  1. For me, looking to get back in the air after a long layoff, the only logbook I can locate is my little blue one with my first 100 jumps. Somewhere in all the moves over the years my Precision Freefall log has been lost and I'm bummed. At first I was bummed that I have no record of a big chunk of my jumping but what disappoints me more is not having record of all the cool, interesting people I met along the way.
  2. Very cool pictures! Was the "Amanda" mentioned in the article Amanda Tucker?
  3. I think the Merlin may have been a Pioneer canopy? Though the name does sound like it would fit with others in the product line: Hobbit and Wizard. Where's an old Paragear catalog when you need one?
  4. Hi Al, That sounds right about the re-badged Comets. I remember a couple guys using them as BASE canopies also. My pics aren't as clear but here's a couple from a demo in the mid-80's. Tim
  5. Thanks Jerry. I have a vague memory of being able to remember more in the past than I do now.
  6. Hi, Back in the 80's I put several hundred jumps on a Spirit canopy. If I recall correctly, it was made in 1981 by Gargano. I don't believe Gargano produced these canopies for too long a period before selling to Strong. Can anyone tell me if my memory is correct and possibly provide any more specific info on this little slice of parachute history? Thanks, Tim
  7. "I'm curious, what is the difference in pay for a Wisconsan teacher that has to contribute to his/her own health/retirement bennifits if they don't have to pay union dues? Or do union dues equal the additional amount they may be required to pay? James" James, Using 7% (told by superintendent to expect 6%-10% reduction in take-home pay): Reduction in take-home pay = $2300/year Union dues = $750/year Interesting times to be sure.
  8. I just finished A Hundred Feet Over Hell last night. I was completely into it from beginning to end. During the Kinh Mon battle sequence I actually had to put the book down for a bit and walk around because it was so intense! Thanks, Jim, for writing this book. Thanks also to the regular posters on this forum for your discussion of this book that made me go out and get it. -Tim
  9. I'm just a lurker by trade but THAT was one funny post!!!
