  1. I'm devastated at the sudden passing of Elijah. My thoughts and prayers are with his two young daughters, girlfriend, Danny and the rest of his family. There are many fond memories and adventures shared. Elijah helped take a bunch of British skydivers on a side trip to the Grand Canyon during a holiday boogie at Eloy a couple years ago. It was the only time I can remember a twin otter full of skydivers and nobody jumped because it was a tourist flight over the Canyon. The void left behind by his passing can be compared to the Grand Canyon. He will truly be missed and fondly remembered. Blue Skies my friend.
  2. Thank You for responding! I didn't know that and I'm in Albuquerque New Mexico, the ballooning capitol of the world! I figured there had to be another answer other than my guesses; now we know... That's what this forum is all about. Thanks for ejumacating me!
  3. Here's a dumb question that should stir up some interesting conversation. Even wuffos know what a ripcord is; so why do we call it a ripcord? A: Because you will "Rest In Peace" if you don't pull it or, them. (before AADs) B: Because the container appears to rip or, tear open when seen from above when it's pulled. C: Because you have to rip the cord out of the housing to activate it. Those are my guesses, I don't know if they are right. They are all true. Things that make ya go "humm".. I got too much time on my hands. Have fun with it. I wonder if anyone knows the real answer, if they do, they might be too old to jump ha ha.
  4. Cool! I thought we were the only DZ that did water jumps on an annual basis. We break out some really scary old round canopies for this event every year and have a blast. When does Lost Praire do water jumps, during the boogie in July? We have a few folks that look forward to doing water jumps every year, send me more info and I will let them know the details of the LP water jumps.
  5. I don't have pictures of past events but I'm sure there are some on the club's website. www.skydivenm.net
  6. Sorry, I should have mentioned that. It's 9 & 10 Sept 06, we will have a couple folks at the lake Thursday night and will start jumping Friday as soon as we get enough to fill a 182 load(4). Swooping the lake IS allowed but bear in mind that it is at 4,200' MSL so it's gonna be zippy if you're used to jumping near sea level. Something else that's pretty cool, you can see the White Sands missle range from exit altitude. The FIRST commercial space port in the world is being built there and Carlsbad Caverens are reasonably close. A cool excuse for a road trip...
  7. Hey folks; I hope this is OK to post since it is sort of advertizing. It is a rather unique event and if you have never jumped a round canopy or, done an intentional water landing here's your chance. It is advertized in the calender section of this website. This is actually the 18th year Skydive New Mexico has been hosting a water boogie, I made a mistake when I first posted it. Only about 20 folks have signed up for it so far, we usually get 50-60 using two 182s. The attachment is quite detailed but, reply to me if you want to keep up to date with the planning and I will add you to the email list or, reply to you here. We do this every year but, it is cool to jump a round canopy and land it in the water and the chance doesn't happen that often.

Hey how's it going. I saw your post on DZ.com and will try to CQ you via IRLP. I'm KD7ZNE in Albuquerque New Mexico the node # here is 3797. It has been down for the past couple of days but, I'll give ya a shout as soon as it's back up.Quote
  9. I took the Altimiter poll about jumping without one or an audible. I answered YES, but the only reason I jumped without one, was on a round canopy "landing" in a lake. Every year Skydive New Mexico holds a water boogie the weekend after Labor day at lake Conhas NM. I once had an altimeter malfunction on the ride up, but I had an audible as a backup. Your own eyes and judgement are your "last resort" altimeter, I think it's dumb to jump without (at least) one unless you hop&pop or plan the dive very carefully.
