  1. "Why would you exit with a bird that's not known to fly?" It was the 70's. U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr 316
  2. Years ago we heard about someone going out with chickens, so what the heck, we'll try it. First chicken was held by its feet. Lot of feathers flying, winds sort of flapping. Let go of chicken, never seen again. Second chicken. Held it around the body. Tried to tear the jumper a new one. Pecking, clawing. Screw it. Never saw it again. Third chicken. Threw the dam thing out the plane and took of after it. It dove like a peregrine falcon. We chased that dam thing to pull time. Figured it bounced. People on the ground saw it flair out at about 500 feet, swoop into a tree. Sat up there all day crowing at us. Don't know whatever happened to it, but it wasn't coming out of that tree. They also crap all over you in the plane. U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr 316
  3. I don't remember if it was a Sentinal or not. But a guy I jumped with was given the ultimatum by the wife, no AAD no jumpin. So he got one. You had to turn them on, on the ground and off before you got to 1000 ft or they fired. First jump on the thing I see him in a ball under 2K and open under a grand. Second jump same thing. "So what the hell where you doing we ask him?" "Turning off the AAD so it didn't fire, before I pulled my main." \ We took the firing cartridge out of it. So his wife couldn't tell it didn't work and he could jump it and not go in. We had fun in those days!!!! 6. Near Dickenson on Hwy 85 a little bit north of I94 is a beautiful old Russian church. Across the street is the story of the people that built it. They were talked into coming to ND for the good cheap crop land. After one or two winters in ND they went back "TO SIBERIA". 7. They should call it "Bottom gear" The US people will never introduce a VW as being "able to get from Berlin to Warsaw on one tank of gas" At least they should have had Buzz drive a Buick Century instead of a rice grinder. 8. The Rainbow plane and the Z hills one had matching paint jobs before the crash. I think the tip tank one did too. Don't say Wanakee was near Madison. Madison was near Waunakee. Or as the sign said "the only Waunakee in the world" U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr 316
  9. Hey I am frugal I knew a guy named George McCormick that would snatch his kicker plate as it went by. How's that for frugal. U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr 316
  10. Before (with the usual suspects) and after the crash pics. We took it to a place down the road that painted school buses. They did it for free from what I remember just cause it was something different to paint. From what I heard it has been completely restored and lives in florida. 11. Dragging up this old thread. Finally was taught how to put pics on here. Look at 1 o'clock in second pic and you can see the pilot. U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr 316

  14. If its the one I'm thinking of the pilot (not the owner of the plane) ran out of gas directly over the airport on jump run. We got out, he panicked, tried to land the plane on grass, flipped it. I have pictures if you're interested. It was a Cessna 196 U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr 316

  17. Have you tried a TENS unit? Same idea as acupuncture, but portable. Usually covered by insurance. Take a little experimenting to get them in the right place. 19. That we'll definitely do and test on the ground first. First, of course, we'll ground control. There will be a long way of training to go till we're able to fly together, close to each other. Sorry, did I get it right that you used this system for visually impaired jumpers? How did you managed "pull both breaks" for landing or "let both breaks up" commands with horns? In paragliding many students tend to pull breaks too much and this can cause a wing stall, so very often we have an instructor yelling "hands up!!!" d Like I said, Long ago. Round canopies. No brakes, no flare, of course no forward speed either. And yes visually impaired jumpers with the bull horns. Now days with the quality of radios available at low prices, you don't need the bull horns. If you google. THere is a guy that sails a boat and rides a bike with the aid of a laptop in a back pack and helmet mounted cameras. People on the net watch from whereever and tell him what to do. Amazing how people can co-operate when they really want to. Of the three visually impaired people I worked with, they all had different degrees of sight. The one that had the most visual accuaty (she could she shadows, and quite a bit of light and dark) had the hardest time with landing. Near the gound she could see the shadows moving and it freaked her a little. So make sure you understand how much your people can precieve. 20. Redundancy. 2,3,4 radios. Work out a system, where if the pilot doesn't hear a command after "x" seconds they turn on a different radio. Same thing with the radio person. Do you fly near them or ground control. If you fly with them, how about a plain old bull horn. Long ago and far away before radios we used a couple bull horns with different sounds. High pitch for left, low for right. Tearing around on a motorcycle with a couple of bull horns, trying to stay as close as possible to the jumper. What a bunch of idiots we were. 23. Well there was sort of one in the Wisconsin Dells. The guys that jumped at the Tommy Bartlett water show decided to see if they could get thrown out of every bar in town one summer. A real feat, if you know how many bars are in any town in Wisconsin. The guy that owned the Function Junction bar, couldn't be convince to throw them out so one night they repainted the sign. I can't remember if that got them kicked out or not. U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr 316
  24. I just go to my US representative. They actually have a form for complaints. He fixed the problem in a couple weeks. I keep the letters about it, so I can show them they are morons the next time. 25. What level of skiers, budget and how are you getting there? Where are you coming from? You can stay in Glenwood Springs, Co fairly cheap and get to Vail, Aspen in an hour. Local mom and pop ther called Sunlight. You can stay in downtown Salt Lake and get to about ten areas and a DZ in an hour. You can stay in Driggs, ID and get to Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole and the down town Jackson area in an hour. Stay in Fisco, Co and Breckenridge, Keystone, A Basin, Copper Mountain, the Vail bowls, and the ski area in Tennesee past ( can't remember the name right now) are all there. Along with huge lines.
