming around again and I've been thinking of Josh constantly. However, living away from Colorado right now, I feel as though I have been removed from the impact he had on so many people. On an individual, one-to-one level, Josh and I's relationship right now is peaceful and strong, just as it has always been. There is still a deep hurt in the bottom of my stomach that cuts like a knife that I constantly feel every time I look at my green wristband I've been wearing for him, but at the same time, I feel as though all is right. What I had not visited recently was the stinging pain that folks feel all around Colorado and other places around the world due to Josh being up and away. Man. All I want to do right now is be back in Colorado to spend time with some of the crew at the DZ who knows just how much he meant to people. I'm sending good vibes right now to everyone who was close to him and hopefully I'm silently getting those vibes back. I hope everyone takes this Halloween day to remember that crazy ape and keep the Nagasaki legacy going... I love you all. Trav Cheers, Travis
  19. Definitely Sublime, since I don't think there is a dropzone in the country that doesn't play that. But thinking back to my student days I used to listen to Moe a lot at the DZ and on the way to the DZ. If you haven't listened to Moe...check them out. Cheers, Travis
  20. I am currently in a relationship and have been for three years. My partner has only jumped once and it took me two years (I was an instructor the whole time) before I got her to do a tandem and I seriously doubt she ever will do another. That's ok...hard for me to grasp...but its ok. However... She understands my passion for the sport and knows that "loving" a sport is very different than "loving" a person. She has said that she wouldn't ask me to stop skydiving since it could possibly mean our relationship as well. She is very supportive of my sport and of course would rather I play guitar more or something, but is glad that I have something I really enjoy and our relationship has never been stronger! There is hope. Cheers, Travis
  21. It's official! I'm moving to the Northeast in two weeks. I look forward to seeing everyone out there and meeting new friends! Peace! Cheers, Travis
  22. Taken this last week. Just casual swooping while doing video. Cheers, Travis
  23. I agree with you, but at least eating them isn't torturing them. I myself am a vegetarian, but this really does bother me. I bet these folks burnt a lot of ants with a magnifying glass when they were little. Not seeing the humor of torturing an animal. I hope that this is not something that all skydivers think is funny... Sorry to be so negative, but this bothers me. Cheers, Travis
  24. I have always said if you want to kill yourself fine go right ahead and do so, you want to endanger others with your actions get the fuck off the DZ! It is no diff then if you want to jump a bed sheet, fine. if you want to hook yourself into the ground, fine do it away from where others are landing and the students don't have to watch it. Would that person with 70 jumps who pulled low not be "only endangering herself?" This must be OK from what you are saying. And yet...you reprimanded her. Caveat: I think you were correct in speaking to the person...however...to say that if a person wants to endanger themselves and you are ok with it, then why is this person an issue for you? Cheers, Travis
  25. For the record, when I said RW suit, I should have said bootie suit. It's extremely rare, if not impossible, to find a really baggy suit that also has booties. Why? Because if the legs are super baggy, there is no tension to keep the booties taut. For the record, I've seen folks use really old RW suits and they work great...they also don't have booties...they also seem to resemble today's freefly suits. For the record, I also never referred to spandex. When I was thinking bootie suit/RW suit I was thinking like a Tony Swoop Suit. I guess the "problem" with today's sport IS people like me...whippersnappers. Relax... Cheers, Travis
