  1. I jumped today, no problems with the nose!!! Tony
  2. Yes, we are fun bunch! I wasn't there this past weekend, but will be there this coming weekend. I saved up money to get my training, and did it all in a few weeks. But do what you need to do. Some folks take out loans, max out credit cards, sell stuff, what ever it takes to get into it. (I don't reccomend going into debt) You could start this year, but as Dave said, if you go past 30 days without jumping, you would need retraining. But by all means, come on out with beer and everyone would be more than happy to talk to you about it Tony
  3. Anyone jump with a broken nose? How long should I wait till I jump? I didn't know if going up to altitude would affect it or not. And no, breaking my nose had nothing to do skydiving. Tony
  4. Ours is also going to be April 2nd. Just got slammed with yet another snow storm over the weekend, got over a foot of snow. I now have almost three feet of snow in my yard. I am so sick of snow. I can't wait to jump again. Next winter I am definatly going to florida sometime during the winter Only eight more days till spring, right? Tony
  5. I have a Rascal 9 225 in a jav j3 manufactured in 1994. I wrote to sunpath to see if a 170 would fit because I saw on their web page that 170 is the max for a j3. Sunpath wrote back that a 170 is indeed the max size for a j3, and that the 225 is probably warping the stiffners and stretching the material. The 225 is tight, but does fit in. So I would think that you could "fit" a 230 in a j3, but according to sunpath, this is not good for the container. Tony
  6. I loved that place when I was there. Skydive Temple is where I learned to skydive. The people there were always friendly, a real family atmosphere. If i'm ever back in that area I will definately stop in and make a few jumps. Howdy to everyone there! Tony, aka "fence"
  7. no big deal, the day he posted it, I sent him an email asking about the canopy, he replied a day later, then the day after that I sent him one back saying I was interested, he replied that it had been sold. There was never any mention of a patch to me either, just that it was "like new". I personaly would have been very upset if someone told me that a canopy was like new, and it had a patch on it that they never mentioned. Just for your own info, I emailed Brian Germain about the new line set for the lotus, the line set gives you the upgrade, and the cost of the line set is $250. On the bright side, the Lotus is a great canopy, and you will love it. If you have any questions about the canopy, I'm sure Brian would be more than happy to answer them. He's a great guy, and knows more about parachutes and flying them than any of us could ever hope to learn (if you get the chance, I highly reccomend his seminar). Tony
  8. Did you happen to purchase this canopy form the classifieds here on dropzone.com? Just wondering if this is the same lotus I was trying to get, the time frame sounds right. Tony
  9. I lived in Colorado a couple years back, and jumped at Mile Hi a few times. I didn't learn there, but started jumping there as a fairly new jumper. Since I didn't know anyone there, I wound up doing alot of solos. Not once did an experienced jumper offer to jump with me. The few times I jumped with others was with jumpers fresh off student status that I spoke with. After a few times there, I decided I didn't much care for it. I wasn't having fun. I didn't jump for 8 months. Then I found out about Brush. Night and day. I lived in Westminster, so Mile HI was 45 min away, and Brush was over 90. I didn't mind the extra drive. I moved back to the Northeast two and half years ago, so don't know what those two DZs are like now, but from the sounds of this thread, not much has changed, I'd say go to Brush. Oh yeah, to keep on topic, we pay $20, $18 if you buy a block of 100. Tony
  10. I could have written this. I just jumped again ater a two and half year break. I was scared shitless on the plane ride up, as soon as I was out the door, all was right in my world. Did one more jump that day, and seven more the following weekend. Tony
  11. Just did my 100th this past Sunday. We did a seven way sit. Well, everone else was doing a sit, I was the lower part of a rodeo, it was GREAT
  12. Mine covers it, life and health. I checked on this before getting back into the sport, I work for the DOD. The last company I worked for, skydiving was an exclusion. Tony
  13. Yeah, I'd say that was a bad load to be on with a lightly loaded canopy. Guess I'm a real skydiver now. Tony
  14. You have no idea how great she is. She likes coming out to the dz with me (as do the kids), she has never told me not to jump, and tells me she is alright with it because it makes me happy. When I first started she was a little apprehensive. but after spending a couple days at the dz and seeing that people aren't bouncing every other load, she was alright with it. I would love for her to at least try a tandem, but she won't, and I don't push it. She is the best non-jumping spouse a jumper could hope for. Tony
  15. It has been two and a half years since my last jump. Went to safety day two weeks ago, and was all set to jump last weekend, but mother nature had other plans. Spent the week thinking of nothing but jumping. Went to the dz yesterday, but once again, mother nature wouldn't cooperate. Woke up this morning to clouded over skies. Waited an hour or so, it looked like it was starting to clear (the forcast was for partly sunny in the morning, clouding up by afternoon. Headed to the dropzone anyway. thirty minutes later, I'm on the plane!!! Boy was I nervous, that feeling everyone gets after a layoff, only this was a two and a half year layoff. Because of this layoff, I had to jump with an instructor (thanks Preston), he could tell I was nervous (he later told me he was a little worried because I was so nervous, but that I relaxed as soon as I was out the door- that always happens). Anyway, we left the plane, I actually did a "woohoo" as I left, did all the stuff I was supposed to, basically an AFF level 4, pulled at 5500, and landed fairly close to the peas. I have lost 35 pounds since I last jumped, and the instructor actually told me I need to arch more, that I fall slow!!! I have never been told that!! I was always told I fall too fast!! My belly always took care of the arch for me, now that it is gone, I need to do it myself. What a feeling, I feel like I am home again. During the course of the last two and a half years, I was going to sell my gear a couple times, it was my wife that stopped me, she new I would jump again. As usual, she was right. I can't believe this sport. I can't believe I do this, I can't believe I didn't do it for so long. The air is where I belong. You people are the only ones that understand this, family and friends don't understand why you would do it more than once, if you do it at all. Anyway, since it is Easter, I had to go to my brothers house for dinner (he lives ten minutes from the dz), so after my first jump, I went to his house for a couple hours, then back to the dz and made another jump!! One more thing to add to this already long post, I want to thank everyone at Skydive New England, you guys are the best, you have all made me, my wife and kids feel very welcome. Oh yeah, and the new otter rocks!!! thanks all, Tony
