  1. there's no feeling of height, looking out of the plane, in free fall or under canopy. Things just look small.
President of my club, couldn't stand on a foot stool without becoming dizzy, jumping didn't phase him.
There's no feeling of falling in free fall. Its more like laying in water, but noisy from wind.
guy that us to be head of the USPA lost a bunch of weight just like you and for the same reason. He told me more than once, skydiving probably saved his life. Maybe someday you'll have his job.

U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler.

  3. Get hold of John Sherman, he's on here. He had some movies from Hugh's aircraft (i think). That had slow mo stuff of openings.
Might also check Face book, Old school skydiving.

  5. Rent.
Instead of spending money on gear, make more jumps. Until you're making 2-3 jumps a weekend, and you decide if you are staying in the sport.
Can you pack? Spend your money learning that.
Can you do a decent PLF?
Look at what other people your level are jumping. See how it lands, flies, opens.
Read the thread in incidents about the girl in Kansas.

If it hasn't already been added - Escalades, especially the black ones. Encountered one on the way home, going fast in the left lane, using the right lane to go around slower ones and riding other people's asses.

When he got stuck in traffic and I caught up to him, I knew there was no way I was going to get by him, until the highway opened from 2 to 3 lanes. He can block one lane with traffic, but he can't block two. So when he predictably took to the left lane when it opened up, I found a gap in the right and I was gone, and he's stuck behind other vehicles. Dumbass.

hmmm? what kind of car do you drive?

  7. the most aggressive sober drivers i've ever seen (and i'm old and drove truck and cab) are soccer mom's in mini vans. They were doing so much damage to a dirt road in the national forest where i volunteered, taking there kids to the summer camp. The FS was trying to figure out how to ban them.

  8. the real question/answer is will you mind spending the rest of your lift in a wheelchair or worse to make one skydive?
jumping is fun, doing it with the possibility of a life changeing injury probably will make it not so

  9. Learn why you are packing. This may sound simple, but I've asked people for 40 years why they do that and most of the time they answer, cause that's the way they were taught. When you learn the why, the how will be easy.
Pack with you eyes closed. 39 years ago I made the statement I could pack in the dark. People took the bet and I got locked in a bathroom with no light and a canopy that had been cut loose from the harness and tangled. I packed it, came out wearing the rig and was the only person at the US nats that was sure it would be fine. Made some beer money too.

  10. There is a film (no vid in those days) from the 70's of a guy flying up to the cameraman, waving with webbed gloved hands, turning around and just hammering the star, blowing it up. He left the DZ, came back a couple hours later with a T-shirt with a big funnel on the front.

  11. Geez people its just driving. I figure if someone gets close behind me I just move over. Maybe they have to pee, diarrhea, late for a job they can't afford to loss.
Chill, there are no winners in this game.

  13. Have you learned your canopy yet? Have you opened at 5,or6 K and played with the canopy? Do you know what it fells like just before it stalls? How it recovers from the stall? Have you put it in a 360 degree turn and seen how much altitude it loses? What about 2 or 3 turns? Until you have taken your canopy to its limits at altitude don't mess with it near the ground.
When you turn on final can you tell where you will land or are you just guessing? Pick a spot and in normal flight see where you end up. Over or under, then adjust your final start altitude or distance from your chosen landing point.

***How strong is it? Can you run on it? Back in the day that was the measure of if you can jump or not. Can you jump off a chair? Top of a car? Do you mind losing your leg?

I can run and jump, and have absolutely no intention to lose the leg.

I had a friend I skied with that broke his leg. It healed. He broke it again. It healed. He broke it again and they had cut it off below the knee. He still skis, but on a peg leg.

  16. That's a pure breed curb setter/seat warmer mix. It'll sit on the curb and wait for you to come home and you'll never get in the car with a cold seat if you take it along.
